This announcer (Jon Miller) supplies the sense of excitement and wonder that is SO OFTEN LACKING in other broadcasters. I've heard other amazing sports occurrences narrated with near drowsiness and it practically ruins the experience. This is how it's done.
I remember being 9 years old and watching this live with my dad. I can play this back in my head perfectly (in Jon Miller's voice and all). Life has happened since then, both good and bad, but the memory of this game remains vivid. Sports truly are a treasure.
Having Manny and Ortiz back to back was EVERY pitchers nightmare. 04 and 07 were just tremendous times. Red Sox fan or not, you HAVE TO admire those teams. Shutting the Yankees up, the astros sucked, LA sucked(well the angels had a few good years), life was good. Cheers
@@brandonshimer1271 that was a special moment that I’ll always remember! I will never forget the visual of Tori Hunter going over the wall his 2 feet sticking straight up and the cop is pictured in between both legs with his hands, pumping his fist above his head. And it was such a clutch moment tying the game. Huge memory good call.
Jon Miller & Joe Morgan- Sunday night baseball. I used to love summers after mowing the lawn and smelling that fresh cut grass through the window as I plop down to watch whoever was playing that night, didn't matter who. Man I'd give anything to relive the 90's again....
Fenway bumped back then. I remember standing at Citi field with bases loaded in the 9th and the guy behind me asked me to sit down. Made me appreciate Fenway more.
I just realized that JD Drew not only hit the second homerun here, but also hit the second in four straight with the Dodgers the year prior. Interesting.
Jon miller the best, i remember all the years he was orioles radio announcer i would listen to him on the radio in the summer time snd just love it. He made you feel like you were there.
There really is something magical about baseball. Chills and excitement out of absolutist no where. Watching this after the WBC Japan comeback just feels right
I remember watching this game with my older brother who wasnt into sports at all and him losing his mind after the 4th homer. Thats why I love sports, anything can happen on any given night
I was at that game.. and man it was just a game engraved in my memory.. i was younger .. nvr got as crazy as adults.. but when this happened my inner craziness came out of me and I was so happy and going crazy .. I was 12
More of a football guy (casual baseball fan), but I love that announcer. I'm concerned that guys like this with their passion and charisma are a dying breed (in all sports). I hope I'm wrong. Anyone?
When Varitek went deep the crowd sounded like game 7 of the WS. Man, that was awesome. I would’ve loved to have been there. Hearing Jon Miller brings me right back to watching SNB from like 2000-2010.
coming back to look at this video is nuts. i was at this game with my Dad in 07 and i was only about 9 years old but i remember it like it was yesterday. Coco crisp made an unreal catch over the wall later in the game and fans started throwing money onto the field, craziest sporting event i had ever witnessed.
For this to happen at Fenway... Against the Yankees... Jesus, that just makes this pop so much louder than if it was at a different ball park versing another team. That Boston team was ridiculously stacked with hitters, but in that division you need to be otherwise you become the team who gets used for win staking.
Such a vintage Sox murderers row right there. Manny, JD Drew, Lowell and Varitek. All so beloved by the fans minus JD and even JD was good for us occasionally. Mike Lowell was always one of my favorites growing up, his swing was pretty af. Miss these days of Sox baseball.
Willy Mo Pena was the 5th batter and he struck out 3 times. Dice-K pitched and gave up 6 ER but at least he pitched 7 innings instead of his usual 5 innings! He also got the W.
J.D. Drew also was apart of four homers in a row with the Dodgers I wonder how many players have been apart of 4 homers in a row with two different teams???
I just looked up the pitcher, Chase Wright. His debut into the major leagues was on April 17th. This dude got to enjoy the limelight for _5 days_ until this game happened, and he became the second pitcher in MLB history to give away 4 consecutive home runs. He was immediately sent back to the minors.
@@discgolfinsolace7481 I probably wouldn't want it brought up either, haha. That's a good perspective, though. He was good enough to reach the majors, which is a feat of its own.
I remember this like it was yesterday. Yankees had a rookie starting pitcher that night. This was his 2nd time through that deadly lineup and I remember looking at my mom and saying “This is gonna be a big inning for us. This guy got through the lineup once with difficulty, now he’s in trouble.” This game also ended either 9-7 or 8-7 for Boston. It was a one of the best games in this rivalry.
On a side note, I remember wanting those batting gloves that Mike Lowell and Jason Varitek were wearing sooooo bad back in High School. Everyone did. Those are by far the greatest batting gloves Nike has ever made...
Chase wright was from my home town all of our local news stations and newspapers were so excited for him to make his debut. I remember tuning in excited and this happened lol 😂
This should have been 5 in a row. The next batter, Willy Mo Pena, got a meatball curve on the first pitch he saw. However, Wily Mo, could only hit fastballs, hence why his career fizzled out quickly.
