midsommar - the festival and mainly movie were part of the lore. If u enjoy psychological horror movies, u should give it a shot. Maybe the red clothes were to display the sacrifice implication of the ceremony
if you noticed below “The End,” it is stated that the mv is based on Midsommar, both the festival and the horror film. youd surely appreciate the mv more once you watched the movie (some mv details like the flowers on the eyes, the flowers moving on seulgis crown when she turned around, the animation in the beginning just like how the movie started, etc).
"bubble" is almost my fav, but im not surprised cuz it was produced and written by SUMIN and Charli Taft. SUMIN is probably my favorite soloist ever, her music is super unique and fuses rnb, soul, house but in a quirky way which I love. She's also credited on "Look" and "Eyes locked, hands locked" (my fav song by rv and ever actually) by RV. Charli is also mostly known for being a producer and writer for kpop, mostly for rnb bangers such as "Automatic", "Look" and "Time Slip"by RV, "Impurities" by Lesserafim, "Hush" by SES, "Eclipse" by Kim Lip and so many more. I think that just by the songs she's worked on u can tell she's a genius. Though she's only released one album and a few singles, they're all amazing. You should definitely check both of these girls' solo work cuz the quality is otherwordly. I would start with the MINISERIES album by SUMIN and Slom, it's FUCKING AMAZING!!!!

Since the composers are also Swedish, they definitely would've been influenced to include disco inspiration from ABBA especially that instrumental in chorus :) ... Also, as someone pointed out this whole MV concept is based on Midsommar, a Swedish festival based on Summer solstice (there's also a viral movie) and it is celebrated b/w June 21 to 25, so they released this song right to fit into it !
I've never seen that movie, but I totally didn't place the connection between ABBA & the solstice festival both being Swedish! And THE FACT THAT THEY RELEASED IT ON THE SOLSTICE!!!!!!! What the heck, why didn't I catch that?! SO BRILLIANT. RV concepts never fail.
I still get goosebumps hearing that first chorus. It sounds SO FULL. the post-chorus was so unexpected too. I so agree with you on Red Velvet's new sound and how they've finally found that perfect balance they were trying to achieve with Chill Kill (and even FMR). Back then, when they would combine Red and Velvet it was always a happy track with a slightly sinister undertone, but it was mostly superficial, and they used to only express it through literal instrumentation. Red+Velvet used to mean bright+R&B, but now the sound they're going for is a MIX of emotions: something complex, and it's more personal? idk how to express it, but it's a special thing that I haven't heard elsewhere... I guess the closest word I could think of is "bittersweet" or irony.
H'yesssssss. It sounds so FULL. In an unexpected way. It just lifts me up and carries me away! (omg riding on their rhythm through the solar system... LIT'rally!) They really have found that perfect balance. It isn't Red, it isn't Velvet. It's both. You nailed it - their previous songs would, at most, feel like a really bright, bubbly song with some velvety harmonies & instrumentation here and there. This one feels equally bright AND dark somehow. Ah, it's so unique and it's so perfectly THEM.
Cosmic makes me feel genuinely so full of happiness. I've been looping it non-stop since last night when it came out. My Spotify queue plays Cosmic every other song because I get bored of other songs and keep adding it back lmao I just hate SM for fucking up this comeback. I'm HOPING, this is just a mini and the true anniversary album comes out later this year. PLEASE, I BEG.
Feel My Rhythm took me a week, Chill Kill 4 listens, Cosmic.. when the chorus hit, I knew, when we crossed the bridge to the final chorus, my soul levitated. Haven't felt this way about a red velvet title track in so long. The last time was..oddly, Birthday lol Huge part of me is hoping Cosmic is the first album of 3 parts. Maybe we get a summer album and a winter album. We had the Red Velvet side. Maybe we get a Red Summer album and a Velvet Winter album.
Hahaha okay, I agree that I haven't felt THIS EXCITED about a RV title track in a long time. Maybe 'Queendom'... that took a couple listens, but I was EXCITED about it. Birthday? I think those red outfits with the white background makes sense. they were referencing Midsommar, the movie, and there was that one scene with the book with Chidi, and the male protagonist sitting with one of the elders.. and that's basically where all the trouble began for him.

