This song, Reflections of My Life was adopted by the Men and Women who served in Viet-Nam during the 60's and 70's. It's the storey of a young American soldier who was shot and knows he's dying in some rice paddy or laying on the jungle floor waiting for death. Please listen to the words, "the sunlight to moonlight. He knows he fadeing into death and fast. Reflections of My Life. His life is passing before his eyes. Take me back to my old home. He wants his body returned to his home. PLEASE, just listen, this song should make any person cry. It does me, I served there when I was young. I'm 72 come this Nov. 17. 2022. Peace........ Thank you for your time to read.

Pandemic wow , great song with great meaning , Vietnam a senseless war, how about senseless war in Ukraine . A proxy war we are fighting for no reason, ask yourself why, simple joe Biden and the far left radicals . Want to choke our energy off.,create food shortages,,no you don’t believe ,government officials in Ukraine ,taking the money we are sending and buying homes in Switzerland, ok u don’t believe it,well believe it. The war in Ukraine was none of our business, yes give humanitarian help, shelter food, I’m all for that, love the people in Ukraine, not the government, or this thief zelenskyy a liar, now he’s demanding millions from us, he couldn’t care less if Putin blasts us with nukes, we pay 90 % of cost of war , the rest of nato 10% why please somebody explain that, we are dying here everyday, wake up it’s a cold hard reality nobody wants to admit, I don’t see stand with Ukraine bumper stickers anymore; why?

Kristin, My name is Jim Dodson, I'm 70. This song was the theme song of about One and a half million of my Brothers and Sisters in Vietnam. Dean Ford re-recorded this just before he died. It seems to show that most of us made it and life turned out okay. Thank You for playing The Song of my Life! Sgt. Jim Dodson U.S. Army Retired

The greatest bass riff John Entwhistle never played. The song is heartbreakingly beautiful but also heartbreakingly sad at the same time. I remember hearing it for the first time in 1969 when I was only five. It still gives me chills every time I hear it. You have a very soothing sort of ethereal voice very pleasant in every way. Stay kind and beautiful!!

Thank you so much for posting the song this was one of the most heaviest songs ever produced in the 60s it's mesmerizing for us that lived in the 60s and 70s the greatest time to ever be alive you seem to be a lonely old soul you had to be there to experience it but the music was the message Reflections of My Life mainly talk about the turbulent sixties protesting the Vietnam War the world is a sad place a terrible place but I don't want to die you're in hell and you're in the nam but something inside you says you got to survive....I don't want to die the 60s snd 70s was the greatest generation of music ever and I was glad to be part of it I saw the greatest groups... we all have a story to tell .. refreshing to see the younger generation key into the music there is a,message you seem to be affected by it... thank you for being a nurse and doing what you do...... I can remember so long hours being hospitalized and suffering and if it wasn't for the special nurses pulling me through I don't think I would have made it it seems to me you were born a generation too late it's sad to see what's happening in America today for me it makes me sick to the bottom of my stomach but keep the faith God bless there's a whole world of 60s and 70 musics out there tune into the birds and Rodger McGuinn..... sincerely the bear man

Hi Kristen, fromEngland. Hope you are well & happy. When Marmalade released this I was a teenager. This group at this time were overpowered by otherBritish pop groups, The Animals, The Rolling Stones and the Beatles to name a few. For a sad song to be around for fifty something years is a tribute to talent. Dean Ford did not have a good fifty years but we can still celebrate his achievements along with the group members. This format you have of emotionally giving yourself and critically acclaiming the artist at the same time, is wonderful. Have I missed other heartfelt appraisals? I hope not. You connected with thousands of souls that day. Years later I got caught up with your feelings. Well done. Thank you. Don’t leave me now Kristen. Geoff.😘

The Marmalade came from Scotland if you notice on the drums there is a picture of a "Golliwog" which was a Black doll and featured on jars of Robertson Marmalade. This wouldn't be allowed nowadays I'm sure there was no malice on their part.

The music of the 60's and 70's is the boom..there was so many style.. Folk, pop, rock, psychedelic..even bluegrass and country had big infuances like with Nitty Gritty Dirt Band... and the Byrds and John Denver. That music will for ever more live... not because of baby boomers but how great the music was and how people these days will cover them and make them their own. There is so much that was never even played on main streem radio. Like Chicago radio didn't know how to classify them... one of the greatest band of all time✌

You seemed to focus on the negative and not hear the most important lyrics at the end of that line. "The world is a bad place, a bad place, a terrible place to live, but I don't wanna die." That's actually quite positive. He's singing from the point of view of a soldier in Vietnam. Incredible song!

