I regret my major sooo much and it forced me to pursue a postgraduate degree I have no interest in . I want to pursue a second bachelors in business administration in Germany. I want a stable job with an income.
Jobs are getting increasingly unstable. But if there is such a thing resembling a stable job, then that can (in many cases) be achieved without a specific bachelor's degree. One of the methods is to work oneself up from a junior position and quickly getting promoted and cross-promoted. There are many people who study one thing but end up working in another field. Of course there are jobs and careers for which there are specific and fixed requirements. But then there are lots of careers where you can work your way in with an unrelated Bachelor's degree. I wish you all the best!
I originally went to Virginia Tech in 2009 and my major was undecided. I was super depressed there and baking made me feel better, so I left VaTech and decided to go to the Culinary Institute of America in 2011. I ended up with a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Baking and Pastry Arts Management, with a concentration in Wine and Beverage Management. I just tell people its a Bachelors in Hospitality Management. My college choice was so specialized that I can't really do anything else with it. all of my peers from school are in fine dining management positions and i'm stuck as a waitress. I feel so stuck and I don't know what to do. I already changed colleges once. I can't justify going back to school for another bachelors degree at 28 years old, especially with all of my debt.
What you studied sounds amazing! Wine & Beverage management, that sounds really interest. I agree that going back to school is not a good idea, especially if you still have (student) debt. Although you might feel stuck as a waitress now, I am certain that will not be the case forever. Sometimes in life there are temporary situations that we go through. Do you know what you want to achieve within the next 3-5 years? As long as you slowly and steadily work toward that goal, you will definitely get closer to it. Sometimes, to get to that goal, it takes several steps and turns. Don't give up and all the best to you!
@@MultipleCareers Thank you for answering! All I know is that I DO NOT want to continue to work in restaurants, but that's all my education has prepared me for.
I am currently studying media , I am a first year student . But I don’t think this field is for me + I am really interested in Psychology and coding . In my country we don’t have a system of changing majors we stick to what we have . I don’t know how to work on this , because I can apply to foreign universities idk if I should go
From what I know, in many countries a major change is possible - technically speaking it's not a 'major change', but rather 'cancelation and starting anew', and it comes along with a cost: the study fees you've already paid and the time. If it's not possible to change majors, then what you can do is explore your interests on the side as much as possible. If you're interested in coding, you could take an online coding bootcamp (there are online courses), and there is a lot of free psychology literature you can read (public domain books and also a lot of research paper). Doing that, you can find out how in-depth you want to go and find out if you want to make it into a career. If possible, you can try get a part time job that is related to those fields. It might not be a perfect match, but anything that is close to your interest will help you to find out how serious you are about it. All the best!
