Great refresher on things that us GMs could likely do more often - I certainly need to de-brief with my players after games more often. Thanks!

Just to add. Striking the balance and drawing out the shy person. For the quiet person. But there's also the overrun person. Sometimes you have bigger and vocal people at the table and sometimes you have people who flat-out want to monopolize the table. They have good ideas. They are excited to play. funny things pop into their heads. And sometimes you just have a bully at the table. There are ways to deal with that that aren't ugly and that encouraged Pitbull playing and just being professional and kind and in control are some of your best tools. Don't forget to have fun with the guy trying to monopolize your game. But you can bring that Play Again by saying hold on we need to go interns and I need to hear what other people have to contribute. But I'm trying out the shy person, sometimes asking specifically about a skill that you know that is on their character sheet or an attribute that is a strength or an asset to the group somehow. Asking them to consider those those options and make a roll or perhaps choose a course of action that can help them engage and participate in the role-playing process they might completely watch their role and feel horrible about it. And if that happens then the keeper should absolutely have all kinds of fun with it and remind the player that failures are part of role-playing to and that failures can be scary that can be disappointing but they should also be fun because we're here to have fun. Lol this could turn into an article easily

Yes, I think one of the really worrying places a "red flag" can be raised is if the GM is that person "who flat-out want to monopolize the table", or as I know that personality type to be called the "attention whore". The GM position is a strong magnet for them, thus they often become GMs themselves. And it thus rarely get addressed and even more rarely solved. You (when you GM) can feel when you take over a player who has become used to playing under an attention whore GM. Because that player has become to be as involved in the story, as a spectator is involved in the story told in a theatre! I call that kind of player "zombies".

Nice sensitive touch and some sound advice concerning an often difficult topic in the RPG hobby. Overdoing can be as bad as under-doing. ; )

It’s not only the GM’s responsibility. Yes, the GM has great power, and with that comes great responsibility. But I know I can be a spotlight-hog and I try not to be! I see you covered that at the end, but I tend to put my comments in with a couple of minutes to run… another personal flaw…

Not sure if you can generalize what's a red flag and what not, like I know enough players that'd hate it if they are put into the spotlight as often as everyone else so I think I can say that you shouldn't force the spotlight on everyone equally. Because if you do those players might react evasive and it seems they sabotage the game when it's actually the GM sabotaging the game by putting responsibility on a player who really doesn't want it. And I have seen many games stalling due to the GM expecting more than one player to respond. No matter if you're a player or GM you should try to be mindful of your fellow players and accept that each of them is an individual with their own character, wishes and needs. Don't make the mistake to treat everyone the same.
