We all know if he got on stage at this event, he would broke down and cry. Chili peppers was the best thing ever happen in his life. He was the fan of RHCP, became one of the member and became one of the most influential guitarist in history.
Flea is such a genuine and humble guy! I have so much respect for him! Couldn't help but tear up during his speech. The music industry and the world needs more people like him!
Jack never recovered from that loss (tbh I never did too, and I never even met the guy, so we can only imagine how it was for Jack, Anthony and Flea!). But it was great to see him playing with his friends again, even if it was just one song.
God damn, Flea's speech made me cry. Seeing him so so happy and passionate and on the brink of tears made tears fall. Listening to his speech really made me realize that I want, I always wanted to do something in music.
26:10 Reason #349 why Flea is fucking amazing. Reason # 1 why Flea is amazing is just because Flea is Flea. Flea is the Chuck Norris of bass. You just dont fuck with him,he will destroy you.
Flea is just very Iconic to me. I have been listening to the peppers since I was a kid and flea was the first person to make me pay attention to a bass player. There are many other greats, but seeing the live footage of flea at any venue in the last few years shows he is still the crazy onstage persona he has always been, and his heart is still 100% into it.
I think John didn't come because he would have been a victim of the endless questions of "Is John staying?" "Is John back?" "John did way better than Josh" So instead of stoking the fire he just let Josh have his moment. Since so many people compare Josh to John and how John is better. So instead of causing controversy he just chose not to go. They could have not chose a better guitar player to take Johns place. Josh is worthy and most are unwilling to give him a chance. He's here to stay.
John didn't go because he no longer was obligated to and didn't care to. He only ever really cared about creating and playing music to the best of his abilities- not the b.s. of being famous--including&especially awards. But I'm with you, when John decided to leave the band-- it was his call to make. They knew he would at some point, before they were ready to "retire". He knew he got to where he had had enough and was ready to move onto his projects&life. Away from the circus parade. Haters? I vote Bless Josh for being able and willing to do it. comparing the two of them is stupid. It's just different but that train will keep moving so why bother being negative to Josh? He didn't create the situation but he was able to make sure RHCP remain. Enjoy the new music we all get to hear!
Jonathan Flores victor wooten is not better. He is technically a better player. But just play a good groove (the most important thing for a bass player) flea wins it. Jaco pastorius or maybe 1 or 2 others are better. But you know, i think you only can compare musicians if they play in the same genre! Btw watch stanley clark with friends, with flea. Great jazz bass solo!
Red Hot Chili Peppers may not be the finest, most polished band in the world. But I dare anyone on this planet to find a band with as much love and emotional as the Red Hot Chili Peppers. No matter the lineup, no matter the circumstances, whenever you hear them they touch the heart like no other band can.
Sad Dave Navarro got no love, One Hot Minute was the album that got me into them and despite it not being their best album will always have a special place in my heart.
Well it was kinda a bad time for the band. They fired Dave Navarro and mananged to get John Frusciante back. They haven't played any One Hot Minute songs since Dave left. But yeah I think some of the speech was edited out (But I don't know that for sure).
Like Dave or not he was part of the peppers history. Their history is iconic and so is Dave. For the peppers to be who and what they are Dave and Hillels fates had to be what they were. It was written in the stars
I've seen at least a dozen induction on RU-vid, and his was the worst, unfortunately. Dave Letterman had less than 24 hours to prepare to induct Pearl Jam, and did far better.
@@romarina2687 oh yes, he does. Don´t know if you follow the RHCP carrer, but if you do you'll know how Chris listen do their musica and how close friends they´re.
Definitely. Some photos of the band elicit these raw emotions. Having John in there and showing the members smile is a classic one. Chad may yet be smiling as well... :)
I always feel bad for josh, cause he's a great musician, but he kind of gets left out in a lot of the interviews and speeches and stuff since he wasn't in the band from the beginning.
I kinda feel like that's because he doesn't want to speak.. Yes, he is kind of pushed away since he's new, but keep in mind they have been friends since like 2000! He probably just felt like not talking like always!
Huge respect to these guys especially flea getting choked up on his speech. I've been a massive fan for years I still remember buying by the way I'm now 29 still loving every minute of it. God bless the Red hot chili peppers. ✌🏼️
James M first two albums I purchased of theirs was Uplift Mofo Party Plan & Mother's Milk (same purchase). The shift from them with Hillel & Jack to Chad & John was drastic...in a good way. I immediately bought all their albums prior (mother's milk was the new album at the time) and have never looked back since. BSSM blew them up but for me, the opening riff of True Men Don't Kill Coyotes still gives me chills. And they're still as fresh as they were with their first album in 1984. Long live RHCP. Hillel, RIP. You were a true God and we miss you every day. If you haven't heard the band Jack was in a few years later, Eleven, check them out. You will not be disappointed. Stumbled upon them by accident actually at a CD shop in Burbank by my high school. Saw this CD sitting there...this had to be around 1991. I recognized Jack's picture and was instantly intrigued. Saw that band open for a then relatively unknown QOTSA in 2000 at this place in Denver. Anyhow, check them out as well.
