There are three different refrigerator containers: 53’ reefer container, 20ft reefer container, and 40 ft reefer container. These refrigerated containers are a low-cost alternative for customers since it is already insulated.
These shipping containers are great to modify for container homes, offices, hunting shack cabins, air compressors, tool cribs, master control rooms, etc.
I will explain why 53’ refrigerated containers are the best option for your next container modification project.

Thanks for the great video. I'm wondering how watertight those riveted exterior sidings are. Are they just riveted or there is some sort of caulking in the riveted joints?

I'm looking for an older 20-32' reefer that the compressor doesn't wok so I can convert it into a cold storage room/butcher shop using a coolbot. I found a 48' this week in Columbus Ohio I have to go look at next week. A little larger than I wanted... but I think it will work!?

You mentioned about not screwing conduit and such directly to the FRP, is there some type of wall stud on the inside that can be used for mounting purposes? When you cut holes for windows and doors, is there any type of structural reinforcement that needs to be applied or is that not necessary since the entire wall is a structural component due to being completely filled already? Sorry if the questions seem weird but I am considering using a reefer truck body as the base of an overland camping rig for the reasons you mentioned in your video. They are already finished and fully insulated on the inside, and I would just need to add windows. My concern with cutting window holes was that it would weaken the wall structure and need to be framed somehow. The t-floor looks like it already provides areas for cable runs and mounting points for cabinets, etc that would otherwise need to be added in a regular van, etc when doing the conversion. Thanks in advance for your help.

@@TheContainerGuyTVOkay. Might as well. I’ve already been binging on your channel because I am interested in the tiny home movement and would like to one day tackle a conversion of my own. Lol! Love all the ideas, tips and general info and especially nice that you are also in Canada (I’m in Ottawa, Ontario myself) which in some cases can be a real bonus in terms of relevancy to any instances where there might be specific issues and/or challenges we could possibly encounter or have to mitigate/consider in regards to converting a container into something legitimately useful depending upon the specific challenges that can come with doing so. All jokes and silliness aside (I’m referring to myself) I am grateful for your experience and willingness to share your extensive knowledge. Thank you and God bless

Sounds good. We might be building a gym for the police out of a 53' ex-reefer with all of the above and I'll make sure the film crew covers it. We have an inexpensive & easy to install framing kit for windows on reefers. We typically use the same man door that I have posted a video on already. If you need something asap, send us an e-mail and I can help out. Stay tuned. Better stuff to come shortly.

Hello. If you send me an email to mods@thecontainerguy.ca, I'll send you some pictures of a window flashing we use for aluminum insulated reefers. We actually have a few kits in stock and they fit in a slender box. If you're okay with 40" wide by 30" tall windows, we could ship them to you. If you already have windows then you could get your own made locally.

That's an amazing idea. There's 3.5" of foam underneath so no worry about heat loss below and PEX lines would fit perfectly in the aluminum T-slot floor. Would be cool to pour a concrete slab on top. I want to try this.

Do you think a reefer is better for my application? I want to use the container to house tropical fish that I breed. The container company I'm dealing with recommended a Reefer as it would be cheaper then insulating / framing a standard 40hc and already setup for how I'd like it used. Since there isn't much information on this particular use I've been following house / office builds. While the reefer may not look as nice it seems like it might actually be more practical. My only real concerns going with a reefer is it's designed to be more air tight so less air flow and of course a used reefer may not look as nice as a 1 trip container but can always spend a little and fix it up aesthetically. Thanks for your time. Been watching lots of your videos.
@TheContainerGuyTV
@TheContainerGuyTV 11 месяцев назад

Brand new enquirer. Are REEFER units as sturdy as Regular containers?
@philnorman9425
@philnorman9425 Год назад
They will be sturdier than a GP cont. The external skin is attached to the frame as is the internal skin = twice as much skin tension/strength + the high density foam also provides rigidity.

I have a 40’ reefer with the back unit removed. What would you recommend to recap it? I am thinking of putting sheet metal on the back and wood frame with insulation, then some plywood on the inside.
@TheContainerGuyTV
@TheContainerGuyTV Год назад
We use cut-outs from other reefer mods. Assuming you don't have that, if you do sheet metal on the outside, tight fitting 2" rigid foam, then finish the interior however you please. Foam is the important part. The inside and outside finish is up to you. Don't frame with wood unless you're framing a false wall inside of the 2" rigid foam.
@BigMikeWin
@BigMikeWin Год назад
I’m putting 2 window units on that wall. Should I use something else?
@TheContainerGuyTV
@TheContainerGuyTV Год назад
@@BigMikeWin I would frame on the other side of the rigid foam then install your windows against the foam and use 3.5" screws through the nailing flange of the window into the studs. Keep a constant foam air barrier.
