The lady from Boston was so refreshing and concise with her analysis. That was priceless footage from her and represents how this venue for test riding is so useful yet far too rare. How to get test ride opportunities like this arranged all over the country is a super important key.

What a great show! The opening parade was awesome. And Tom was riding my Spike, complete with sunshade--I love that thing! It lives way in the back of my car, just in case. :) Triot Sister, you got that right--first ride, I raced around the block giggling like a kid!

The full spectrum diversification of the TRIOT line is refreshing. They are the kind of forward thinking manufacturer that will incorporate computer design and manufacturing to reduce overall weight without reducing strength. TRIOT is wise in forgoing suspension in the rear for their cargo oriented trikes. The late James Dobson clearly stated that if he had it to do all over again, he would have eliminated suspension because his particular trike was breaking down at that feature.

Saw a few quads in the background of interviews. The only one covered in an interview is near the end and the model isn’t in production. The gal from Boston was priceless. Also nice of you adjust the post for Jack Benny at the end.

Fabulous presentation of so many of the great products and innovations in the industry/sport. A lot of information input and educational. Have to do a lot more research and homework before finalizing my new trike order . A little more info on pricing would have been helpful but I guess that can be found on each company’s website. Fortunately for the consumer there are so many great products but unfortunately there are so few dealers that can inventory a vast array of different products due to their high cost ...thus limiting one’s ability to test ride and sample. Once again...thanks for a super production giving us so much information and teaching us what questions to ask when we shop and get fitted. Your entire crew that participated did a great job! Mark.

Thanks, Mark! I tend to ask about pricing for new products but in reality the manufacturers may not have made a decision on this yet. Also, these videos will be playing on RU-vid for a long time so the quoted pricing will soon be outdated anyway 🙂

Gary Solomon ...understood on the pricing aspect. I am getting a new 559....ordering soon so I can have it when I return from Florida but now with the new EA availability I guess I have to wait it out. They are integrating the Bosch but the Catrike rep was quoting $2500 for the option...seems a bit steep. I know Bafang provides EA in the $1000 range and wonder about the quality of one over the other and the Falco rep showed his demo of new EA on a Catrike 559 and it looked awesome but no,pricing was mentioned. I guess my dealer and I have to do,our homework and make an informed decision. I don’t mind spending the money...but I want the best, most reliable system with the lightest weight and longest range .I am excited about getting a folding trike and figure that at my age(67) I am best served by spending the extra money for EA so I can ride it into the sunset! haha. Thanks for all of the data...now to do my homework...

Lag time is expected and will naturally occur, but computer designed AND manufactured bikes and trikes are strongly in the offing. The most forward thinking and innovative trike manufacturers will be the first to take full advantage of this emerging technology. Oh how I wish for Greenspeed to remake itself from the ground up in this way. The memory of Ian Sims deserves no less than this.

Once seniors and others get the chance to go out on an extensive test ride, the obstacle of price will soon melt away. Maybe not on the first day, but it will after they have time to sleep on it and go on repeat test rides.

Hi Gary, excellent review, thanks! As usual passion and competence together are the best mix! The Tilting Trike designed at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee is quite interesting although it looks a little bit 'over engineered'. It is clearly a first attempt, hopefully they should be able to simplify and streamline the next versions.

Another excellent report of Cycle-Con from the Laidback Bike Report Team. Again to have and see all the different Manufacturers and Suppliers under one roof. A big jump forward in E-Assist. Did the Quadcopter survive the crash with the roof.

Ohh BOY! SO many of these machines I now want to try out! But on the whole I am glad that I can't, as I would want to get way too many of them, for which I have neither the money, the space, or the time to ride all of them :-(. Leading me to my next thought: Is Peter Stull the 'Jay Leno' of the Recumbent world, I wonder? And if so, does that make Doug Davis the Velomobile equivalent? (Yes, we do get 'Jay Leno's garage' in the UK. And WHAT a garage!). Great report Gary, and thanks to all who helped put it together.

