I wear my redwings and Schott jacket when I ride my Indian scout bobber. Haven’t seen anyone cooler than me. Makes me smile when I see someone else wearing redwings around town
It pretty much summarises how I feel about thursdays vs red wing in general too. Which is a bit of a shame because I really like how Thursdays look. I would totally pay the Iron Ranger price for Thursdays captains if they were made on par with rangers.
I picked up a pair of iron rangers about a year ago. I was surprised how well they fit, the heel is slim which I like and there is room in the vamp area for my toes. The break in period was pretty painless, they broke in pretty fast with no blisters or sore feet. I really like these boots, it made it into my weekly rotation so they see action at least once a week. My only negative is the sole, the boot lacks a midsole so it doesn't offer as much shock absorption as some of the other boots I own. I plan on remedying that problem when they wear down enough for a resole. I'm going to customizing the boot by adding a thick midsole and a vibram lug sole, that will make these boots a great hiking or walking boot. The Iron Rangers are a great looking quality boot that will hold up over time and are easily resoleable or customized. Other brands that are a little higher quality (they have a midsole so walking in them is a bit better) but also a little higher priced would be Grant Stone, Parkhurst, Truman amongst many other brands.
Love my iron rangers … I tried many others brands like Truman , grant-stones white h are great and I wear them but my iron rangers are the boot /shoe I always reach for almost daily … just can’t get enough of wearing them super light and comfortable for daily use most occasions… grant-stones are even better with tht leather midsole plus cork but iron ranger is just the go too regardless lol 💪🏽
I have hammered on these boots almost everyday for two years. The are exposed to heavy duty cleaning chemicals, raw chicken, grease, oil, water and heat. They’ve held up like a champ. I had them resoled recently with a little more flexible sole and a slightly softer heel which made them even more comfortable. I have similar cut in them like in the video and it has not been an issue at all. 100% would but them again but would have them resoled immediately for a more flexible sole and a bit softer heel as I have now.
I bought a pair of USA custom-made to my foot Peter Limmer & Sons hiking Boots in 1995. 3.2 mm one piece Chrome tan leather upper with a 4 mm Oak Tanned Leather + Leather Heel Pad insole, 4 mm Leather/Latex Comp + 3mm Vibram Comp midsole, 8 mm Vibram Montagna Yellow Lable outsole. So far I've had them resoled 5 times since 1995. $620.00 plus the cost of 5 resoles might be a lot of money for a pair of boots but I have been wearing them almost everyday for 27 years and plan on getting 20 more years out of them. Buy a good pair of US made boots like Whites, Nicks, Adams, Peter Limmer & Sons or Wesco, yes it's going to be $550 to $700 but for 40 years or more of luxurious comfort you can't go wrong.
I love to watch Red Wing boot reviews. This was a really good one. I started gathering Red Wing boots last year. Eleven pair so far (Beckmans, Iron rangers, Blacksmiths, Merchants, 1907). I love all of them :-). More to come. I feel these will last me a life long and they’ll look only better with age.
Nice review guys. Proud owner of the same pair and I just adore mine! I think the IR’s in black are criminally underrated. I also have the IR’s in the much more popular Amber Harness, but I actually like these better. You guys are telling the truth. Some paid sponsored channels (that I like) lie about how great Thursday boots are and that they are 300-400 dollar boots sold at $200. Bull crap. I have a pair of Thursday Captains (which I do like for what they are), but the IR’s run absolute circles around them in terms of quality and construction. I appreciate you guys calling out the facts. I would implore spending an additional 150 and getting the IR’s. No contest. Here is another important aspect. Thursday’s can be resoled as we know. The question is, are they WORTH doing so? Not in my opinion. IR’s, no doubt about it. For boots that will last you a lifetime, it’s worth the price tag all day long.
