Those type of tropical flavors in Irish whiskies develop not from anything being added, but come about from a combination of many factors. Most likely is a combination of short chain alcohol esters from the barley and the compounds developed in oak cask during long maturations. It's fairly common among them when they hit 20 years and up. Yes we do occasionally see it in the Scotch world, but it's not nearly as common. Cheers!

That's awesome Erik! I recently tried a new 21 and while it had some of the tropical notes that my older one has, the viscosity was down a notch and the rich papaya and mango were less intense, making a under-ripe pineapple note the bright star. It's still a unique and tasty Irish, but we're hoping with some air it'll balance more. Take care and cheers!

+ArtMorte - Thank you! I do add water when I feel a spirit calls for it, but usually only by the drop. I always try them first without water and then make my decision. This 12 year cs was really sweet and oily, so I didn't add water for a couple of reasons. One, I didn't want to take away from the mouthfeel, and two, I wanted to really see/feel the differences between it and the 80 proof version. Cheers!

Nice! Try the standard Redbreast 12, Lustau Edition, and maybe a Yellow Spot or Red Spot and/or the Bushmills 16 or 21. That sounds like a great "Welcome Home" to me. Thank you and cheers!

You probably heard that from me. Most Irish whiskies over 18-20 years old pick up tropical notes. In the Scotch world it’s hit and miss. So it’s probably best to stick with the older Irish if that’s the profile you’re searching for. Cheers!

I enjoyed Redbreast Lustau, and thought it was a solid value. Sadly, I haven’t added a bottle of it to the collection, but if I do, I’ll see if I can review it. Cheers!

+LiquorHound Ah ok. The Teeling SM 15y and the 14y Single Cask should be amazing but I haven't tasted them yet. I also wanna buy a bottle of Yellow Spot bc I really liked the Green Spot.

I'd still go with the CS over the 15. Another one to consider is the Lustau version. It may be even thicker than the CS. Hopefully one day you'll try the 21, because it's stunning! Santa Teresa 1796 was one of my very first rum purchases and I do enjoy it. Cheers!

Thanks! I'd say on mine, the "unmalted-ness" doesn't come through nearly as much on the 15 as the 12's. The 15 seemed heavy and I believe the one I own had a twinge of sulfur from the oloroso cask, which covered that note. Percentage wise they don't say, so my guess is as good as yours. Cheers!

The Yellow Spot and Powers St Johns Lane are consistently highly rated.They would also be classic Pot Still Irish whiskeys like the Redbreast range.

Being that I have the RB 12 yr and like it, which would be your next bottle from the following 3. RB cask strength, RB 15 yr or Bushmills 16 yr. Thanks

Of my two bottles, I'd probably go with Redbreast 21, but if the Bushmills 21 is fairly less expensive, I'd be happy with it. Cheers!

I wouldn’t say the 12 Cask Strength has “bite”, but rather “it’s full of flavor”. As for whiskies without “bite”, stick to lower proof bottlings (86 and below). Cheers!

+roostershooter76 - I actually just used very thin florescent strip lighting from Lowe's or Home Depot (I can't remember which store). It wasn't very much fun wiring them all up, but I'm happy with the results. Cheers!

It looks very nice and professional. I might try some bright LED lighting. Similar to Christmas lights but white/clear.

I've mentioned/clarified this on a few of my videos, but I usually refer to "red fruits" as a descriptor of cooked down red fruits. Meaning a combo of red berries (cherries, raspberries, strawberries) and possibly red apples and/or plums that are sauteed down to meld their flavors. Cheers!

Hello and welcome! If that’s the case, I recommend staying at 80 proof. If you feel like venturing out from Tullamore Dew, the Redbreast 12 would be nice or you could try Green Spot. Cheers!

Besides my other recommendations in my last reply, you could explore low-proof Canadian Whiskies since they’ve always prided themselves on being “smooth”/easy drinking. Cheers!

@@LiquorHound funny enough, I have. When I lived in Alaska one of my neighbors had a "problem" with McNaughton and offered me drinks of that all the time and boy oh boy was that ever smooth. On another note, I bought a bottle of what you recommended but haven't opened it because I saw a later video, rather, I later saw one of your videos reviewing Green Spot and saying it had black licorice notes in it, which I couldn't hate a particular taste more than black licorice so ill probably never open it. I spent the remainder of my years allowance on the Tullamore since its a safe bet. I'll definitely try the redbreast next year though, that sounds very nice.
