Well good for you! I’m so happy to hear about that. With a little practice on a simulator (that “warns on mistakes”) playing low volatility games, like 9/6 JoB & 8/5 BP, and using a 1,000 coin bankroll (on whatever coin denomination that you’re playing) should get you some decent wins. Then you can practice-up on whatever other games that you like (or have been playing) and you’ll be a much stronger player. The game takes you to another level of enjoyment and accomplishment when your fundamentals are sound. Please keep in touch and let me know how it goes. Thank you for your kind words, Shannon!🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

Fantastic win! Congratulations! Your videos are helping us play better, spend better, and win better. Worked my way up to 50 cent coin and hit 2 quads and then 4 aces Sat night. Memorizing advanced strategy on Bonus is tricky, but it is really becoming worth it. Thank you for posting. I am very grateful 😎

I’m glad it is working out for you. It’s more reassuring and easier to “up your coin denominations” if you’re practicing on a simulator that “warns on mistakes”. You can play with more confidence that way. “Big Money Wins, Favor The Bold!”🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

I recommend 3 back-up bankrolls to aid in recovering any losses. The 1st bankroll loss is merely a deposit to be withdrawn at a later time with the other 2 bankrolls played on higher denomination coin. Being well-practiced on low volatility games is vital towards achieving this, along with a lot of luck!😅🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

Greetings from Torrance! Hi John! Its never a bad session if you can learn from your own mistakes and stay consistent as well as patient. There will always be bad sessions, but learning from them makes us better. I loved that you switched from Bonus to Double Double for a little bit as well as going back and forth with your denominations. Since I last spoke with you on New Years I am up another 1000 dollars. My last session I was stuck at a certain point, switched to Double Bonus to change the rhythm of the game and I hit 4 aces. Any time I am up to a certain point or the game feels warm I double up. Also, I think this is important, changing to another game, changes our rhythm and speed. I know I slow down a bit and concentrate more on my bankroll and temperature of the machine. Because I have been cashing out at set minimums, I am taking home a lot more money than before. Your advice and pointers are always going thru my mind as I am playing. Thank you professor! Paul.

You’re quite observant, Paul. I think I’ll branch out I little and start working on improving my play on DDB. It’s a great game to hit big on at the $5 coin level and beyond. I’m glad you’re systematizing your own playing style (game selections, coin denominations, and when to cash out). Have fun!🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

Thank you, Kevin. Whatever it is, it is. Just as there are sessions that end in “ruin” (equilibrium) i.e. bottomed-out and reached zero; there are those sessions too, where everything goes incredibly well with outrageously great hands and giant wins. I’m merely recording what occurs and always look forward to the next session, whatever it may bring. I also know that Big Royals are on their way and that they will add an exciting dimension to my play when captured on video! Keep up the good work!🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

