This is a good model, and there are several renditions of the same fridge, and these "HOW TO" principals apply to almost every home refrigerator you come across in one way or another. The model number of this particular fridge is an approximate 2009 Sears Kenmore 106.58902802 which is a 25cu foot side-by-side, it's one of good ones and if the coils get cold, it is worth repairing.
Sometimes the refrigerator is set so low that it freezes the air circulation passages, preventing proper cooling blowing into the refrigerator. In this scenario, the Freezer appears to be cooling just fine because the freezer compartment is where all the actual cooling takes place, but the clogged passages do not allow for proper airflow coming out of the freezer to the refrigerator food compartment. In troubleshooting your fridge, visual inspection is a very important part of solving any issues you have. Some refrigerators use a small door between the freezer and refrigerator that opens and closes to control the humidity and temperature, which fails or sticks. These doors can be very difficult to get to, but on this model, there is no such door, so rest assured it is probably a very simple repair that could save you a few thousand dollars in getting a new refrigerator, as much as your wife really wants a new one, you can buy a few more years, and spend it on a get-away. Once you have identified the issue, then get the model number off the inside door of the food area and go to my highly recommend an online parts store where you find your model and get your parts fast from www.AppliancepartsPros.com, I love this company. They are very helpful. Good fixing, E "The Swiss Army Knife"

I'm almost certain the thermal breaker part you mention at 3:15 is not to shut the defroster off when it gets too hot. It actually is attached to the cooling coils and activates the defroster when it gets cold enough. That's what they've said in literally every other vid I've seen with this type of fridge anyway. I'll try to replace this part first as mine is no longer defrosting

Hi Eric, how do you defrost the return air channel *upwards*????? You poured hot water in to go down, but what about the ice upwards in the wall??? thx

How did you take out the heating coils cover inside the freezer ? Mine feels stuck or glued in place : ice build up ? If that's the case, defrost for a coupla days ?

Bro that is a return in the fridge not an air outlet. The only air outlet is in the top left of the fridge part. That one 2/3 of the way down is a return...You have frozen up. I have the same fridge...and a teenager with a wife of 30 Plus years. She is looking good too. Ok sorry to side track. If that return is blocked..with food. container...what ever blocking the return..you are screwed with this fridge. I know I have gone thru this twice. The fridge was not cooling at all. because of lack of air circulation. I had ice it as you did. I shut is down emptied it out. Cleaned it out and let it sit for two days. Took the back bottom panel and front bottom cover off.. Went at it with a vac and my compressor. Coils looked brand new. Was dusty so I think heat was not dissipating properly. It works great or did until the other day when my daughter left or I did a plastic bag corner in the top of the door and the seal. Yup it all frosted over...in the freezer So....now I have shut it down let the coils in the freezer melt off...after five hours. Now fired up again. Probably gonna run for eight hours before it shuts off. Frost on bottom of coil in freezer above the drip pan. I will see. My friend who owns an appliance joint and does repairs as well. Came over the first time to tell me parts are almost no existent for this machine. Then when we turned it on the damper on the fridge side opened up and it was working great. I hope to get it back to that point. Your video helped me out immensely. Ty ty ty! Shit let me tell you about my crap GE 1400 Dola Washer that broke after 1 week of purchase. Anotther time. Thanks again. Great video!
