Yes I just typed in Phoenix Oscar and was shocked to learn he didn't win. Seems like he's that good that it sparks the performance of his opposite co stars that they win the Oscar
i personally think joaquin deserved an oscar for his superb performance in this movie, and i think his acting complmented the work of Reese.. although she was herself really good
I do love that they played I Walk the LIne in the background as she walked up to the stage, and that the first people she mentioned in her speech were John and June
I only recently watched the film for the first time and it is undoubtedly FANTASTIC! Reese was incredible, but Joaquin was simply phenomenal! Im extremely happy he has his Oscar now, very well deserved for his role in Joker, however he should have won it for this film too! He was breathtaking. im pretty surprised Reese won but not him. His role was far more complex and (my personal bias aside because I am in love with Joaquin) he was so authentic and mind blowing in his performance. Its been like 14 years but im still upset he didn't win.
why are we so focused on Joaquin here when 1) this is Reese’s moment and 2) he was also a nominee, and there’s a separate video showcasing the Lead Actor performances that year.
Reese is a true beautiful woman inside and out and the kindest heart towards those around her. So happy she was recognized for the role of June Carter Cash! Congratulations holds true today for all her incredible work.
If you have any doubts about the validity of Reese's win, watch her in her film debut The Man in the Moon or any of her other films, namely Election. She's a highly gifted actress...and she was from the very beginning of her career.
@@zydration3538where did they say that? they’re saying for people who argue she wasn’t deserving, she was, and her talent is strikingly clear in this film as well as others like Election.
She was great but I'm still confused as to how she won for Walk the Line but Joaquin did not. He was better. No offence to Reese. It's just the God honest truth.
Well who was he up against that year? Personally I thought Leonardo DiCaprio was better than Brad Pitt in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but Leonardo had a tougher category (Best Actor) than Brad did (Supporting). Ironically Joaquin beat Leo as the Joker (so well deserved).
Reese was as good as Joaquin, let’s talk about HER, she is a wonderful actress and her speech was brilliant, there are so many wonderful videos to watch on RU-vid with the amazing June Carter and Johnny Cash, don’t miss them ...
Yikes at 90% of the comments talking about how Joaquin was robbed of best actor (which he definitely could have been), but you need to have Reese take this spotlight. Don't rob her of her accomplishment.
What a great actor he has always pushed the normal barriers.Hes a real artist and has also has inspired people. For people no matter who they are or what their situation or background they they come from can give back and achieve something that is really important for themselves and others.
Both are awesome. Incredible, stunning performance. Congrats Reese, She definetely worth it. Sutch a unbelievable movie. One of my all time favorites. Amazing couple.
Y’all aren’t being that rational and nice in the comments here...this video is about Reese winning the Oscar in the category for BEST ACTRESS. So whether or not you believe Joaquin Phoenix should have won, that doesn’t matter for this video. They were not in the same category, and it was 14 years ago. Let’s actually use the comments to praise Reese for her brilliant performance and HER award!
Her acting was good but she failed to convey the personality, mannerisms, and even singing voice and speaking cadence of June Carter. However the woman who played June's mother had Mother Maybelle Carter down so perfect that she seemed like the real thing.
June Carter did matter, probably more than she realised. Because when she died, a part of Johnny Cash died with her, and it was only a few months after her death he left this earth. He had been battling health problems, but many believe he died of a broken heart.
when this movie came out I was five years old now I’m 23 and I want to thank Joaquin Phoenix for what he showed me as a little kid on the screen he made me really think he’s the real Johnny Cash. Till my daddy one day finally said “he was just an actor playing johnny” I think I was around six at the time he finally told me that performance will leave me always and forever so grateful for Joaquin Phoenix in my life because I’m telling you right now he changed my life.
I love Johnny Cash and Wakl the line was a great movie on his life Reese did earn her award Joaquin Phoenix got robed of his cause that movie was nothing with out him.
All those people who are saying Phoenix should have won, have you people seen Capote?? Philip Seymour Hoffman gave a performance the Oscar was made for. He had no competition that year. In fact, he would've won any other year. P.S. Phoenix was amazing in Walk the Line.
People in the comment section mentioning Joaquin like they were competing for the same Oscar...Reese is EXCEPTIONAL people!! She has done amazing things in Election, Freeway, Legally Blond even. She is a gem and deserved this.
