"This is a creative way to tackle the nursing shortage, but not the way to go," registered nurse Sarah Warren said on "Morning in America." Warren said she wonders how the "victims" of the scam were approached and if it was advertised to them as a fast-track option to become a registered nurse.

As a current nursing student who is about to graduate, the classes we take in our program are rigorous. It is not just about being caring, but we get tested on the variety of illnesses, medications, side effects, the rights of medication, sterilization process, etc for the safety of our patients. How would these people attend to these important needs if they have no clue what they are?

Sounds like you had a good program. Lots of programs are trash though, and many people only learn theory. Many schools only use students for CNA work in clinicals. New job orientation is when I learned the most. Congrats on finishing up school.

Me and two of my friends struggled to get into an RN program in Sacramento. I applied to 8 schools in northern California and got into 2 programs. my other friend moved to Alabama for an RN program. My other friend moved to Reno for his RN program. The gatekeeping notion is real, however that doesn't give anyone the right to take short cuts and put vulnerable patience at risk. Also, school need to do a better job at including an LVN to RN program.

When there was a severe RN shortage in the mid 1990's, my neighbor, who is a RN, told me that hospitals were desperate for Registered Nurses. Nurse Recruiters from America would heavily recruit from foreign countries. Some of the recruiters would have copies of the exam or the answers. Then, there were nurses from foreign countries who worked as RN's in America and had become citizens. According to her, these nurses were running a business selling fake CPR cards and taking RN board exams for foreign nurses. The nurse would usually charge the prospective RN $2,000.00 prior to taking the exam and an additional $2,000.00 after the foreign nurse received a copy of the RN license. The "real" nurses would also be paid to tutor these nurses in their homes and teach the basics and what to expect, how to perform injections, etc. This is highly dangerous and almost unbelievable. She also said that back then, fingerprints, etc. weren’t required, just an ID. The proctor barely glanced at. Sometimes, makeup and wigs were worn to look like the person on the ID/License. She cites this as the reason she retired early and I am happy to have her as a neighbor and obtain some good advice and how to spot an inexperienced nurse or doctor. With all of this modern technology, I wonder how they were able to pull this off. Parents need to stop forcing their children to go to medical school, law school and nursing school if they don’t wish to do so. This Sarah Warren nurse who is being interviewed doesn't appear to be experienced either.

Eyes got very tired of studying many hours memorizing and studying all the subjects. All nurses knows this. Even passing nclex exam is tough. Some had to retake 3-5X to passed. Many tears, anxiety and depression had to suffered before getting licensed and achieve this profession. Especially if you are coming from other country, you need to passed english exam, took local board and nclex. Spent lots of money to pay for the tuition fees and reviews. Agreed. I'm tired of hearing about how 'nursing school isn't accessible' or 'too expensive'. I've done my RN program while working full-time as a Med Assistant in the ED. It pisses me off that people expect to have this handed to them, instead of gutting it out like myself and others in my class (two others in a similar position to me). Yeah, it's not easy going to school in the day and working in a busy ED at night, but that's if you want something you suck it up and get it done. As a new nursing school graduate, who knows the rigor of the nursing curriculum I could not fathom entering into any medical facility not academically or practically qualified. Even with everything that we are taught during nursing school many of us are not comfortable enough to practice with full confidence. It is not because we were not academically prepared, trained on how to think critically or that we are unable to apply the principles of nursing practice. However some of the insecurity comes from knowing the benefits as well as the gravity of our implementations. Unfortunately, I have known of scams upwards to "someone working in the IT Department of the Board of Nursing who can change your NCLEX score". These claims have appeared in study forums across the internet. It's unknown if this is even possible but the reality is, some will try this alternative method to practice. These types of acts are so despicable that they cannot be measured parallel to most trespasses. I have followed this story because I am in such awe but yet not surprised!

We had to get all her transcripts for Philippines, waited a few months for approval. She passed first try on 2022. Now keep in mind she was a nurse in the Philippines. To touch on her last question. It just seems that these people who paid must have already had access to educational material/ nursing content. (i.e., LPN, worked in a hospital in another role, have already taken some classes, etc) They had to have some familiarity. You can't fake your way on the job if you have never been exposed to what nursing is. To step into nursing, cold turkey is another thing. Plus, they passed the NxLEX. I could see them having wanted an accelerated pathway to something they were already doing. Nursing school is hard work. There is no way around it. Eventually, if lacking, will show.

