Just love your videos Christian ! I watch many you tuber but you are one of my favourites for sure. Your videos are funny but full of info and some great plant tips for us all. You work hard at everything you do and the quality shines through always. Best wishes and thank you 👍🏼🥰🌿
Awww. Thank you so much Sally ☺️, I’ve been enjoying this plant journey and sharing through my videos because of all of you , you’re all the best crazy plant lovers out there, truly appreciate the love and support ☺️♥️
I have a marble queen and two snow queens; I can’t get enough. Such striking, intense variegation, wants for nothing and so budget friendly. Can’t be beat!
I was just about to write about Pothos. Honestly, they’re the best: fast growing, lush and unpretentious. They freaky transform a space and clean the air. And even more so, the plain old Golden Pothos is just a trooper. Neon Pothos coming in close as well
I’m guilty of not giving certain common houseplants a chance or for forgetting about them, but since I started the shop I’m falling and rediscovering my love for them again, they’re taking me back to my early plant journey years when I’d get super excited about them and the joy they bring me. 😁 What other common plants do you think I should have at home and at the shop?!
I am so in love with Aglaonemas! I only have 5 different varieties, but my dream Aglaonema is the Pictum Tricolor. I could stare at it for lengths of time. I go on Etsy everyday just to admire it. Unfortunately its out of my budget range. Would love to see that in your shop and live vicariously through you. 😊
Hi Christian, I remember you saying you don't much care for Fiddle Leaf Figs but I think they are lovely. I wish you happiness and prosperity with your shop. All the best, you're great at what you do. Thank you. 😊
@@volcanolehua Mine is giving me so many problems. Leaves shriveling up and dying daily... still beautiful but I can't get it bushy because leaves keep dying
I love my 5ft ZZ plant. Yes, I have many of the "rare" plants which I tend to collect just because they're popular but my ZZ plant has real importance to me. 🌻
I am so in love with my burgundy ficus, I celebrate every new leaf like a total dork. I love all of my plants and my kids laugh at how excited I get as they grow. I'm all about the simple joy of my common plants.
It's sooo lovely to hear you talk about how you helped someone get their first plant - and the magic of people (and yourself) falling in love with plants. Great video and great to see you open a bricks and mortar shop that connects people through plants. Brilliant work.
Hi Christian! I was just quickly trying to get an idea on propagating the rubber plant and I ran into your video. I think it's because you are so natural and shows true passion for plants i ended up watching your other videos!. I love how you have a shop for it and I can truly imagine myself perhaps if time permits to have my own. I have hundreds of succulent collection and I design arrangements for giveaways. I've also been reviving some of my clients dying plants and enjoyed landscaping and making other's front yard look like paradise😊 I find solace and peace when I am planting! Kudos to you and best of luck always..
Spider plants are definitely under rated, they add such a natural touch to whichever room you put it in. P.s. I loved visiting your store on Tues! It looked so beautiful, keep it up!
Love all your choices!👌🏽 My top 5 right now that are in our home: lemon lime philodendron, the Monstera deliciosa, stromanthe triostar, our snake plant ( trifascista), fiddle leaf fig and black cardinal philodendron. Oops thats 6 but they all are so gorgeous and hardy, I am so thankful for all our plants.🥰 I can relate to your enthusiasm!🙋🏻♀️
Love the intros…came to the comments expecting an unzip or rash joke. Thankfully a more refined community here. 👍 My favorite common house plant this year is tradescantia (in UK climate).
I think dracaenas are super underrated. I got my marginata at ikea about 8 years ago. It was a tiny thing and now it’s over 6’ tall with three heads and very long and beautiful leaves
I just “discovered” jade pothos. I’ve been on the hunt for new variegation types but fell in love with the plain green one. Plan to have it grow up a cedar board. I’m excited for your new shop and wish you the best success!
I purchased a huge hanging basket of jade from a local nursery a few months ago! I had never given it a second look before, but for some reason it caught my eye. It has nearly tripled in size already and is sitting above my kitchen cabinets. I noticed last week that it’s starting to attach its vines to the wall! So, so excited. I hope you enjoy yours!!
I have had a jade for 5 years. It kept dieing back and I almost lost it. I started watching plant videos and now it is about the size when I bought it. So I'm so glad because the green heart or arrow tip leaves are so beautiful.
