Another theme you could add to the starters is the modern industry as the grass starter could be electricity, fire is pollution and/or farming, and the water starter is sewers and water systems.

True..the reat one especially as it just looks like a different colored fatter version of the middle and first form. I like the beta version of the 2nd form where it got looong but instead they all got squished down and look practically the same rat balls.

Oh gosh, I wasn't ready for the name Lactoast. As of first stages, I picked Plantot, and I reckon I stick with that having seen the final evos. Though the fire one is my favourite of the middle stages. Really nice work man! Makes me want to go back and redesign my childhood starter Pokemon.

So... I love the idea but if I would change it att all... I would maybe bring out the food elements in the last bull evolution a bit more... maybe by giving him "grill lines" like a steak or burger... Love Rattap though would defs be my starter... reminds me of a type of swamp rat called a nutria! Which are mostly aquatic rodents~ Great designs in general~

I loved the beard on Rataps final, especially since Grass and Fire also have something around their throat/neck (Which would unify the starters even more). You could even made it so the beard has steel like features (Since so far, nothing about it screams Steel type to me). I feel like the beard would also make it look like a final evolution more so, especially since it looks middle stage, compared with the other 2 who look like final stages. I hope you keep the Terrapin inspired Pokemon. Maybe turn it into a Water/Fire type (Maybe instead of a toaster, you can make it a kettle like Pokemon).

Honestly I love the sketches before the final product. Especially with the water starter’s final evo. The neck was longer, and that made it look mor like it was in a pipe(which I liked). And that was lost in the final draft when it’s arms were brought up. It just looked more busy and had less character. Great work making the original designs work more

@Aidan Pickard I didn't actually think about that... Especially when you then think about Shrubolts ability to turn into Grass/Ground type with the zen ability - Ratank would only be weak to both Shrubolts Grass/Ground types, while Shrubolt would take neutral damage from Water, resist Electric and then have complete immunity once grounded. You're right, I suppose the original typing does make more sense!

I wanna see gigantamax forms rather than mega evolutions. I wanna see the grass starter to be a GIGANTIC pot covered in amber and electricity, the fire starter to be an Ox with a bigger furnace slapped into it and the water line to be a gigantic washing machine and multiple ratap, ratoosh inside and outside it

New ratap is amazing! Also all the thought that went into boviee, the second stage ox! The grass type line second zen mode-style ability is genius. There’s something I love about every trio. Having seen the final starter forms though, I’d have to pick the fire line as my favorite.

Love the redesigns, team Rattap all day, but the secondary typing throws me a bit, the second cycle is broken and makes the grass starter a bit weaker. I dunno, typing is hard

The Electric Type gives it another advantage. Water is weak to Electric and Steel is neutral to Electric so that makes Ratank weak to Electric

i feel like these guys would lend themselves really well to gigantamax forms, with what theyre based on. I think a tap into a fountain, a furnace into a factory and a plant pot into a whole garden would really work :)

Actually, maybe a toaster into a microwave, then an oven, then gigatimax into a giant furnace that immediately has the sun come out right when it gigatimaxs although I dont think the toaster into a microwave into an oven would make much sense.

Man the new Plantot line is so clever. Cuz Amber was long thought to hold electrical properties. The Oxen have no concept, aside from the Methane thing, but that’s only shown in the final form. They’re just an animal with a type, which is a sign of a badly designed Pokémon. The Ratap line is quite boring. If you wanna go with the clothing angle, make that a tad more obvious. Give it fur that resembles a raincoat or something, maybe add rubber as a theme or something.

Thank you for the feedback! Did not know that about amber, fantastic! Probably should've pushed it more, but the idea behind the Ox is food going bad, hence why the snout turns black and the poisonous fumes. I like the Ratap line, to each their own I guess. A rat in a trench coat sounds too much like the anthro issue I have.

I love these starter pokemons new designs!! but I will say the Tube limbs with electricity in it on the old designs for your grass starters looked very cool. and while I don`t know what fakemon you have, maybe you could re use this idea on any of your electric types(if you have any)

12:50 I suggest going down the root of freeze dry and make an electric move that is also super effective against bug types. Would fit the pokemon better than having its signature being a mix fire and electric move. That is more like hawlucha’s flying press which represents both their typings.

I love how Gen 9 was just like "All those fan theories about theming each type? They're wrong." Folks will still try to stretch it, but they're purely stretches at this point. Especially the Fire Type Zodiac theory. But the starter trio theming is definitely there; they're all entertainment again. Magician, Singer, and Dancer.

I start with fire being the coolest ox. I changed to the plant on evolution. And back to the ox on final evolution.

