Reg Livermore and Jemma Rix perform 'Wonderful' from Wicked The Musical at Sydney's Capitol Theatre. Wicked Australia, Melbourne and Sydney 2014 / 2015
I love that even though Oz is clearly manipulating her, the actors able to pull it off in a convincing way that actually seems honest yet charming. He doesn't seem like some powerful uberminch but more like a man who was more of a victim of circumstance. And it all sounds sincere coming from this guy too
Can we just talk about those awesome cape like movements the wizard does with his overcoat here? I love it!! I'd so swoosh my "cloak" around if I was playing him.
Apparently we can thank Joel Grey for that! He was very passionate and involved in his character around when the show first hit broadway. Both the cape-like coat and the dance with him and Elphaba in earlier productions were all Joel Grey's ideas!
Have seen the original version with Joel Grey and various performances since and find this to be best rendition of this song. I’ve always found the original to be a tad slow but Reg’s performance here is spot on with the routine and the faster pace of this song. Bravo!
Fantastic! I love that there is now a video of my first and favourite Wizard and Elphaba and in high definition! Wonderful performance by Reg and Jemma looking stunning as always!
The daughter went to see this in Sydney with her school and a few parents were able to go too (I was one yay) After the show there was a bit of an informations session with Glen Hogstrom who played Dr Dillamond. He explained that some of the cast had a few mics.. elphaba had a few including one in her hat.
this is the first version ive seen that i actually really like (tho ive never actually seen the show live lol). But all the other versions ive watched on youtube make oz seem much too sincere and cutesy, almost as if he actually believes the stuff he's selling, or at least wants Elphaba to really believe he does, even as he obviously textually doesn't. I like the cynical edge this guy gives the lines, it seems much more like what must have been intended, and just much more like The Wizard of Oz. This Elphaba seems really great too
The WONDERFUL was removed after the London production opened in 2006. When they opened London, they started to add the elements from that company to all the productions (which also included the new scene when "Elphaba" and "Fiyero" first meet and don't get along at first). So sad when they got rid of that dance.