Had my 8085 IR 3 yrs resold um Twice so comfy just like me vans boots 🥾 so if anyone is reading this Treat yourself before Winter from across the pond MANCHESTER ENGLAND 🏴 a boot for life 👌👌👌👌👌
Brackets = speed hooks. Hard to beat an icon like these. Watch for 2nds and you'll pay far less for a boot with very minor cosmetic flaws. Sierra trading currently have the 8111's for $205.
That's where I got my third pair of iron rangers. I sold my first ones because they were too big. Kind of like this guy who bought the size 8.5 and were too big. I got 8 and found my perfect fit. I'm still waiting on my order, anxious to what I'll find with the factory seconds lol.
Just picked up my IR 8084 yesterday. I was looking for a boot i can wear everywhere everyday. On stage and walking around europe. Pretty tight on my one foot right now! Harder to wear on the second day and hoping they srretch out in width a bit, but im stoked.
I have a pair of Iron Rangers 8085. Owned mine going on 2 years now. I went backwards I sort of downgraded when I got mine. I wear Nick's boots. Mine were a gift from my girlfriend. So I keeped them. Going on 2 years now and I actually like the boot. Do I think they are better then my Nick's, no not by a longshot but it is a good boot for someone looking to dive deeper into the heritage boot world. Would I buy another pair? Yes I would, I am hopefully going to pick up a pair in the Harness Black leather. I use mine in the summer with shorts and a heavy metal band t-shirt.
hey guys, i also am a iron ranger nut i have 4 pair now, i recommend either the black iron ranger blk. harness leather, the 8085 or the 8111 or the my favorite is the 8083 hawthorne muleskinner boot. anyway guys the comment s you expressed. would be the same from me. there is nothing like the the look and feel of the red wing iron ranger. thanks guys for the video i liked it
to all the red wing Heritage collector Nuts, which i am, let’s star with that let’s get that understood rite now. Okay so if your into the Mo-toe’s aside from the 875 Moc. is the 8875 which is the Irish setter moc it is also part of the heritage collection. it has kind of a red brick color to it. it’s really nice. that’s my next moc-toe. i hope this helped anyone who wasn’t a where of this new boot.
After buying a bunch of Thursday boots, I kept looking at Iron rangers. I eventually bought these and I am getting rid of all my Thursdays, there's a big difference between them and Iron rangers. I legit doubt the the Thursday boot reviews now. They have a very high heel and they became super uncomfortable after a while, whereas iron rangers keep getting better.
I want to buy red wing iron ranger boots and i need your advice about size.I wear all my shoes and sneakers in us 9 (Dr. Martens, converse, nike, adidas, catterpilar, salomon). My foot length is 27 centimeters. Can you tell me which size fits me?People sizing down half or full size down?My foot is somewhere between a D width and an E width.Should I order US 8.5 or simply take them in my regular size US 9. I don't have the opportunity to try the boots on in the store. I plan to order them through a friend from Germany. That's why I need your help.Greetings from Serbia.
Most say half size down from a brannock device. But I sized down to 9.5 D CRTs and yea it was a bit much on the tight size. I got to go in-store though.
Red Wing and Thorogood is ano brainer for everyday boots. So many try to push Thursday itmakes me sick. Btw, im a Danner fan but Red Wing and Thorogood just trump Danner. Ive got like 30 pair of boots and most are made in USA and this is my opinion.
Hey man I’ve owned my first pair for probably 3 years now and still going strong. I also have 3 other pairs that I got on eBay used and they’re great. It’s a good way to buy great boots and save money.
Those boots are probably the most uncomfortable, tight feeling, out of the box that you can get. They take years to break in!!!!! Tell people that. Danner is way better
My 8085 felt good from day one! My heavy duty work boot is nicks builder pro, they were a little stiff for a couple of weeks but feel like slippers now! You might want to do some foot exercises or get some testosterone injections😂
Everything is great about Iron Rangers except it's ugly as hell . Literally all other work boots brand/style (Viberg, Nicks, Whites, Thursdays) spits on Red Wings' ugly AF design.
