Welcome to the video folks. I was fortunate enough to be allowed behind closed doors to the first ever Southern Super Trowel Regional Heat.
17 competitors battled it out to earn their spot in the final and chance to dethrone the current Super Trowel champion, Charlie Collison, in Milton Keynes in August.
A slightly scaled down version of the wall, 15 minutes less than the final but the same strict marking and judging criteria applies.
A great event with a couple of brickies travelling all the way from the USA to compete.

I'm From the Philly area and Phil is one of the instructors at Williamson Trade school. Williamson is one of the best trade schools in the USA and they produce students in all the Trades. I've gotten to work with a few of their graduates and they all know their stuff. Great Video

Hey that's me! 😃 It was great finally meeting you. You helped me a good bit in preparing for that day/week - the size of bricks over there, how they're measured, what a CSCS card is, etc. Thanks for putting this video together (great vid BTW), and thanks for all you do!

Its a Trade and Health and safety card that you need to work on a lot of sites, you cant obtain one without an NVQ which is the UKs now poor excuse for an Apprenticeship, basically the whole thing is a money making scam with little benefit to the trade.

I like camo mate what can I say 🤣 There is no deductions for amount of muck on the floor mate, its a race after all. Its not as easy as people think it is, a few spectators from last years final found that out

Didn’t think the bricks were smaller in height USA? Certainly in height Canada there same height but normally 300mm long 90mm wide but similar height to ours.

Standard American brick are 3 5/8 wide 2 1/4 high and 7 5/8 long . You can feel immediately when you pick them up they are considerably smaller and lighter . 6 brick to a block the same as ours .

Would the Dutch lads be allowed to work from there tubs if they entered the super trowel competition. With the trowels they use they would be disadvantaged working from boards . I have some of the Dutch trowels and they are definitely more suited to working from tubs.

That’s a great question. I will find out tomorrow at the Northern Heat. Dutch lads are great at pick n dip with those little trowels and the tubs, great combination

@@bricklayersworldwithandy6277 how do you think they would do Andy if they were allowed use the tubs. building the corners would be the hardest part for them would it.

@@brickbybric They would do well i think, short corners with a level aren't a problem with them they can all do it, jointing up they would need to practice on as they dont really do it. I worked with a Turkish trowel in Germany , blimey he was super fast and neat.

Cavity cleaner come off it hessian or 4inch guttering does the job. Why they trying to reinvent the wheel with all these gadgets, Bricky’s will have more tools than joiners soon.🤣

😂 we do have to explore options and try to innovate though mate. We can’t just stand still and not innovate. Look at the carpenters and plumbers progress with tools and efficiency. Whilst every invention is not going to be a home run, some will make it

He has done over 700 in Specmix in the US, it was a bit new to him here as it would be, different bricks and probably a bit of jet lag but I still haven't seen anyone yet who can get near Charlie but we will see.
