This was supposed to be a _Chinese_ invasion but we can't offend the overlords so they made them North Korean... North Korea would have to spend its entire budget to get to the United States and take over a Burger King in Seattle...
Hey, let me just stand out in the open of this window at lock eyes with this enemy officer. Surely there won't be any guards that can pick me off, right? Plot armor level 99 here.
Had many people starving under Stalin's rule, gulags under Stalin's rule and guess what, etc. under STALIN's rule. Its historical. We don't judge the US for having slaves in the past.
@Big Daddy From what I understand it was supposed to be the Chinese but the script/premise was changed so as not to offend the Chinese. If a media piece offends Xi or the Chinese Party they count a strike against Hollywood (or the production office) and with too many, they just ban all media from that source. They've done it before. So Hollywood in general is very careful not to offend the Chinese Censors/Government.
Half the comments on here don't understand that the North Koreans were actually supposed to be the Chinese. That's how it was when they filmed all of it, but then the producers changed it in post-production because China would've banned it and the studio would have lost a ton of money. My advice to you if you decide to watch this film is to imagine the invading force as the People's Liberation Army, seeing as how that's who they were supposed to be and that's why all their uniforms and weapons resemble theirs. I got nothing against the Chinese people, but there's no way in hell North Korea could ever launch an invasion against the US, China at least has a better chance of doing so. Also note how the characters in this almost never refer to the occupying force as North Korean, they edited a lot of dialogue.
@saxon priestIn that movie the Cubans and the Soviet Eastern bloc did a joint invasion, that's why there is a Cuban general in it lol, did you watch the whole movie
I like to imagine that the PLA donated a shit ton of surplus spare uniforms, weapons, gear, etc. to the KPA since in the movie, Jed did say that North Korea had to have have help. China probably provided a ton of logistical help in terms of assets.
Yo...I just came across this clip today. I'M the guy whose voice you hear in the background. If you pause this clip at 2:13, it's me. So the people who pitched the idea that the Chinese should be the villains in the movie totally forgot that China never airs anything in their country that makes them the villain. It wasn't until the movie was shot and edited that they decided to re-edit and splice it so the new villains could be North Koreans. So much of the original movie was cut. The final product is crap. You know what's funny? That voice you hear...is not entirely me. I was asked to re-record my lines in a studio but had to decline because I was working on another project. You know what these people did? They hired a guy to mimic the sound of my voice, and digitally blended both sound tracks together. The joys of moviemaking.
Definitely. Then you aren't thinking the whole time "dafuq? How does a nation with barely any industry, a starving military, failing in almost every way manage to take on and succeed in invading a major superpower like the US?"
It was filmed with the chinese as the invaders. BUT the studios shelved the movie for a few years. WHY? The Chinese movie market in the past several years has become a greater money-maker than the American Market. So, the CGI work was finished altering all mentions of Chinese uniforms, flags, language, ect and changed to be N. Korean.
When they made the movie it was chinese. Bigwigs hollywood afraid of wronging chinese so they changed it to NK which is why it took two years to complete. Yeah they were all chinese invasion cause they made a scene in Pontiac, not NK invasion.
yeah well they shouldn't have done that regardless because its pretty obvious most chinese aren't going to pay to see this movie regardless of who is invading the US
It's certainly happened before, Hollywood wants to fill that 30 something foreign movies per year limit in China, the only way that happens is if it can pass the Chinese censorship committee and be considered positive enough to the Chinese government, then they might consider having it play in Chinese theaters
@@Church449 But didn't they supposedly undergo a crash course in training by Hemsworths character by this point? He's an Iraq war veteran and he didn't teach them rifle basics? lol
The "your country is corrupt" part is true.. the communist part is bs of course. Hello everybody, did you like my nuanced view 😛 welcome to my really using your mind to think about life session
Spetnaz are one of the most dangerous elite force in the world, the thing is they only represent like 1% of the entire russian military force, the other 99% judging for what we have seen is pure shit.
VC knew how to defeat a large invading force. They picked their battles fought battles they knew they could win. Collect equipment and used it against their appointments. They knew how to "Play in They're Own Back Yard"
“Specialises in counter-insurgency”….Yet he sits there and allows the explosion to happen and did nothing to stop it or even notice people acting suspicious during the speech…..
This movie was entertaining to a degree. But car bombs and small scale ambushes from rooftops over and over in the same city center area would be more of an annoyance to the enemy than an effective strategy. But it would seem to be a better way to go out than being marched off to a re-education camp (or worse.)