When I first heard Cosmic intro it's giving a familiar vibe and flow but with its prechorus- na uh, they gave me this untraditional flow chorus that no one ever touched. They mean the Kpop world to me. Thank you for existing Red Velvet
The music video is inspired by the movie Midsommar (it says so at the bottom when the The End screen appears) so if you've watched that movie or even know about it a little then you will find the music video to be a lot more darker and eerie!
I have never watched that and I probably never will lol. I'm too much of a scaredy cat for thrillers like that. Give me the creepy story set to some funky ABBA-esque music and with fun choreography, please and thank you! haha
I think the movie fits Red Velvet concepts so well, both Red and Velvet sides of them. Midsommar was revolutionary by the fact they made a creep a*s f**k Thriller with most of The scenes on daytime. And about The Red look, I also thought It didn't fit to The video that well, but what I thought about It is that It could represent blood. All The blood that we have on the original piece that we didn't have on the MV.

I love that SM girls are serving the way they are. I think aespa is kind of picking up the torch from RV (the same way RV picked it up from SNSD) and it makes me so, so happy! But as much as I loving aespa right now.... which is A LOT... nothing makes me happy the way RV does!
They are my absolute favorite group right after Babymetal. Nothing Red Velvet has ever released has ever disappointed Me. Some of their songs have to grow on you. Some of them you may never get to like. That's perfectly okay. One thing you can always be confident in: the vocals will be elite. The harmonies will be there and be elite. 🤌🏻🤌🏻

I agree! Cosmic had me at hello, while most RV title tracks take me a little bit (at least Red ones do). But that doesn't mean it's not experimental or unique or strange, which is what is so surprising about it feeling so comfortable.

They’ve said in a recent interview they are releasing music that is combining more Red and Velvet now (just like Feel My Rhythm and Chill Kill) so it makes total sense you’re hearing both sides and they’re perfecting the balance every comeback!
They're THE only girl group active with all Korean members. Let that sink in first. Kpop is global now. Red Velvet is not "global" enough. But I love them.
STAYC (4th gen) is another group that has all Korean members. They have a comeback on July 1st. I think RV is the only 3rd Gen all Korean members. But I could be wrong! Either way, I'm always proud when 2nd/3rd Gen groups come back.
Stardust meets midsommar. For me they're witches (and the cult leaders) that consume the stars that fall to maintain their youth. This is very 70s: the cults, the Abba inspiration and the eeriness.

The music in the beginning reminds me of the guitar in the chorus of Attention by Charlie Puth and the strings in the chorus remind me of I will Survive by Gloria Gaynor (the part that Ive sampled for After Like).

YES! Precisely that! Particularly in the chorus. We have really interesting chord progressions that pique your ears but then when you want them to resolve, instead of finishing the phrase they start again and it's like... ahhhhhhh! It's so perfectly Red Velvet

I'm over 60, not a k-pop fan before, but I felt sad, found Joy and walked away listening to a Joy playlist and came back to RU-vid serving me Red Velvet. Well, it did have Joy, but that isn't the reason I totally love Red Velvet. They are just the very best. I don't know about you. I'm sure Joy is my bias, Wendy is my wrecker, but I'd be lying if I said I don't love everyone of the members. Weird huh? So I don't judge, but maybe you can help me understand why you have so little content for your ult girl group? I'm curious because I'm frustrated, along with the fandom, that SM doesn't promote Red Velvet like they should. You mentioned Aespa (ouch). It seems to me that we who love them need to support them because SM won't do it properly. I think you could do more RV content. What should I do? Are Reveluvs letting our cake girls down?
