for the “girls supporting girl” story: my favorite thing that i saw is “I won’t be best friends with every girl, but i will never leave a girl alone with a sketchy guy,” and i totally agree with that. my childhood bully sucks as a person, but i would never leave her in an unsafe situation if i had a choice.

To comment on the second story, as a fat person: Your friends already know you’re fat, even when you’re clothed. And if they are really your friends, they don’t judge you for it. Breaking up thru text can also be a deterrent to more fighting. Or even manipulating. maybe she knows if she does it to his face she may lose her nerve. Maybe she's worried about a bad reaction. So many valid reasons to part thru text. I've done it and would do it again in the same scenario

The person in the first example, I'm proud of them for breaking up with that guy who was angry about making them coffee.. Too often I see people who are hopeless romantics settle for someone who isn't, and that can be okay, but that person had so much love and effort to give (all those notes? so cute) and if it's not returned there's definitely a guy out there who LOVES that stuff and does it back

I gained 30lbs due to cancer treatments two years ago. I am slowly losing the weight but my husband has continued to consistently tell me I’m beautiful. I’m about to have to go in for a double mastectomy because my cancer is back. Surgery is Tuesday. I know my husband will still be here telling me I’m beautiful even though I won’t see it.

I think text message breakups are a godsend because people can go completely off the rails. Being out of arm's reach gives them a nuclear cool down moment. An email might be better (How I offloaded my 5 rabid wolverines in a 60 year old woman's body much older than I sister)

I had someone end a 5 year relationship with me via a 1am text message, so normally text breakups make me bristle, but sometimes there are people who won't hear it if you tell them to their face or will try to negotiate and get you to take your words back, which I've also had happen. So yeah, sometimes texting is the best way to get your point across.

I agree your partner should be your best friend and should always be in your corner. Stop being with people you don't actually like AND respect and visa versa, stop being with people who don't like or respect you.

when i was 13 i was one of the biggest cousins on my moms side and my grandma always pointed out how big i was (she wasnt trying to be mean shes just blunt) and for years i was so insecure about my belly and my weight has fluctuated alot at my skinniest i was 145 lbat my heaviest i was 200 lb i remember one day i went to grab some oreos and my dad had made a comment he never said anything before about my looks until then and it broke me. he apologized profusely when he realized i was upset but that damage is still with me even when my friends and family say im beautiful or strangers tell me i have nice skin all i can focus on is my weight and if my belly is too noticeable. words have an impact be smart about what you say

I honestly think that text message breakups are ok. Because a lot of time people are able to work through their feelings and say exactly what they mean in writing rather than in person. In person it’s easy for the other person to interrupt you or you get distracted or get too nervous to say what you want. There’s no shouting to be had when texting and there is also a less chance for someone to guilt you into staying in a relationship that you really don’t want too. Talking my on the phone fa also have more of an impact as well since you could start shouting and often times words spoken hits a bit harder. Of corse this can be a situational thing where braking up in person could be the best. Not sure what taht would be, since I’m one where it’s easier for me to write everything out and not be face to face. (Plus I’ve been in relationships in the past where in person breakups were not going to be the best just because of how the other would react.)

Related to the second story; a few months ago my own mother told me that I’ve gained weight and that my stomach looks fat and since then I felt so bad about it that I was too insecure to wear anything that shows my stomach even though I literally gave birth 8 months ago and it’s totally normal to not look the same after. I know she didn’t mean it in a bad way but it stuck to me and it probably always will.

My ex husband fat shamed me. This was after i had ny daughter. My realization he married me was because of my body. I was very slim and fit. After i had her, my body refused to let the fat go. He fat shamed me while he was overweight himself. I never judged him because of his weight. I remember thinking he wasn't my type. Looking back,he loved b0mbed me and ect. I fell in love with a fake person. His family warned me about him. I should have listened. My ex husband was a monster and still is to this very day. He's a narcissist. I left him permanently in 1999. Never looked back. The thing he said to me the day i left still rings true. Noone can love you like i can. He was right. His love for me was nonexistent.

That second story really hits... I remember for a long time, I felt like I was disgusting. I don't remember when it started, but my mom constantly reminded me of my weight and how unattractive it was. My friends were tying their shirts to expose their midriff because crop tops were super popular, and my friend tied mine since I couldn't figure it out. When my mom saw, she started scolding me, telling me I'll be bullied if I wore anything like that. She wouldn't let me do it anymore, and my friends were pissed she'd be so unreasonable. This moment had been stuck in my mind for a long time, up until her death. We moved after that, and I remember one day I saw a really cute cropped hoodie at the store. I bought it for myself, and when I looked in the mirror, it looked perfect. No one's ever made the comments my mom insisted I'd get; the only comments I've gotten have been about the colors looking great on me. And I think that's what we all should remember: most people aren't gonna care about your weight. If they do, who cares? I think the people that only care to spread negativity are the true unattractive people.

Oh boy, we’re in for a treat today

I got broken up over text and he was basically living with me. Was there 5 days a week and had a whole wardrobe at my house. He had BPD and was always hot and cold. Hot when we were together but then when he'd be at work he'd text me second guessing our relationship. Never felt bad for hurting my feelings and had zero empathy. We talked about how perfect we were for each other and we were gonna be together forever and then out of nowhere i get dumped over text with a "can you put all my stuff in a bag?" I didnt. I cried the whole time he was there packing his stuff up. I lost my job 2 months ealier and that was pretty much his reason for dumping me. I lost a job i loved and had for 5 years and was going through one of the worst times of my life and he didnt care when i said that this was when i needed him the most. Im still hung up on him over a year later 🥺 yea i know, im pathetic.

Literally, I'm the second woman. I'm 4'10. I've been 98-100s for so long. Last few years I also gained 45-50lbs and it does show on our little bodies, but holy fuck. 145 isn't "fat." I really wish she could see this comment (or anyone else with similar body types for that matter.) I know first hand you got a little pudge and nothing more. And you're cute as hell and I know it. I had a boyfriend in my early twenties that everytime we would have something great going, a new milestone, meeting the old college friends, the parents liking me and wanting me to spend every Sunday with their family, he would freak out, cause a fight so outrageous that i would break up with him, so he could be peter pan man child forever, then would look at me like i was the crazy one, like why dont you want to stay on this roller coaster with me? We broke up once right after a weekend stay at a bed and breakfast where he proposed and then asked to slow down literally two weeks later. We had been dating like 2 years at that point. I had started looking at dresses and he was like jk. After i moved on and got married he kept calling and i yelled at him, leave me alone and give me a chance to be happy. Never heard from him again. Been married 11 years now, and have a 5 year old with my husband. Dont let peter pan waste your best years. I would have wasted less time and 2 1/2 years if i just sent a break up text and left it at that.