Yes!! I'm collecting pothos as well and finally got a jade and I do love it so much. I've had heartleaf philo for a long time and it's wonderful to see them together. I plan to prop a pot of that so I can look at it. PS Still looking for cheap jessenia :)
I didn't know I needed a jade in my life until my marble queen gave me jade shoots that I'm now propagating in water. I'm feeling the love for this accident and can't wait to enjoy it grow.
Love watching your experience with starting a business. I remember when u 1st started your RU-vid channel & u wasn't sure what the theme was but you clearly found yiur path!
All the v best for new ventures... Love your videos.....have all five types of plants from the video......but always want more....wish I could buy from Canada... All the best once again
I love Aglaonemas! I have a cutlass and a “Chinese Evergreen.” I also have another types with pink. I also love ponytail plants. They are so beautiful!
I think the arabica coffee plant is SO gorgeous and widely available for reasonable prices, and yet I never see people hyping them. The leaves are stunningly green and glossy, the new foliage comes in bright and then deepens. The only downside I have on them is the mealy bug situation can be a thing.
Agreed!! I have a baby coffea arabica and it's honestly my favourite plant I own! The foliage is gorgeous and if you grow them long enough, you might actually get them to grow coffee berries and you can make your own coffee!! Such a wonderful plant!
Great video! :oD I just got a HUGE Black Coral snake plant last week, and I was totally in love with it at first sight! Aglaonema is on my want list, and so is Ponytail Palm.
1. Agloenema 2. Pothos 3. Boston Fern 4. Peace Lily 5. Rubber Tree My top favorite 'common' houseplant is definitely the aglaonema and I am shocked that you are just now discovering how truly beautiful they are : ) I have about 14 varieties but the silver bay remains my favorite. Next would be Pothos - any variety - find them anywhere but so easy, beautiful and fast growers. There's also something about a peace lily, though I don't have much luck keeping them happy in my home, the large leaf varieties are so lush and jungley. I only recently developed a love for rubber tree and I have the Sophia and Burgundy, but they make my list. My 5th and final would be the Boston Fern. Tough to keep happy indoors but such a lush and sexy tropical plant, I consider them my summer deck seasonal plants because they don't do well in my home over winter.
Could u do a video on the steps to opening a plant shop? (i.e. How u decided on store location, required license & permits , challenges u faced, etc). This would be helpful for those of us who also want to pursue this...
Parlor palm, spider plant, phaleanopsis orchid, thanksgiving cactus / crab cactus, dragon tree. These are all so easy to grow and have unique features that add so much interest to a plant collection.
Awww, how exciting! People purchasing their first houseplant 🥰, that gives me the warm fuzziest! I have always wanted a ponytail palm! I have to admit that any plant with that look, long thin leaves, palms, spider plants make me walk away. When I was a child, young 6-7 years old, my Grandmother had a huge spider plant! It was hanging in an east facing window in her living room. Being an only child, it wasn't a blast going there, other than to see Koko her standard Poodle. 😔 Sigh. It somehow always became my job to cut the brown tips off of the Spider plant. It was fine, Koko would stay by my side. He didn't care about plants. It was all well and good until she would come in and tell me to cut off the crispy babies and cut brown tips on the babies. I ended up crying every time. I was able to hold it in until I got home, thankfully. I must have PTSD. I may just try a ponytail now, Thank you, Christian!!😁😘.
Wow Christian even though I am a fan from afar (San Diego) and I hope to support your shop in the future, I am so proud of you!!! Thank you for your inspiration & sharing all of your knowledge with us. Ficus is one of my all time favs- top 3 for sure 😁
So happy for you and your new journey!! I started my shop back in April and I love sharing the excitment of getting a new or even first plant with my customers as well! It brings me so much joy when they send me photos weeks or months later to show me how well it's doing, a new bloom or leaf. Snake plants for sure are at the top of my common plants list! Followed by marantas, any full vining pothos or philo, syngonium and good ol' scindapsus exotica
Hey Christian 🤗 I have a dieffenbachia Camille and a Tiki! The one you have is cool and a has some similarities to the Tiki. Mine are loving leca and send out crazy leca roots! I was literally just looking into aglaonemas, I'm trying to find the tricolor, looks like Camo! Love snake plants, I have the regular Zeylanica (I think?) It came from Walmart and was a tad greener than I think it's supposed to be. I also have a black coral, a Whitney, moonshine, and Futura Superba, and Laurentii (the green striped one with the yellow border). Just love the way they grow pups. I have ficus elastica tineke, but it put out one leaf since I've got it and has not done a single thing since ARGH! I think the only plant that I was into was the ponytail palm. Ps: I love your ta-das! And your hilarious intros! 🇨🇦😁🌿
I commented about your hair the other day. I just realized it was because you always wear a hat. Ha!! I am obsessed with the SOH. But just moved to a bigger place and now really able to see plants individually and not just a mass of green.I am also currently intrigued by the orchid cactus!