Spread The Word. 100s don't pass exit exam each semester and held there much longer than anticipated. "Contracts" change every semester. With that $$ you can move to any state's community college!! Where goes the money ICHS?? Barely a campus. Little clinical site availability. Students pay proctor most exam. On campus testing is another nightmare. Exams questions completely random and each is at least 30-45% grade. Staff are 'fired' and rehired rotating positions constantly. Staff death from overdoses and fired for sexual favor 'rumors'. Even 'rumor' of students suicides. (I guess death happens in hospitals too, it's just preparation?) Unable to reach staff by phone, email, or in-person and so many LIES. Instructors rotate from agency. Some graduated from shut-down diploma mills. Family&friend-run business racket- there's many if FL. Somehow does DeSantis benefit?!

This hits too close to home. I finished my ASN 10 years ago. It was very competitive, there was 12 people applying for 1 program spot. I had to get all As in all prerequisites and score high on TEAS test. I’m finishing my BSN in May . I started my program when I was pregnant and working full time as a nurse. I worked full time the whole time and now I’m graduating on my sons 2nd birthday. So many sacrifices and sleepless nights. This people are tainting out profession while hurting other human beings. So frustrating 😡😡😡

My question is did these fake nurses actually know that the degree they were getting was fake? At the moment it's such a headline that everyone is wondering how they hid it, but we don't have any real details. It's possible that, as the girl in this interview says, maybe a course shut down after a couple of years and all of their credits were null and void as a result, and this scam company told them they would recognize their credits and give them a certificate. At which point these nurses are literally just victims. I think we need to be mindful that it's possible many of these nurses were duped into thinking it was valid.

The REAL nursing test?..is very strick, case & point and hardcore to take and to pass it with an average of 85+ results. Maybe that's why they all decided to take the short cuts to just purchase it and moved on? I strongly feel that all those medical students who did this, MUST BE contacted and be given an opportunity to take the real classes again? BUT not to be taking care of patients at any medical facilities... Thank you.

Clinical is bullshit anyway. In nursing school all we did was CNA work in clinical....which sucked because I then had to go to work at my real job then as a CNA. The real training came with on-the-job training....jobs are supposed to train new nurses anyway. You can't be a new grad and just start a job willy-nilly without training. They're trying to make it look like nursing schools are all top-notch. Many students teach themselves in nursing school. Some nursing schools do online clinicals....which is bullshit too. So this agenda they're trying to push that they needed clinical is bs too. They were able to pass the nclex....and that's the main requirement. One isn't expected to be a pro just because they passed the nclex

Finally a sensible comment. As a nurse, nursing school was challenging, yes, but far from impossible. All you really needed to do was put in the time and effort. The only thing nursing schools care about is their NCLEX pass rate. Their goal is for the student to pass the NCLEX and some those people who bought nursing degrees passed the NCLEX so who cares if they went to nursing school or not. They'll get plenty of training during orientation.

There’s not a shortage of nurses. What they need to go back and train high school students as LPN and bring back 2 year degrees nurses. They dismantled that because a lot of Black Americans were entering into fields. They water it down then started hiring more overseas. ESPECIALLY back in 1996 with the reengineering of healthcare

Years ago in England, (mostly) girls would go into nursing directly when they graduated high school. They learned on the job, bottom up, with a couple of days a week at nursing school. In reality they were a lot more rounded, able and willing to do the “dirty jobs,” and provided lots of patient care. I have found that todays nurses with their expensive college degrees are much more unwilling to be seen as a “traditional,” care giving nurse and expect to be treated and act, more like junior doctors. Try to find a nurse these days who will hand-hold to calm nerves or to bring a cup of tea - you won’t find one. I absolutely refuse to go into a hospital today unless there is no alternative. They are no longer the caring safe havens that we had when I was young. They are more like a very impersonal conveyor belt, or uncaring money making machines.
@nancyburns5062

You need the education behind nursing. What you don't need is the attitude of these younger nurses who think because they have higher degree masters and beyond that they are beyond patient care. No one is and never should think that. Everyone has to start somewhere...be able to do what you can delegate. I always did what I delegated as a BSN RN Nurse Manager. None of my staff was beneath or above me. There is no me in team. Young nurses need to understand you work for the betterment of the patient not yourself. I am happily retired. Go back to the old standard testing of nursing boards...two days and multiple testing areas....much more difficult to pass. You need to rise up to bring the standard up in nursing...BSN should be the standard entry. Also they require license when you go into testing areas and school id. At least almost forty years ago they did.

@@napnemeanix always remember why you went into your chosen field...not for the money. I did nursing because I loved it, money was always secondary. If you don't love what you do you will not get enjoyment out of what you do. That's why younger nurses are fleeing after such a short time in the field. Nursing is very hard work, but so fulfilling. It's not "gatekeeping" really, it's a shortage of qualified instructors. There's a nationwide shortage of nurses to start with. Nurse educators are not exception to this. I wouldn't call a shortage of instructors 'gatekeeping'. It's not as if the nursing community is trying to keep people out. It's that there aren't enough instructors to properly train/instruct new students.