That’s how the smaller armies win, you aren’t going to straight up beat them so you use small and tactical attacks to make it hell enough for the invading army to give up
anyone tried that game World in Conflict? it was pretty good, its about how in the 1980's the soviet union does a surprise attack on america and europe and try to take over.
It'd still be rather hard for any nation at all to launch an all out conventional attack and invasion on a country as large, diverse and densely populated as the US. Maybe they could take a few cities but most assuredly they couldn't subdue the entire nation. The same applies to the older and in my opinion better original 1984 film. Even the Soviets couldn't have done it and in the original they end up getting pushed back anyhow
Japanese equipment and technology is not as good as ours, and Japanese physical defects make them ineffective soldiers" American Intelligence summaries before Pearl Harbour. Never underestimate your enemies.
Am I the only one who noticed the kid who's using the rifle scope on his ak has the cover down at the back, so he literally can't see through the scope
"We are not your enemies" Like the Martians in "Mars Attacks" running around with recorded messages "Don't run! We are your friends!" as they zapped people right & left.
I had heard this remake was really stupid. I am glad to see that for once, people aren't bullshitting me. The original was almost as silly, too. Cubans and Nicarauguans taking over half the country is almost as unbelievable as North Koreans taking over all of it. And yeah, I know it''s supposed to be China, but that's another reason this is bullshit: The studio got cold feet at the last second and replaced a slightly unbelievable enemy with a completely unbelievable one. They were scared of the Chinese reaction? The goddamn Chinese would have LOVED to see themselves fucking up the U.S. The only reason anybody likes this shit at all is because they imagine themselves fighting as heroic and invincible guerillas against (insert favored enemy, domestic or foreign, here) and it thrills them.
I believe the original one had Soviets invading along with Cubans and Nicaraguans. The Soviet Union at the time had a large empire with a large population and army.
I find it ironic that this type of video is coming up on my feed now,I'm not reading into anything ,but I do find it strange ,like someone is trying to tell me something
Yang is more of a capitalist and for the average American than 90 percent of either the Dems or the Repubs, that’s why the DNC was never going to let him get out of the primary
This actually would have made sense if Korea had become the Vietnam of this cinematic universe's timeline and the Communist revolution had won the civil war. Then a strong Soviet-Korean alliance would make sense after the Sino-Soviet split and the DPRK would be a combined force of the militaristic size of North Korea and the economic and technological prowess of South Korea.
Still wouldn't have made much sense. Even if it was a unified Korea, there would have been little support by China given normalization of relations with the US. Plus, if they won the Korean War, there wouldn't have been the technological prowess and economic might of the South. Remember, the original enemy was China, but they changed it to North Korea. They should have just made the movie about an alternate universe where the Soviet Union didn't collapse.
Many of you pointed out that the producers of this movie changed the Chinese to North Koreans so that they don't lose the Chinese market. Well actually this movie was considered really dumb in China too and didn't do well in box office at all, even in the 2012 standard.
I still support the idea of China invading America because they have more than enough military power to do so and that America still owes them a great debt, kinda hard to take the North Koreans seriously since their military still sucks.
Its not just a 1:1 comparison of an army. Sure, the Chinse may have the equipment and manpower, but they have in no way, shape, or form the logistical capabilities of moving that much manpower to the United States, let alone support them once they arrive. Same reason a hypothetical war between the US and Russia would have to be nuclear because invasion by either side is a logistical and casualty intensive nightmare.
Kitten of War knows what they're talking about - China's military is large, but in NO WAY can they move that military to the United States; if they even tried, naval SAM's in the Pacific and US military aircraft would literally light the sky up, and the Seawolf, Virginia, and Los Angeles-class submarines would send the PLAN naval groups to the bottom of the ocean.
No one is going to be able to pull off a legit conventional invasion of the US anytime soon because no other major power shares a land border with the United States so that means having to supply and support a army across thousands of miles of ocean and also having to go up against the most powerful navy that is actually larger than all the others combined
It's not really logistically feasible for any nation at all to attempt to invade the US while using conventional weapons. Our military is already next to none and our terrain is too large and diverse, there's too many armed civillians and militias, the military is fucking everywhere and the Chinese are severely technologically inferior and a large force doesn't mean dick when you're technologically inferior, especially nowadays. The Chinese just completed an aircraft carrier that runs on diesel for fucks sake. In an age where all of our active carriers are nuclear powered. The Soviets couldn't do it either. Even in their military peak back in the day. It's just not a good idea. They'd have to use selective nuclear strikes on us but after that they and everyone else would be royally fucked once we started launching what we have, us included.
Russia did manage to outsmart you guys in Syria though. Plus the whole Europe still shits their pants at night when hear about Russian military drills.
