iirc they made it so whenever an overheight vehicle is detected the light turns red so they’d turn but they usually just speed up for a cleaner peel

Even before the bridge was raised, I can't recall many trucks that got peeled _and_ got stuck. Usually they peel and then are able to clear no problem, or they get stuck on the barrier. We got a double-treat on this one~

The overheight detector is set to turn the traffic lights red for overheight vehicles. If every driver that wrecks there doesn't get a ticket for running a red light, on top of any other penalty, _plus_ needing to find another job, they should consider themselves lucky!

It seems like there is a lot more hits around the time the nearby university starts/stops classes. I could see several things with that possibly happening: people unfamiliar with the area are moving in/out, maybe there is more new/temp commercial drivers in the area for seasonal load (before classes start and first weeks likely have way above average shopping/restocking), people with large recreational vehicles now having some time for on vacation, school/businesses/city use downtime between classes to start projects (which large components and heavy equipment may be brought from out of area).

Legitimately the only channel actually worth having notifications on.

Quite a few of these are not professional drivers.

Almost all drivers are incompetent. We kill ~40K people per year son the road, and injure >5 million enough to be medically consulted. Some are permanent. Government doesn't seem to give a shit either. It's up to every one of us to do better. Obey every traffic law all the time. Get a driver's license manual and read it again no matter how long you've been licensed. You'll be surprised by the knowledge (that you probably forgot) you find in those pages, all designed to keep us safe.

Most of the box trucks are rentals -- people moving furniture and the like. Most professional truck drivers have a GPS system these days that navigates them around the bridge. If it's a 16 wheeler it's a professional. So the guy who lost both of his stacks a couple years ago was a pro, but that's a rare occasion.

Its more like the guy screwed up by hitting his brakes as he went under. The shifting weight raised his truck's rear by at least a beautiful 6in during the bridge feeding.