While watching the performance i imagine John Frusciante is on stage playing his guitar with his beautiful smile. He deserved to be there so much, it would make everybody happy. We love you John and respect your decisions. God bless you !!
Chris Rock hit it on the head, I love the Peppers because they mixed styles we'll before it became commercially strategic to do so. They love funk and they didn't lampoon it, they absorbed it. Much respect. Flea is the epic universe to honor George Clinton.
How can you not love the Peppers? Whether or not you love their music, they seem like some of the most genuine people in rock. And I'm not gonna lie... Flea's speech had me tearin' up. He seems like such a wonderful human being.
Mitch Kincaid I agree. I don't dislike Josh as an individual but his music reminds me more of White Stripes/Jack White type guitar playing and is not nearly as technically perfect or melodic, and beautiful as Johns compositions.
+JaCodi Akers He left the band around 2007-2008. He was their guitarist that changed their music for the better co-created all of their greatest hits. Because he left, their songs lack and are missing something (mainly because their current guitarist isn't as experienced). Maybe there will be more improvement from their summer album
+Mitch Kincaid i feel you man i didnt get their new stuff. im a huge frusciante fan. i loved his raw talent. its sad he didnt go . i dont think its about experience though . their current guitarist just isnt him . frusciante is special.
15:10 Love how Flea mouthing along with Anthony, when he told the story about when Flea was about to quit the band. Makes you realize these guys has been through alot, together.
I'm a hudge Frusciante fan and I still believe he is the best guitarist in the world. But on the other hand, Josh is really making part of the band now and I think with time, he's become really good!
you know, when you got something crawling under your skin, the goosebumps. you know that you hear the real music. i love this guys so much, thank you red hot chili peppers for being part of my life.
Truly a group of boys that have grown physically and spiritually as men in my life. I met these guys in 1985, and fell in love with their energy and stage presence and KNEW they were going to make it big. For them to get inducted and be a part of their beginnings, i feel privileged.
My band supported them in 89, Manchester and Camden. It may've been their second Uk performances. Hillel died shortly after. They were kicking smack at the time. They were amazing. Hillel came and had a drink with us.
John still got inducted and still received his award even though he didn't come. John didn't come because he doesn't give 2 sh*ts about a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Josh didn't give a speech because he honestly has nothing to say since he hasn't contributed anything to the Peppers' induction. Dave was mentioned but whoever edited their speeches is an idiot. Also Anthony went on a much longer tangent on John Frusciante that was cut out. Hope that clears things up.
BigBad Bryant If people have seen the documentaries on the peppers they might know that John doesn't care the least about awards and honestly hates being acknowledged about this kind of stuff.Yeah its a huge deal, but thats not him at all. I give him props for being awesome for many years and not wanting a thing to do with being acknowledged for it.
josh did im with you and has done tours with the peppers for years and john might hace not come because he left the band and might not want to be associated with anymore
+BigBad Bryant fuck that shit, everyone is like "oh jhon frusciante doesn't care about awards he's cool anyway" fuck that bro, if he doesn't care about awards, he should care about his friends and the band, i mean the band gave him a chance when he was moribund and bankrupt.. the least he could have done was show up! frusciante will always be part of rhcp whether he like it or not
While Anthony was saying "I was gonna be the james brown of the 80s," flea was mouthing it. He already knew what Anthony was gonna say. That made me smile so big
* I love Chad’s simple and easy going ways. ** I love Flea’s obvious grateful love that he feels with the English language and the palpable energy he inspires in all of us. *** I love Anthony’s storytelling ways with his ability to engage humanity. **** And, I love Frusciante most of all. Together, these 4 have created some of the most psychedelic sounds in recent history. THANK YOU, Red Hot Chili Peppers for countless years of exceptional entertainment, and thank you Frusciante for deciding to come back in 2020...for whatever your reason(s) and whatever may come as a result. ***** Keep it rock steady, Chili Peppers, and keep it coming!
I rewatched this today, 2020, and I still get a bit emotional during Fleas speech. He’s so emotional about music and it sounds like he’s about to cry multiple times during his speech. True emotion and dedication in his music/playing/performing. + that hug afterwards. Forgive me for any mistakes, English is not my native language. Ps. It’s impossible to see where Flea and the bass ends/begins during a performance, they melt together and Flea *becomes* the bass.
RIP Slovak. Man I hope his spirit saw this. People miss him dearly. Literally the start of the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS. And John I love you more. The GOATS.
No matter what your musical preferences are, you will have a favourite song from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I had the pleasure of seeing them about 3 years ago and they still gave it their absolute all on stage like it was their first ever show and had a point to prove.
Personally I don’t like the idea of a rock and roll “hall of fame” but this is one of the best speeches I’ve seen by an artist. All were meaningful but Flea’s comments show why he is one of music’s most special ambassadors. A beautiful tribute to Hillel Slovak and total class to have all the past members on stage.