I originally guessed that the theme would be that they are all based on animals that were changed because of humans. Oxen are just trained cows, The plant is hiding in a man-made pot, and rats usually live off of a human’s leftovers.

Amazing video. Great designs. I absolutely love that you explained your design process. These starter fakemon look great. I have a hard time choosing between them all though I would pick the plant for my starter. The rat final didn't deviate as much from the first stage as I was expecting but still turned out way better than I thought. I also think the ox mane going super saiyan could have carried over to the final in some way. I like the eyes being covered on the ox too. This honestly makes me want to design some fakemon. Every time I try, I end up not liking the way mine turn out and I think this video gave me some ways to push my designs.

Not gonna lie, I really like the original designs for the Rattap line and Shrubbolt. But you absolutely nailed each of the redesigns. I'd pick the Plantot line, but I must stress that's a veeerrry close call.

Maybe that Zen Mode idea could be a hidden ability that all 3 lines shared. Not only would Plantoss flip over for higher defense at 25% health or something, but Angrill's upright hair and increased attack would happen then too.

Edit: updated my comment while watching. Saw your short and it made me laugh so I came to check out your channel. Damn bro these designs are fine! I love each of the final products they're fabulously done. Keep up the great work! An idea for the fire starter name. Toaoxin. My choices before the evos revealed would be Plantot Ratap Lactoast When I got to middle evos I still felt happy with my choices. I think these are better 2nd evos than a lot of Pokemon, love them! Shrubbolt is so perfect. I absolutely love the idea for the zen mode, its such a great idea and really gives him a lot of character. I could see how it would be weird on a starter but eh maybe it's time to spice up what a starter mean XD I love the Toast Ox line so much. After seeing the final evo I do waiver in my conviction for the Plantot line but I don't know if I'd switch, Plantot too damn cute

These starters are really cool and I adore all them so much so that I don't which I would choose as all of them look pretty awesome and creative, I love how the Grass Starter is full on a plant and I like how charming the Fire Starter is and overall this Fire Starter is a Fire Bolvine that I actually find really cool and unique, and with Water Starter, I love how it goes for a less obvious approach with a Rat and still fits along how official Water Starters look to be based around amphibious critters as Rats are skilled swimmers(being able to effortlessly swim for up to 3 days) I also noticed another theme that the starters carry that may or may not have came into your mind which is that each the Starters carry a theme of being in some way, based around Household Objects

A name for the fire starter could be oomber. I know it sounds weird, but I’ll explain. Replace the oo with an e and you get ember. Ember = small flames, early stage fire starter. Also oom is Moo spelled backwards. So you can spell moo and ember using the letters in its name

The shinys Planttot: the greenish pot turns dirt brown because well pots are mostly brown and it looks like dirt. Laktost: the yellow patches turn dark gray to look like it’s burnt out. Ratap: the black turns green like moss or disease

you know, ratap's water faucet design could also make for a good machine gun theme think about it, shower heads usually have multiple selections on how to spray water, so ratank should have a way to either shoot water all at once or in rapid shots like a machine gun

I may be way over a year late, but I've got just the perfect renames for the whole Ratap line. Ratap shall be renamed as Mizumi, from *mizu* and *nezumi* (Japanese words for "water" and "mouse" respectively). It also sounds like 'mini', which is fitting given that it's a young rat. As for Ratouche (didn't even know the word 'douche' until now), it should be Pipesqueak, as it's a *pipsqueak* (an insignificant thing) that has a *pipe* for a tail and *squeaks* like a rat. Last but not least, Ratank, who shall now be known as... Laundrodent! From *laundry* and *rodent.* This was originally gonna be Hydrodent, but I found out that name has already been used for another Fakémon. Again, this video is like over a year ago, so I dunno if this'll get any recognition, let alone appreciation. Hope you like the new names anyway!

I think that the ability thing with the grass starter could be a move instead; maybe has a unique move that allows them to lose the electric type and get rooted by a determinated number of turns.

Yes Gigantopithecus is a form of ape but that’s a helluva stretch to try and pin it on a specific extinct ape genus that little is known about Always hate the Fire thing because it gets people unironically calling a weird echidna/hedgehog/stoat/badger chimera a rat and a fox a dog. Have these people seem rats or dogs at any point in their lives? Chameleons so don’t exclusively live underwater they aren’t even semi aquatic lol. And wait a second Axolotls are amphibians but axolotls are actually a fully aquatic species...but they’re probably more mudskipper than axolotl anyways. I feel like once upon a time musing on the patterns was fun but especially after Gen 8 where a normal Gorilla and a Chameleon utterly shatter the patterns we gotta accept that even if there was once a thing it’s not something even GF cares about now. And I was gonna say “It’s useful for people who have literally no ideas” but especially on the fire one that might actually hurt them since every one of the few remaining ones has been so heavily milked.