It's obvious that you are not a big fan of double double my brother, I wonder if you ever sit down a play a long session on it. It used to be my favorite but I'm becoming a disciple of Bonus poker and watching you remain calm through the storm and making it back to safe harbor is just fabulous. I guess a 'hit it and quit it' strategy is best when deviating from your bread and butter game. Another lesson learned from your videos, thank you sir, keep on truckin'!
@johnsworldofvideopoker
@johnsworldofvideopoker 2 года назад
Thank you for your kind words. Bonus Poker should be the game that all “new players” start on when beginning their journey with video poker. It would serve them well to practice on a simulator that “warns on mistakes” to minimize their errors and really get close to “sloppy near perfect strategy” which is “good enough” to prevail against 8/5 Bonus Poker. Once they’ve become very proficient in 8/5 Bonus Poker (and it becomes their “home-base” game) that’s when the other games come into “existence”. Everyone needs a game to “retreat to” when the other games (with their higher volatilities) go South on them. This is a key factor in achieving better success on the games. It is critical to have a “low volatility game” (that a player is well-versed in: 8/5 Bonus Poker) to land on (retreat to on a session) in order to re-build their diminished bankrolls (after battles with the other games) that may have put a big dent in their bankrolls. Re-build your bankroll on Bonus Poker, and then attack the higher volatility games (again) with the newly re-acquired & replenished bankroll. In that way, the player is conversant in many games (with the better bonus payouts) but has also strengthened their overall approach to winning by incorporating Bonus Poker as a safety net to shore-up bankroll depletions from the other games. This approach will make you a better all around player and lead to more Royal Flushes on Bonus Poker. For those that find Bonus Poker “too boring” I say, “Master Bonus Poker First” and then go play $10, $20, $25, $50, $100 Coin machines with it. I guarantee you that you won’t be “bored” anymore and then when you hit a Big Royal on Bonus Poker you won’t regret making Bonus Poker your “go to” game. Now, I will say that I like DDB. But right now I’m focused on playing Bonus Poker at higher denominations. Once I reach certain goals that I have set for myself on Bonus Poker, I will then take everyone on an unbelievable journey on BPD, DDB, & TDB on high denomination coin. I am a “fan” of all the games actually, but I’m very realistic and pragmatic in understanding that they require massive bankrolls to fade their inherent volatilities. (Most players underestimate the true size of the bankroll needed to beat those games consistently and effectively (5X-10X more). In my very next video you’ll get a taste of what I mean about the true power of Bonus Poker. I’m glad that you’re exploring Bonus Poker now since it is largely overlooked by many players. Master it, get great on it, and then branch out from there. Thank you for bringing up a great point with your comments. Keep me updated on your progress in playing Bonus Poker (especially at a higher denomination than what you’ve played before). Be careful though and don’t gamble beyond your means to recover from it. Take care!🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

Switching to $2 DDB helped! That's my favorite combination...$2 coin-in Double Double. Your 25$ coin-in run at Caesar's with a $2,500 bankroll was a ballsy move (that paid off)...nice!! I always make reservations at the Steakhouse at my go-to casino here in NorCal...there's nothing like sitting down and playing high-limit VP after a killer steak dinner!

No doubt about the classic steak & video poker “night on the town”. Great move! Yes, I’ll probably stick around on the $2 coin mode for a while. It can deliver nice hits on DDB and of course an $8,000 Royal Flush is always gratifying too. Peter Luger’s is coming to Caesars Palace soon. That is one great steak that you don’t want to miss. Also, great is any steak at Tom Colicchio’s Heritage Steak at the Mirage. If you eat there once, you’ll go 10X! Stay in touch and thank you for subscribing, John!🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

Green Valley Ranch & South Point are fine casinos. They don’t offer as much as, Red Rock, does (in the realm of video poker), but they are worthy casinos to play in. If you don’t make it to, Green Valley Ranch, then go to Palace Station (just minutes away from Caesars Palace). If you’ve been to, Red Rock, then you’ve been to the other two. The same can not be said, however, the other way around. Red Rock reigns supreme in all things video poker. Let us know how it goes on your trip. I’m excited for you!🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

Palace Station has very good pay tables at lower denominations & up. Caesars has good pay tables inside the Palace Court Slots area but at higher denominations. It literally only takes 4 minutes to get to Palace Station from Caesars without going on the freeway. Go out the back hang a right, get in the left lane to go left towards Rio, take a right onto West Twain Avenue, a right on Polaris, all the way down to West Desert Inn Road, turn right, then stay right on side street (Rancho Drive) and you’ll be right at Palace Station in 1 minute. Quad Aces (or multiple hits on 2's, 3's, or 4's) are the bread & butter of Bonus Poker. They're 1/10th of a Royal Flush, yet if you keep hitting a lot of them, they'll keep you on the game long enough for many Royal Flushes to start showing-up in your playing career. "One Royal Flush gives birth to all the others!" And it all emanates from 2's, 3's, 4's, and Quad Aces on Bonus Poker.