When we grew up in the late 60's and through the 70's we had the best music ever to listen to. A British DJ interviewed Dean Ford back in 2013. Dean said this song was not written about Vietnam, but a lot of Vietnam Vets could relate to the song and so they liked it. Which I could understand, but this is a very open-ended song so it can be related to in different ways.

I love this song and have often battled with it’s obvious meaning and that dark sinister meaning around which it skirts. I will play it when asked but that has only happened twice in my over 30 year career as a pianist on the road, with the last twelve years being with Royal Caribbean in the Schooner Bar aboard so many ships. Incidentally, I was on Freedom of the Seas in 2020. I joined the ship on March 5th out of Puerto Rico and the company got all the musicians off ship in Curaçao on the 11th after the U.S. declared a quarantine. I managed to get a flight into Miami and then back to my home port of Pensacola and didn’t work shipwise until 2022. Interesting times and tragic for many. I went home to Monroeville Alabama and worked at clubs throughout the panhandle and southern Alabama to make ends meet until the company was ready to set sail again. This song is a classic and unfortunately not many more came from Marmalade. This is not the original video however, and I have seen somebody has taken cuts from others and spliced them together which forced the unknown splicer to slightly speed up the track. The original track is slightly slower giving it a somewhat lower pitch and heavier feel.I like that one the best. Interesting guitar solo, especially love how the guitarist holds one note over the changes in the 4th bar!! Soulful singer, killer harmonies!! Great Stuff!!

@@KristinKali I was 10 years old back then. My father had just retired from the Army after spending a year in Vietnam and all the uproar was on the nightly news. In fact the old man had taken a job selling life insurance and one of his routes was in an area that wasn't that safe. We were at my grandparents in the pool when he came over and said he'd just quit his job. He said I've spent 20 years in the service and year in a combat zone and wasn't getting killed by a bunch of rioters at home. About the only good thing that came out of that era was the music.

Hi Kristin .. I'm back ... i've had computer probs but all good now. The 60's and 70s had so many beautiful innovations and new sounds and i was lucky to have been in that era. Just to live through all that was wonderful and to see so many great artists in their prime ... imagine what a thrill that was. IF you ever get the chance please play some Carpenters ... you will be pleasantly surprised .. I'm an out of work entertainer now as all the pubs , clubs and entertainment venues are close and until then i cannot contribute any numeration for a request but when i can i shall. Much love to you and stay safe please ... We love you and appreciate you xxx

I was born in 61 and I think my first memory of adult pop music was by Three Dog Night. Yes so many great sounds from that period.. the Carpenters, James Taylor, Mamas and Papas... 5th Dimension a group I discovered a few years ago The Sunshine Company>their on youtube check them out also. Alao those female vocalist Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Laura Nero etc. Male vocalist John Denver, Joe Crocker, Jim Croce, JT.. and more.. Watch the movie Sunset Strip 200? great music.

Thank you so much. I've had the feeling in my heart that you are a special lady. Bless you my friend, whenever you get the chance please play " We've Only Just Begun " It is so beautiful and was played in many weddings throughout the years ... You will hear her beautiful and magical voice . They are a brother and sister duo . It's the video clip where it starts with their picture together on an album cover ...Again i thank you from my heart.

Hello Kristin, I'm in New Zealand. Am 63 years old . Love the fact you get inspired by this song, as do I. I love your enthusiasm and I feel your love ❤️. Hey one thing you said, Jerry? Please, who is Jerry? Sounds like a good bloke. Love u, keep doing what you do. It's beautiful. And we need all the beautiful people in the world to " come together" right now. Love you Kristin.

Hello my New Zealand friend :) Welcome to my humble/chaotic channel... Jerry was a Vietnam Veteran and my mentor when i was growing up... he died in 2017 around the time I joined youtube. Im a nurse inspired bc of his work as a Medic/Physician assistant in Central California. Jerry always told me to do or say the RIGHT thing no matter how hard it is... or how alone you might be.
