I love that they chose Stephen Fry to play the King. He is a gay icon in the U.K. This had to be so fun for him to film, especially when he had to say “Homosexual!” 😂
Henry saying “i think we should make love tonight’ isnt that weird for us gays. See, intercourse takes a little prep ahead of time, so you kind of have to plan a bit. 😂❤. TBH, that sex scene is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen is a queer film. Whoever the intimacy coordinators were on the film did an amazing job of choreographing.
I lost it at "Conquer their country" after Alex said "What if he won't see me?". I can just see him marching into his mom's office and being like, "So Mom, we need to invade England".
it’s definitely a rom com enemies to lovers styled book and movie. what i love though is i’ve watched so many straight movies like this growing up that the gays deserve to have this style movie too. so glad you enjoyed it! ✨ i saw someone else say it but this is also a part of a new wave of queer joy media like Heartstopper, Fire Island, Bros, The Thing About Harry, Single All The Way, Love Simon/Love Victor and so on haha
I totally agree with your review. I almost turned off the movie after 10 minutes, but it slowly crept up on me and by the end I immediately wanted to watch it again...and over the next few months, I did just that almost to the point of obsession! It is a totally feel-good experience.
You stopped too early, after the credits, there is a bonus scene and a dedication to Taylor Zakhar Perez’ sister Kristy, who died of cancer last year June, 2 months before the movie premiered.
They don't mention it in the movie, but when Alex was a kid he had a poster of young Henry on his wall and he'd look at it and not understand why it affected him so much.
I love this film so much. I am a big fan of the book and they did such a great job translating the spirit of it to the screen. It’s my go to comfort movie now. I think the thing to remember is that for decades we mostly only had romcoms featuring straight, white couples. This movie was #1 on Prime in over 80 countries and that is a very big deal. It was so well done, they really knocked it out of the park. Great performances from Taylor and Nicholas and the whole cast. Looking forward to the sequel!

There are two deleted scenes that Prime posted to YT you should check out. There's a short one, a kitchen scene called the Coronette scene. The more important is the Fireside Chat, where there is an incredible monologue by Henry. Yeah, he flubs a line, but it could have been easily fixed in post. They decided it was unnecessary, but tell that to the thousands of comments they got after people saw it and screamed "Why cut it? It's perfect".
I was so mad they cut it because it felt *needed* to explain why Alex was so confident telling Henry he loved him on the floating platform; the fireside scene made you understand why he thought Henry would be okay hearing it!~

RW&RB is a good movie. Check out The Idea of You. It stars Nicholas Galitzine, who plays Henry, he stars with Anne Hathaway. I considered them as co-leads in that film.
In The Mood for Love is an absolutely beautiful movie! I'm not sure about it as a "reaction" movie but I highly recommend checking it out on your personal time. Its cinematography alone inspired countless movies all across the world. (The scenes with Waymond where Evelyn is a movie star in Everything Everywhere All At Once is a reference to that movie. ❤)
I started to watch your channel because of your videos for Hazbin and then Helluva, stayed for the bear and now we’re here ❤ I would really recommend you to watch Heartstopper as well!!! It’s a really great and wholesome queer show and it stars Joe Locke (the one that plays 'Teen' in the new Agatha show) as one of the main characters. It’s one of my favourite series of all time and I think you would really enjoy it ❤
God I needed a happy movie so much, and I’m so happy queer people have gotten a totally standard classic Rom Com. The cast acted the shit out of this, they brought everything to make this glow with euphoria. I agree, moving, heartwarming, teary. I want that safe world too.

Also funny thing about the king. The actor who plays it is actually gay, which makes it a lot funnier to me. And in the book it was actually a Queen, not a King, but when they started filming they decided to change it out of respect for Queen Elizabeth, but she passed and so when the movie released Charles was already king, so the change was for nothing hahaha Theres quite a bit of stuff that got changed from the book, which is a pity because we lost some characters and some better storylines, but alas. Great movie still ❤

I totally agree with your assessment. Movie's weakest moments are when it indulges in the corny tropes and cliches, but it rises far above that on the strength of the story and characters. Ultimately powerful and moving.
oh yeah, their chemistry in this movie is off the charts. you should look at some interviews of the Zachary and Nicholas; that chemistry translates outside of the movie as well. I'm so surprised to see you reacting to this film and glad you enjoyed it! if you liked this, I think you'll really enjoy Heartstopper.
I'd love a sequal with this movie and the second term for the american president with Henry and Alex both being out and proud and together maybe as a conflict the old love interest from high school for Alex shows up or one for Henry back in his english boarding school days with Henry Showing Alex his favorite spots around England an Europe! Plus I just want more of them together! The chemistry between the two actors makes this a believeable love story and it's become my most recent obcession since it's release!
It was announced actually that the author is writing the screenplay for a sequel to the film! She’s not penning one for the book unfortunately though, just the movie.
Call me a romantic, but I genuinely loved this movie; this along with Heartstopper and Young Royals, amazing series that I highly recommend if you haven’t seen them, helped me come to terms with my bisexuality. I’ve read the book, the collection edition, and I’ve seen the deleted scenes which are amazing. I’m so excited for the sequel that’s coming! Now all we need is a Broadway-West End bound musical. I watched the movie then watched about 1000 reaction too it. I was obsessed. I found some random lady reading the book on Spotify, listen to her read it about 6x. Then I bought a used copy of the book on amazon and read it 4x. This book got me into reading. This book and movie is my Roman Empire.

Beautiful reaction. It really is a good movie. For a man like me, who was a teenager in the 80s when it was illegal to be gay, this made me cry not just get emotional. I hope the second one is just as good or it will be very disappointing.

I love this movie because queer films are so rarely happy endings - and they're so rarely neat, tied-up-with-a-bow, rose-colored glasses, hallmark joy happy endings. It's so lovely that we have this! I was happy to hear several weeks ago that a sequel has been given the green light. My husband and I become tired of the unoriginal material that comes out of Hollywood, do we really need a “Ghostbusters 5”? But for this film, I really do want to see their story continue. I know this is a bit morbid, but what if the brother is tragically killed before he produces an heir? Wouldn’t that be a kick in the trousers?
