This is a fantastic book. If you really want to dive into the Regency era then I strongly recommend The Time Travellers Guide to Regency Britain by Ian Mortimer. This was one of the sources for Regency Cthulhu and it's incredible.

Ran my first game of Regency Cthulhu a couple of weeks ago and we had a blast. Thank you for sharing and your review. 😊

Not really a time/location that interests me, but the book still looks interesting. Like Reign of Terror, I'm still tempted to grab it, so I can potentially use it for "flashback" type side scenarios for a longer campaign (like Masks or Horror on the Orient Express).

i am waiting for mine to arrive still. Love the period and thinking Richard Sharpe style 95th Rifles missions against the old ones as well as all the high society stuff

Just after the Napoleonic wars? Waterloo was 18th June 1815. Sorry to nitpick ;)

Lovely book, lots of history. I'm love the idea of the Dark Ages, Western and Regency time periods to all add to the 1920's so this seems another right up that ally - when you think of all the different interest time periods there a lot there to tap into. I wish I was smart enough to help design books/periods - A lovely review and look - thanks for another great video, it's great you cover the major difference or unique time periods differences/mechanics in these books/adventures.

Commenting again as I watch (easiest for my ADHD brain) New Scenarios always cool, but put me a bit off that i thought there isnt enough material on the period, though it as much material as the Berlin Book seemingly (btw, I dont think you reviewed it in full here yet? Would be cool if you still do, its one of my favourites. Especially as I am originally from germany) No doubt the writing is top notch as usual. Agree much on the cross-referencing. Love this in the Runequest books too. Only other company doing a good (or even better) job with that is montecookgames. But yeah, you dont see it very often sadly. Seeing the map - I live in Lancaster, Lancashire btw. yeah, the OG Lancaster hehe. coincidentally cause my gf lived here. But we plan to move to Glasgow. Despite the historic nature of it, it is a little town with not a lot going on. (still calm and pretty, it has a castle) Yeah, I was never into her stuff, but different time periods always add spice to Cthulhu, why wouldnt you do this? My biggest caveat with the book (from what I can tell) is no mention whatsoever of Gothic Literature, despite being its high time (1790-1830). Really a missed opportunity. You could even use their archetypes for a pulp version! I would do it myself, but the process/rules of the miscatonic/jonstown stuff is just too complicated for me as autist. agree with the roleplaying opportunities. the reputation system is a cool idea. about classism in uk vs us - pretty much true and honestly good to hear it from your perspective. People here are overpolite, but more generally you can say someone from the hale south is more indirect, more coozy while we in the north dont hold back with our opinions and endearing insults. still a general overpoliteness and dancing around is a typical thing here despite acknowledging the big divide. especially as we have a more left labour opposition with the labour party to the tories, than in the us. its kinda sad to hear of that denial than. on the side - i peek that the sample town is in Wiltshire, which is part of what we call the west country, where aristocrats of London had their manors etc. (or the royal family) and nowadays the vacation place of southerns I heard. always seemed to me like a place in nowhere as it lacked in cultural highlights like in other parts (though never visited) and iirc Bristol wasnt really a big town back than either. goes without saying its a fictional place really interested once again to get, even more so now, so thx for that. already planned other stuff to get this month, but if it falls flat, this might be my substitute.

5 minutes into this review. I had no interest in this setting, but the review of quality and details of this book as piqued my interest. Nice work.

You're wrong about landed gentry. The gentry live off of income from rents, hence the concept of the gentleman-a man who doesn't work for their living.
