The push notifications from the heads when they are loose or not working is worth its weight in gold and if their is a power cut you also get a notification not to mention its manual dosing buttons which are faster for priming and for quick top up doses alot of other dosers have lost them now also the motors do not need to be aligned to the spindle, its very good technology and its a cut above alot of other dosers out there oh and the on board digital diary which can be downloaded to laptop etc.
May I ask after calibration using a small output tube to my measuring graduated cylinder.. when I hook up the 4 ft output tube to reach my sump…how do I prime that long tube?
If they're using stepper motors and stepper motor drivers then it will be very precise. This is what control method is used on 3D printers. You can really control the rotation of the motor with micro stepping.
Is there a dosing pump that works in conjunction with probe in the water to make adjustments on it's own without having to test the water all the time? I travel a bit for work and trying to set up a reef that is easy for the wife to manage while im out of town.
"Step Controlled Head" is an interesting statement. I've not used a decent reef-centric or pharma industry peristaltic that doesn't pressure/release when manually spinning the head. That's kinda how peristaltics roll (pun intended). Three-speed motor control, eh?. Thinking PWM?
Hey Jake, if money would not be the deal and you have to choose, what Doser would you pick. The Red Sea Reef Doser, the kamoer f4 pro or the Ecotech Versa pumps? Greetings from Germany
Man it really depends on what you're trying to achieve, those are all great choices but if you use Red Sea additives the ReefDose will probably have the greatest synergy
I remember when I first started in this hobby over 15 years ago the lfs had a beautiful sps dominant display that had a redsea wavemaker (wavemaster pro) on it controlling like 4 of those old school powerheads but I remember that was the coolest little piece of technology.
I really like the GHL ecosystem. But their dosers are just stupid. Those flimsy hose connectors are just a joke. It's about time the industry stanardises with JG quick connects. But I like what Red Sea has done here.
That's exactly what ecotech has done with the versa, I found that to be a extremely helpful addition. May be worth looking into for you, if I remember right they are a slight step-up from the GHL dosers reliability wise?
@@ayrtonm thanks. I'll keep looking for a while. I moved abroad and don't have an aquarium for a while, but it's really great to see the gear getting better. Those options will shake up the market and perhaps GHL will make a move to catch up. But they aren't known to make a lot of changes 😁
Good review. I was wondering if that branding for their motor meant it was viable as an AWC system or not but thanks for the clarification in the comments. I now understand that the Red Sea Doser is not suggested for AWC.
Got mine on release day in UK and I still can’t get it to connect to wifi so can only use it in direct mode. Managed to pair it to my phones hotspot so I know the built in wifi is working but it won’t connect to my home wifi. 2.4ghz network separated to manually connect and still won’t work.
@@mous3y490 different, I have them split to separate networks so I can choose which one to connect to. Tried setting up the doser on the 2.4ghz network but it won’t connect
I can't understand why EVERY doser doesn't do the automatic 24 hour calculated dosing. My ~8 year old Marine Color doser does it, but it seems like others are only recently adding the feature. I tried a Jebao and got an ATI doser free, and was shocked to see both of them required manual hour by hour programming. Hard deal breaker for me.
Hi, thanks for the great review. I would like to use the unit on a AIO tank. Ideally I would like to mount the unit in the cabinet undeneath. How far vertically can the unit pump?
Still haven’t got into dosing, might just eyeball it out and try my hand at manual dosing before I get into dosing pumps, only thing I see myself auto-dosing is phyto in the future. Cheers man, great video!
Hi Jake how did you transition the Red Sea tubing to the hard plastic tube at the merlok fitting? What did you use to make the connection? Thanks in advance for your reply...
Hey Jake, thanks for the review brother. I have a RS650p will be LPS dom. but mixed reef was think of starting to dose Kalk via its own doser see any reason why this would not work for kalk dosing? any idea of the head high was thinking I could make a large jug in the basement and have it pulled up to the tank.
I am curious to know is their a maximum length in which the intake tube should be and hence the distance in which the dosing container should be from the dosing unit. The reason I ask is that I want to place the dosing containers about 2 meters away from the dosing unit. Just worried their may be side affects, possibly inaccurate dosing?
Im guessing this doesn't quite stack up against the versa mechanically? Iirc they use better quality motors and are rated for 24/7 duty. Whilst i doubt you'd be able to run this doser as a 24/7 calcium reactor pump for instance. Nevertheless its a great addition to their lineup.
Id stick with the Versa due to it being more robust and having better motors. But honestly unless your planning to run it as a continuous duty pump, either would do fine.
I have a question. Would it be a good idea to use the red doser with AB+ and Nopox? I’m trying to put food without havin an impact on nitrates and or phosphates. I hope that makes sense.
I use it for these.nopox can cause a whole world of pain if overdosed though so don't do what I did while priming & accidently dump 25x the dose into tank 😢😂
There is alot of innovation in the software and hardware and the push notifications take it too a new level especially for those without apex and all the probes.
@@golbs7542 no its not, ive had every kamoer model including the english dd version they tell you remaining liquid not if the heads are working, if you dont like redsea doser jog on to a kamoer post and stop being so silly :)
@@bopeep7806 I've got a kamoer pro and it does all the same things. Alert when its low and all the wifi programming stuff. I use red sea products. I just can't justify the prices of some equipment in this hobby especially when it's just basic programming and old tech and motors made all shiny. Kamoer is also very expensive for what it is. Peter, are you a red sea rep? Lol Also can't find the kamoer posts. Did you think this was Facebook or RU-vid?
@@golbs7542 the redsea doser sends a push notification to your smartphone or device if the heads are not on properly or they are not turning properly also they send you a wifi disconnected/electric off push notification, kamoer do not have this function also the redsea doser has a diary on board to record doses of each head and the additive added this can be then down loaded to a laptop or another device, i have used all the kamoer doser’s the pro/x4 and the uk version which is branded under dd they do not have these function’s and no I’m not a rep for redsea, i like to try all new reaf gear which i buy myself and when somethings innovative i like to compliment it and correct people who think they can rubbish a product or say its nothing new when it clearly is, that said in an honest verdict would i dose with one, yes, do they function and perform well short term, yes are they a quality feel product, they feel ok, some other brands feel better quality but open them up and you find they have rubber seals and there plastic so as not to rust also the tubing is better quality but you have to buy it separate where as the kamoer/dd have these in the box, but they both virtually the same price with the latest kamoer you have to buy bracket where as the redsea have one on box, i do think redsea should of put piping and tubr clips and sump bracket in box to out compete competitor’s they are upselling as most brands do, also i do have the redsea and the dd pro to dose some of my aquariums, i prefer the dosetronic with alkatronic myself as its more automated but for the pricepoint the redsea are abit ahead of their competitors, long term use i cannot comment as ive only had my redsea 4 months, its never missed a beat and all parameters remain fairly steady.