Cheers for the comment! Sure, Gigantopithecus is a stretch, but so is Beelzebufo for Bulbasaur and Ankylosaurs for Turtwig. Could argue that Grookey is also based off of Neanderthals/Cavemen, with the wild hair and them using sticks to smack things with. If the Fire Chinese Zodiac theory is incorrect, why have Game Freak been following it instead of making Fire starters that are based off of any other animals? Last time I checked Tigers weren't native to Hawaii, unlike the Stilt Owl and certain species of seal. They could've literally based it off of any other animal (eg. a volcano turtle, fire ant, literally any of the six animals that weren't remaining on the calendar - Nothing to say that the starters HAVE to be based off their geographical region, just stood out to me). The fact they went with a Rabbit for Galar pretty much cements it. While Typhlosion clearly is not a rat, Cyndaquil's dex species is the 'Fire Mouse Pokémon', so it's not that much of a stretch. While true that Fennekin are foxes, foxes are canids, which are part of the dog family (Canidae). Also foxes and dogs are fairly similar to glance at, not as big of a stretch as people make it out to be. There's a difference between being semi-aquatic and living somewhere exclusively. The fact is that they have not made any Water starters to be based off of fish, underwater molluscs, shrimp, sharks - the ocean is massive (obviously) and filled with numerous and absolutely bizarre creatures that could make a pretty cool starter Pokemon. While Chameleons are not in any way amphibious, this doesn't necessarily break the water trend. The trend is that they do not exclusively live underwater, which Chameleons do not, at all. Axolotls can breathe air for short periods - I was going to write Mudskipper, but opted out. Should've gone with my base instinct on that one. If in Gen 9, the starters are (for example) a Grass Type Cow (not extinct), a Fire Type Turtle (not a Zodiac), and a Water type Jellyfish (exclusively lives underwater), then we can consider the patterns broken. But yes, I do agree that the Fire limitation does make it more difficult for people to work with. Also at the end of the day, it's just a bit of fun :)

I would love to see so much more of your recreations and redesigns from your old pokedex. Mega Evolutions, Gigantamaxes, the rest of your pokedex redesigned and heck, I wouldn't mind seeing you redraw your older redesigns of pokemon like the regional bug, bird, rodent etc in your new art style. They won't be redesigned again (unless you want to), just having the drawings of the pokemon fit your updated art style. Also, i'm fairly new to your channel with the fakemon designs and i'm sort of confused about that bed monster pokemon. I get your name is DeadBedSpread so a bed monster pokemon makes sense on that but is it a pokemon in your pokedex or is it something else. I never got an answer for that. Anyways brilliant starter redesigns. I love all 3 and Lactoast's toast nose is cute and funny

You're in luck, because I plan to go through the old dex again and update everything into the new art style, regardless of if they've previously been redesigned or not - might add a few Megas and Maxes along the way ;) Dredspred (the Bedspread Pokémon) is a Fakemon I made a while back, guessing you saw it in the 6th episode of the Fakemon Reviews, or the Apoctober video (both of which were released on Halloween, hence the spooks) - I'll (eventually) get around to making a video on it and it's evolutionary family. @@DeadBedSpread Oh my gosh really? Oh I am super excited to hear that. You are one of my new favourite fakemon artists due to how creative you are. And yes, I did see Dredspred in that video since I was binge watching that series a few months ago because of how cool it is to see people evolve with their designs and concepts over time. Coincidentally, I'm actually watching your reviewing old fakemon series as i'm typing this because of how fun it is to watch. Also, thanks for the link. I'll check it out soon

I think you could use one of my gimmicks, erising.basically you use this band with a triangle to open a portal which your Pokémon go through then come out with elements from the past or future depending on which era stone is in the band

I am starting to think of my starter Pokemon and how they each have a unique theme but I will admit I love the fire starter line Zlamepup, Zlarewolf and Zirelord because they give me Zinogre vibes which is my favourite monster thus their typing being Fire/Electric even though it’s weaker to ground it has the ability levitate and a hidden ability called lord of Lightning’s howl it basically destroys mold breakers so the Pokemon is now completely immune to ground

while you were going over the original designs and their inspirations i thought about how i'd rework these personally, i didn't really get anything for toastera but for plantot i thought of a potato battery because of its electric typing and for ratap i thought of a semiaquatic rodent like a muskrat, nutria, or capybara

I picked the grass starter instantly and was satisfied with the final evolution too. I didn't realize till the end but I may have picked it because its a pot head. Honestly though great redesigns all around from how they started.
