If aliens were smart enough to travel the crazy distances between stars and they intended to destroy us, we realistically wouldn't stand a chance against them. They would be masters of technologies that we can't even fully imagine, it would be like trying to explain how nuclear bombs work to a chimpanzee.

Major spoilers ahead so read at your own risk but: The aliens weren’t trying to destroy humanity, they were trying to majorly weaken them. The aliens had implanted their consciences into humans, and are trying to settle on earth. And for the fifth wave to work they need to indoctrinate a lot of people, and the easiest type of people to indoctrinate are children.

That tech could be as inaccessible as nukes to chimps, or as accessible as nukes to tribal people. In the second case, if they didn’t wipe us out first, we would eventually learn, just like many tribal peoples have learned nuclear technology by now.

Whatever about the nightmare scenarios depicted in disaster movies,like tsunamies or all electrics and motors stopping etc,the one thing that gets me everytime,is an aeroplane dropping uncontrollably from the sky.The 2009 Nic Cage movie "Knowing" did this exceptionally well.

@@helterskelter1333 They don't need to be benevolent, they may just be "alien" and seek to study us and attempt communication the same way scientists try to communicate with apes and monkeys. We could just be an exotic species that some interstellar zoologists are studying. They might not attack us because they simply may not consider us as an actual threat. Sure we may be a little dangerous to aliens the same way ants or hornets can be towards us, but not dangerous enough to where we need to be dealt with militarily.

@@helterskelter1333 why woudnt they be? at the very least the reasons why they would be malicious dont make sense resources? whatever is on earth can be found in plenty of other places without having to go through a bunch of apes with nuclear weapons for slaves? what use does a civillization that advanced have for slave labor? living space? same as the first point, plenty of liveable planets around without nuclear apes food? humans make for a very poor food resource, slow breeding and maturing rates and all, and even then, lets say they really like the taste and so it becomes delicacy to them, again a civillization that advanced can literally just PRINT human flesh without needing to kill any humans for it, even we ourselves are already getting close to being able to do this being plain evill for shits and giggles is really the only reason one can feasibly say would be a reason, and even then a alien race THAT agressive and vile would destroy itself before ever reaching us

One EMP blast won't take out things permanently, batteries are not affected unless they were connected and used to power something at the time as their energy is stored a chemical when not in use. Same for generators or cars that are not running at the time, even the ones that are would only need change of spark plugs and battery to get going again. Planes won't immediately stall and fall out of the sky, they'll keep gliding for minutes more and even with no electronics or power the plane still has some back up controls that allows it to be steered via hydraulics for the pilots to find best place to crash land.

It actually wasn't that bad a movie. Problem was, kids wanted to see The Hunger Games rehashed over and over and so films like this based on popular YA books like this never really stod a chance. It was the same with Mortal Engines a few years later, though that was watered down to be sometimes unrecognisable, and Golden Compass-they were too different.
