Can we get this killer amp working again?
PLEASE NOTE: This is not a ‘tech’ channel, but simply a show-and-tell. It is not designed to give advice and support on vacuum tube amplifiers, but simply show what I get up to each week in the workshop. I deliberately keep tech talk to a minimum, or at least to a point where it’s understandable to the casual viewer. There are other channels more suited to that level of detail.
I do not do reviews, either paid or unpaid. My opinions are entirely my own and do not represent those of others.

I really enjoyed this video. I know nothing about electronics, but love guitar and amps. The ins and outs of electric guitars I get, but not amps. But I love watching this stuff. Thanks.

Enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing. There are some good tips - like using one hand when checking the higher voltage bits that take me back to uni labs (and in field jobs when I was a young engineer). Be really interested in how you check out grounding issues.

Really great to see the debugging process. One thing I was wondering was that if the 1k5 5W resistor burned up due to excess screen current, why did R23(100ohm 2W) not also burn as it was in series with the 1K5. I’m still learning so apologies if that makes no sense ! Really enjoying your channel 👌👌👏👏

If you think about it hard enough, it's a pretty simple explanation. Use Ohms and Joules Law and you'll get it :)

I've the same problem with a Fender Vaporizer. It lights up when switched on, but totally silent. Bought brand new boxed and only used a few times at home, but then due to health circumstances, covered in a dust sheet and unused for a couple of years.. Recently, when I was able to try using it again that's how I discovered it does not work. A phone call to Fender UK was useless. Customer service worker stated it is tough luck as out of warranty, and denied there are any known problems with this Amp. So, does it damage Valve Amps if they are stored unused for a few or several years ?

When calculating the dissipation in the output valves, shouldn’t you subtract the cathode-voltage from the plate-voltage in order to calculate the proper dissipation? The valves don’t “feel” the voltage you’re dropping across the cathode-resistor.

If you watch again, you’ll see I’m using Va-k and not Va-GND 👍
