I've seen 100's of videos on sim rigs and what's great about this is you show the process as you're going along, everyone always shows the finished product and say what they've done but you actually show the steps. And yes creativity will take you a long way and possibly save you some money as well. I did so many diy updates to my rig that enhances the immersion and saved me money at the end of it all.
With monitors on them, it is extremely difficult, and I would advise pre-measuring the height that which you need to to have them sitting. And then adjust your wheelbase height accordingly :-) that would be the best approach.