Hey John you and BigKat really have some fun and exciting content. As well as slotmassacre. You guys motivate me to want to start my own video poker channel on a much smaller bankroll of course lol. I do have a question. Do you think changing the speed of the cards has any effect on the game? I can change the speed pre deal of course and also before I hit Draw on the deal draw video poker machine I play at my local horseshoe casino in Louisiana. Just wanna know your thoughts and maybe others to do if you’d like to cover changing speed in one of your vids. THANKS AND GO GET EM!!
@johnsworldofvideopoker
@johnsworldofvideopoker 2 года назад
Hi Matty, Changing the speed of the deal has no effect on the game itself other than knowing that, the faster one plays, the more prone the player is to make more errors either by “missing” the correct play (on very close hands) or sticky buttons that jam unexpectedly and a hold is “un-held” because the button didn’t “hold” the card in place. Also, a player will burn through their bankroll much more quickly and (because of the short session length) may be tempted to chase their losses because the session wasn’t long enough to “quench their thirst” for playing time. I used to play at the mid-speed level but realized that on RU-vid (even that is too fast) for viewers to watch your play comfortably. I now play at the slowest selector speed possible and find that it is enjoyable to take one’s time, make the right card selections, and lengthen one’s stay in the casino. You’ll notice in my Red Rock videos that I was in the mid-level speed zone. I didn’t want to discard all that footage, so I posted it any way. In my future videos, all play will be conducted at the slowest speed possible. Good luck with your channel and have fun with it!🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎
@MattyC24
@MattyC24 2 года назад
@@johnsworldofvideopoker thanks for the response and knowledge. It’s funny you mention how you were on mid speed in the video and that’s what drew my attention into making me ask you that question lol. Also one more question. Let’s say on a triple play machine do you think hitting the button to stop the cards prematurely affects the deal outcome or since it’s pre determined by the machine it doesn’t matter if you let them deal themselves or hit the button to speed up your deal you will end up with the same deal result. I hope that’s not confusing and you understand what I’m asking lol. Thanks man
@johnsworldofvideopoker
@johnsworldofvideopoker 2 года назад
I don’t know how the timing is set-up between the 3 hands, but I suspect that there is a single random number generator (RNG) shuffling all 3 decks simultaneously. So once you press deal, the RNG instantly stops shuffling and deals out the cards randomly. The RNG is constantly shuffling the deck hundreds of times (if not thousands of times a second) which means that the specific card that you want or need is instantly “there” and then, instantly “not there”, hundreds or thousands of times in a single second. Because of the speed and randomness of the game you have a real and fair chance of getting the card you want or need regardless of how fast or slow you push the buttons. The RNG is truly a marvelous aspect of the game because that “randomness” allows for improbable possibilities to occur, such as my 3 Royals, in 3 hours, on 3 different machines, in 2 different casinos, for $114,000 in Royal Flush wins! Otherwise, we would have to wait approximately 40,233 hands to hit a Royal Flush (on average). I hit 3 Royals in less than 3,000 hands that night. Thank goodness for the RNG!🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

@@johnsworldofvideopoker haha for sure man that was a great night for you. I’m not sure if I seen that video but I’ll go look for it if you have it posted. Right before the 2222 on ddbp you had the suited ace 4 Broadway cards and held the suited ace. Is that correct is It basically almost even holding the 4 to straight? Win poker at 8/5 says it’s an error to hold suited ace? FYI I love the content and the format. And yes we live ddbp :-)
@johnsworldofvideopoker
@johnsworldofvideopoker 2 года назад
I believe you are referring to the J♦️& A♦️hold that occurs at 6:06 in the video (instead of holding for an inside Broadway Straight). On 8/5 DDB you are correct to hold the Broadway Straight, but at Red Rock this is a 9/6 DDB pay table, which makes the suited Ace/Jack the correct hold. Holding for the Broadway Straight would be forfeiting a 1.6% advantage to the casino, which is really a very minor error. The 1st card that came out on the next deal was an Ace, which validated the correct hold. The 9/6 DDB pay table has a 98.98% payback whereas the 8/5 DDB pay table has a horrendous 96.78%. If your local casino only has 8/5 DDB then you’d actually be better off play 6/5 BP which pays back 96.86% (which is also a horrendous pay table). I don’t know which casino market you’re in, but hopefully you have better pay tables than the ones that we’re talking about here. Hopefully, you can make it out to Vegas and go to Red Rock Resort Casino, you’d be in video poker pay table heaven there! Thank you for your comments and for subscribing, Bill. Hope to see you in Vegas soon!🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