@@GarySolomon Yah , kinda -- I am not a velo purist where you need to have it all about carving through the air like a samurai's blade but rather just units to be able to shelter from the elements like the PEBL or ELF. Cheers

You can find many reviews at Bentrider Online. A trip to a good local trike shop is even a better idea as you can try many trikes out to see what you like.

Can we have more of a "bike Porn" view when presenting the bikes? So close look up, Zooming in and out, panning and moving around the bike when talking about the bike,(better if it matches the bike part being talked about) also good if there are several models being panned out. I just think a static camera on Gary interviewing is kinda boring

*The comments from FALCO completely discredit the company*: their claiming reports of a range of 100 miles etc from their electric assist bicycles are simply ludicrous, totally misleading and very deceptive. They insult the potential buyer's intelligence. After all, the range of e-assist bikes and trikes depends on how much the rider pedals - this range can be reported by anyone to be anything for a specific battery!!!! See e-bikes.ca for an intelligent explanation of this consideration. I would never purchase a FALCO product due to their deceptive nonsense.

@@marybachmann The constructive optimistic perspective you are offering here is an invaluable and wise one. I firmly believe that an outreach program within the senior communities in Florida and elsewhere will pay off immensely once they get a real opportunity to get out there and test ride a few models. They are living out the last parts of their lives and they need to proactively get out there moving around instead of sitting at home all day and night as circumstance captives within their own homes. They want to be introduced to this wonderful option and $3,000 is absolutely NOTHING in the whole scheme of things. For seniors who pass away, a prudent buy back program would be perfect and other seniors can get in the system to buy a good used trike for a fair price. These trikes are sophisticated pieces of machinery and have commensurate costs. That SHOULD NOT BE AN OBSTACLE. Most of them can darn well afford them. Many can't drive very safely any more, but they have a nice car sitting in the garage anyway. These negative naysayers often talk in circles.

@@StellarFella : Well for one thing these trikes are not as sophisticated as your saying . Frames are production cut and the jigged up and welded . The engineering is simple enough . The cost of the steel is fairly cheap . Everything else is all shelf Items that comes from China . If a buyer wanted an Aluminum frame out of aircraft tubing then just add difference of that cost . Both are welded with a tig welder and both frames are welded under inert gas . So you cant set there to tell me that these trike cost more than a grand to make . Even with the cheapest shelf items the cost would be under 500 to make . So now you next one is crap also well then are living there last lives and they can afford it . LOL what a joke . No most cant afford it and certainly not a disabled low ranking vet or an old person only living on his or hers SS check . Come on now . These people are being taken advarntage every dam day . I am a disabled Vet I know the VA dont really provide these to their Vets . The VA will up us in a order with the AMBETS to get needed bikes and trike . That is an long wait and that dont mean you will get one . You might get a trike maybe . I been waiting for over a year and I do call to check up to see where I am at .in the line . The thing is when or if we do get one we wont own it it is on lone . I do agree that most elderly might want to ride one of these like my self but at 3 grand that is out of reach for most of us . Just the privileged people can own them . What an racket .

@@marybachmann Yes I have road one at the VA and yes they are fun and they do provide exercise for us disabled vets when we can get one . The VA dont provide bikes or trikes to us vet per to say . The VA will put out an order for one to AMBETS that provide these to the disable . That still dont mean you will get one . I been one a waiting list for over a year for one here in St Louis Mo . The last I had talked to them and they said that their person that fit these trikes to the rider is sick and that was the last I heard from them . I even went out to buy an used one for what I can afford at the time and still no luck . My now wife has one that I found for her . It is a Catrike and it is Aluminum frame . I did ride that once before I got it to fit her not me . The she had to help me to set in it . Yes I would love to own one but 3 grand that is a year of food for us . The most older people that may use one of these are people that needs them for transportation and then the trikes need to be assisted peddling .
