Excellent video. I have been doing same process for years. I do use the impact gorilla glue on my flecthings. Never lost a feather and it takes less time. A couple years I also added a 3/8 in wide piece of reflective tape between back of feathers and nock. Helps find arrow at night when tracking. Shoot straight.
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow Год назад
Yep that reflective tape works great. Also handy when blood trailing, hang your bow on last blood and the reflective tape makes it easy to see.

This with also work for aluminum arrows. The bonus if you have cresting wrap, the arrows do not need to be worried about getting too hot with a heat gun if you do not mind having to wait for arrow to cool provided you do not have a pro/industrial heat gun. Do not try with wood/bamboo however, most of those break before needing a redo anyhow. Then fiberglass not sure if using heat to get a wrap off is a good Idea, best bet here if using some kind of fiberglass if you can find arrow shaft made for adult bows that are not the hollow core Chinese ones or a thicker fiberglass dowl is to not use any cresting and look for a glue that will work with fiberglass using actual feathers. I have yet to do it but when I do, using the AAA Trad Vanes or similar shoot off shelf foam rubber fletching in some type of bright orange when I do with the outer Fletching in white or yellow. I will be for the type of feathers that are actually fletching, looking for the right glue for that type of fletching AAA Trad Vane in the hunter/fluorescent orange color with white outer fletching, I will do most of this except the cresting, as I will spray-paint some sections of the arrows like on some black arrows do a hunter orange/fluorescent orange with mat finish on top. But the ones I have in red do a Red redo of spray paint in closet matching color I can find (if the arrow needs it) with and mat finish still using the orange fletching. Then some others have to strip the painted on cresting off to redo the arrow using some kind of remover like paint thinner or denatured alcohol carefully so as to not remove the arrow spine label off the arrow on it using actual feathers still in the orange and white due to one bow of the 3 I have that needs to have feathers or thinner fletching then what the thinnest foam rubber fletching is, more like the classic rubber when it gets thin/worn in. With this one bow it is more having to use feathers due to how long that bows arrow shelf is, it is almost too long to work shooting off for any arrow at a hair over 2.75 inches long and the arrow shelf being so shallow for that size but still curved enough to shoot off. Probably switching 9 arrows from 4 feathers to 3 since all other new arrows for that one bow will be 3 arrows if I make more arrows/buy some pre made should the ones I have get damaged beyond use. Reason I plan to use white for outer is to know the outside vane or feather as I have been known to mess up and put the arrow on backwards if they all look the same if I get excited, that and I am just used to arrows not darts having the outer a different color. I want the AAA Trad Vanes or similar due to the fact they are all weather, and some colder weather has been known to take out older feathers nearing the end of use for arrows.

I use the Loctite Super Glue Ultra Gel Control in the plastic bottle for my inserts, that has never given up on me, I did have some give out on me but they were the standard Gel Control that is not water resistant unlike the Ultra Gel Control. I still have a single tube of the two I got that were the standard Gel Control. Problem was at this one store when I got the Loctite, they had put the standard Gel Control on the entire Ultra Gell Control rack and did not read the label thinking it was just a different variation of packaging for the same product, like some Chain stores get a different packaging for the same product and smaller chains/independent get the classic packaging.

Great video Jason. You hit on some fine pointers. I can tell you from previous experience " blow dryers don't work" lol. Only a heat gun.

Yep never heard of a hair dryer doing well for that. Same with vinyl sticker removal. People always chine in and say hair dryer. The hair dryer doesn't work for that either. Hest gun in the way to go.

I use the one from 3 rivers or kustom King thry are both the same. I've chopped about 800 feathers on mine and it works the same as the day I bought it

I actually found a much safer way to remove fletching without the risk of damaging the shaft or wraps. Just soak your fletching in warm water for a few minutes then just try to take off as much material as possible with your hands or a guitar pick. Then you can scrape the excess off with water and the rough side of a sponge.
@SamkoTradBow

will try it. Thanks,

Hi,Jason Is it still worth making arrows with the the cost!! of everything? I just ordered some traditional only arrows on sale for 79.00 for 6 with fethers and raps and I cut them my self and install inserts. I end up losing or breaking shafts in deer. I'm thinking about buying a fletching jig just don't know if its worth it.