Listening to your discussion about high denom. I notice you play BP instead of DDB or higher, where the wins on a good hand will be much higher (altho you did switch to DDB). Is there a reason for that? Love your videos.
@johnsworldofvideopoker
@johnsworldofvideopoker 2 дня назад
That’s a great question. I’ve largely stayed with 8/5 BP because it is an easy game to learn, it pays 10 coins on the frequently hitting 2 pair hand (which slowly replenishes a player’s bankroll during a session), and those because those factors have allowed me to score a lot of big royals when coining-up to the higher denominations. The other games are also good to play because of the bigger quad hits, and bonus quad hits with kickers, but a player generally needs more bankroll to “get to” those hits. But I do see the merit in playing all the other games with higher volatilities. Also, playing all the other games, requires strategy changes, which means more and more learning and training to avoid making errors when switching from one game to another. That’s not only a lot more work, but until a player reaches competency in all those other games, the introduction of more errors during that process is going to be more costly over the long run. However, I do know much better players than me who know and command all the other games effortlessly and they frequently reap the rewards of the bigger hits that you mention. Finally, I’ve decided that I need to broaden my approach by adding more of the other games into my repertoire. Little by little, I’ll begin that transition to some of the other games, but use them sparingly to better preserve the bankroll.☺️🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

@@johnsworldofvideopoker For the most part most video poker videos on RU-vid are the recreational player. It's refreshing to see someone who takes the game seriously and tries to play correct. I consider myself an advantage player and have enjoyed many visits to Vages for free. I get a kick out of braking even if I can get room, food, and travel paid for. Keep up the good work.

The Wynn is not across the street from palace station fyi

I apologize for the casual reference in my video regarding the location of Palace Station. I meant to say it’s “right across the freeway”, and NOT “right across the street”. As one can clearly see in the photo in my video, Palace Station, is in the general vicinity of Resorts World which is “right across the street” from Encore/Wynn. Thank you for the correction.😊🌎

Nice video John. Does your family prefer the Wynn spa over the Encore? I will be there in just over a week and I usually stay at the Encore. Thanks. Ron

The services in both are identical so neither one will disappoint you. The decor in both are just about equal in every respect so there really is no wrong choice here. The decor inside the Encore spa has a slight edge over the Wynn spa due to its higher ceiling & drapery inside the spa itself, but that would be splitting hairs. You’re going to love them both! Let us know how it goes!🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

I used to go to Atlantic City (every 2 years with the family) until the pandemic put a dent into that tradition. I haven’t been there in a while, so I’m sure things have changed quite a bit since I’ve been there. I did beat the new Hard Rock & Oceans casinos out of some money off of their generous tier-match free play offers at the time though. They did not have good pay tables. I’ve stayed at Caesars Palace in their penthouse suite (which they comped me after they botched my reservation) so that was a nice touch. I’ve also stayed at Harrah’s A.C. and the Borgata. I liked the Borgata very much and they had decent pay tables at the time. The Harrah’s High Limit had a few good pay tables as I recall. I also played at the Golden Nugget but their pay tables only went to a mid-tier 7/5 Bonus Poker game. Actually, I can’t wait to hit Atlantic City with my buddy, Curtis & Slotmassacre, at some point in the near future, but we haven’t figured that out yet. I would check vpfree2 online to see what the latest is on the pay tables there. The Tropicana & Caesars may have some good pay tables in High Limit, but I don’t know for sure. I recommend that you scout out the High Limits at Borgata, Harrah’s, Caesars, Tropicana, Hard Rock, & Oceans. Please let me know what you find. And good luck to you! Thank you for commenting and for your viewership.🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