My marble queen pothos is incredibly beautiful, so that's my first choice for sure. Agleonema silver queen is a stunner as well. I have a gorgeous sansivieria green hahnii that almost looks black. I looove tradescantias, especially the zebrina😍😍😍 you can find a monstera deliciosa almost everywhere, and it's really pretty in my opinion. I only have a few uncommon plants, most of them are common, and I'm not mad at all, they can be just as beautiful and they are so much easier to take care of
Loved this video! I have a lot of rare plants, but I get the most joy from my aglaonemas, snake plants, pothos, ficus, deliciosa and jade. They are all so easy and look just as pretty as the more rare ones! Congrats on your store, wishing you much success💚
You have changed my mind re ponytail palm. I think I will try 1. I've never had good luck w/palms...this being a succulant I feel confident to keeping it alive! I also have the same diffenbachia. It is absolutely beautiful.
Great video Christian, I love my Balfour Aralia right now she is about 2 feet tall, I got her as a cutting I rooted, so it's taken her at least 3 years to grow from 4 " to 2 feet. Glad your shop is doing well.🎉
Great video! I have a nice big super common snake plant I nabbed for $15 on the clearance rack at a big box store. I love how it adds a nice big pop of jungle and it’s super easy to care for. I also have a ficus burgundy that’s one of my favorites. If I had the space I would love to get one of every variety of ficus elastica.
There are so many varieites now of these older more common plants. I have an ultimate wish list with a lot of the more expensive/rare plants, but I also have a wish list of more common but hardly in the store plants. I just find it so hard to spend crazy money on the really expensive trendy plants, when for what I would spend on one small plant and baby it for months, I can buy 5-6 of these older varieties. Seems so much of the rare plant prices are driven by instagram and bragging rights. But when you really step back these more common plants can be just as showy. One of my favorite Dieff. is my Sterling, grows well, and is a dark green with stone white veins. Love my Ctenanthe, have a Amigris, Carl Marx and Setosa, allmost as pretty as the fancy calatheas, without being such divas. Also Purple Velvet plant, old fashioned, but gives you that great purple color, velvet texture and grows like a weed.
Your channel originally got me really into the trailing plants. My favorites are the plain green heartleaf philodendron and my neon pothos but I will always love lucky bamboo and I think it's highly underrated
The only one I don't have is the palm. The others I have different varieties, I have 10 Dracaena (Sanseveria) just one Ficus, a Tineke. She is my newest plant baby. I have a few Aglaonema as well. LOL I can't afford the fancy plants right now. I love Crotons as well, I find them to be very pretty with their varied colours on their leaves.
Hi I'm Lisa love your channel. I had the dieffenbachia Memoria Corsll it was massive but I was told to let it dry out completely it slowly died I have a small piece of pt left trying to bring it back to life I just got the Amy its so beautiful, also I have a cutlass but mine is the white stem one I want the one you have love the cutless also have Black coral sansevieria love it also and the ponytail palm trying not to kill it lol . watering is the problem afraid I will over water it . thanks for sharing your beautiful plants
I love the dumb cane ! I have just one called reflector and now I know why mine has a little bit of yellowing even I am not overwatering. I am pretty inconsistant with my watering and let it dry out to much.
Hands down the least spoken about or mentioned is Ivy. They come in so many varieties and sizes and leaf shape - they trail, they climb, you can prune them to be bushy. If you like variegation, neon, unusual leaf shapes ; easy to access and super affordable - Ivy's got you. Variegated Algerian ivy is my current favorite - big fat leaves, generous growth and consistent gorgeous colors with with relatively low light requirement. There's so many different kinds that it's easy to feel like you have a one of a kind plant.
The place I live is dry n hot...tried growing scindapsis n philodendron micans n P neon ...but gave up...aglaonema's do really great with no care n I have bunch of these lush plants....I really appreciate that people have started liking common easy to grow plants....infact I prefer growing plants depending on the conditions they thrive well....I keep rotating my plants...in n out.....n they like it
My husband use to work in the plant area of the Opryland hotel in Nashville and he took care of orchids and al types of plants. He will not get a dieffenbachia plantain to being toxic to animals but he said the sap can burn you as well. I think the are very pretty though.