John, another very good video. I learn a lot about myself as a player by watching your videos. I generally don't have a win goal for a session; but, rather a play goal to take advantage of a promotion. I expect to finish down most sessions. I just keep grinding away at 9/6 Job and 8/5 BP. Lately, I haven't been playing much due to the stock market correction. When my NW is down, so is my desire to play video poker. Good comments on the suited 10 ace. This hand also limits the player to only one inside straight/no straight flushes as compared to 10 jack with more straight options/straight flushes. A bit of a tangent, today Bill Bennett appeared on Fox Business. Back in the day he was a high limit video poker player in Las Vegas with substantial loses. I wonder if he still plays?
@johnsworldofvideopoker
@johnsworldofvideopoker 2 года назад
Thank you for the insights on the limitations imposed upon a player who incorrectly chooses to hold the suited Ace/10 in video poker. Ironically, I don’t play video poker as often as I used to as I did when I first started out 10+years ago. I still love the game but I have a more measured approach to it now than I used to. Playing a higher denomination coin has something to do with that also. When you win big, there’s no reason to go back and slowly return that money, and if you’re starting to have a losing streak, it’s best just to lie low and just practice on a simulator at home instead. Either way, it ends up being good for your financial bottom line. On another tangent, look-up this article on the internet, “How to lose $1 Billion in video poker. That was a big story here in the San Diego area back in the day. A morality tale played out in real life. It is also a word to the wise. As always, I appreciate all that your comments bring to this channel. Thanks again, Mark.🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

If you’re playing on the 50¢ coin denomination, a $200-$400 bankroll is a good starting point for sure. I hope you hit a lot of Quads with it! And perhaps even a Royal will rollout for you! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

Do you always play at Red Rock? Where is the best place to play video porker
@johnsworldofvideopoker
@johnsworldofvideopoker 2 года назад
I play mainly at Red Rock because the casino is well-stocked in every variety of video poker game available and, in particular, 8/5 Bonus Poker at all denominations including 25¢, 50¢, $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $25, $50, & $100 coin denominations. South Point is good at the lower end of the coin denomination spectrum but is severely lacking in the high denominations. The Strip (Such as Caesars Palace, Wynn, Venetian, Cosmo, & Bellagio, are good at the higher denominations, but have very bad pay tables at the lower denominations. So, Red Rock has it all. Palace Station is also good, but nothing beats Red Rock. I do like playing any high limit on the Strip that features 8/5 BP, 9/6 JoB, 9/6 BPD, 9/6 DDB, 9/6 TDB, and NSUD Deuces Wild. The best place to play overall is Red Rock & Palace Station or any place that features 9/6 JoB & 8/5 BP in all the high denomination coins.🌎

1999-2008 were very good years to be playing video poker. I’ve been to the Silverton and checked out some machines there. Eventually, I’ll settle-in for a couple sessions there. They do have some games that are worth playing there. I liked the down-to-earth vibe there. Thank you for your comments and for subscribing.🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

When you tell people "it's very important to have a backup bankroll," it's very misleading. There's zero guarantee amything will ever come to fruition. Just saying. Congrats on the aces!
@johnsworldofvideopoker
@johnsworldofvideopoker 2 года назад
You are correct (and it goes without saying) that there is no expectation of a “guaranteed win” in gambling. And I’m not suggesting that there is one. Especially for those players that are “recreational” in their understanding of video poker. “Risk tolerance” is an individual matter that each player has to come to grips with on their own. Playing low volatility games is important, constant daily practice on a simulator that “warns on mistakes” (to minimize your error rate in the casino) is a critical factor as well. Bankroll management is a very important consideration too. I’ve chosen to mitigate the losses by breaking one large bankroll into 5 distinct parts. On my trips to Vegas, I carry 3 bankrolls for use during that one visit. If I were to “lose” all 3 bankrolls (seldom does that occur), I still have 2 more at home to use at my local casino to re-coup any losses in Vegas or at the very least win half of what I lost back. My perspective with the 5 bankrolls is to “break even” and get back to parity in the worst case scenario. Typically, if I were to lose 2 bankrolls (out of the 3) in Vegas, then I’ll usually NOT use the 3rd bankroll and call it quits for that particular visit in Vegas and then just enjoy the restaurants, pools, spas, shows, etc. On the flip side, however, when I win Big, I can then add even more money to the 5 individual bankrolls in order to play even higher denominations in Vegas. Then, once a Mega win occurs ($40,000-$100,000), I could make a jumbo payment on the mortgage to accelerate paying it off sooner. At that point, I can start all over with 5 lower denomination bankrolls and work my way back up to the Mega wins once again. There’s no attempt on my part to be misleading, but it is challenging to be completely clear in a short video. So I agree with you that a Warning Label should be included here: Don’t try this at home folks and let the buyer beware. Don’t gamble with money that you can’t afford to lose.🌎
