A frank video (series?) about my personal struggles and successes with Asperger's Syndrome. The book I'm speaking of in this video is "Look Me in the Eyes: My Life with Asperger's" by John Elder Robison.

Thank you for sharing, the bravest thing you can do is be yourself. Love you on NPS.

+raveneffect Thank you. You're echoing the general sentiment that I've been hearing. It's awesome to get such a positive vibe.

Thank you for this video, Jeremy. You are brave for sharing your story. While I don't have Asperger's Syndrome, I did go through a rough period in college: I had a kidney stone, a member of my family was having a meltdown, and the girl I crushed on broke my heart. All this on top of the stress of being in college and maintaining schoolwork. A friend of mine gave some advice that really helped me through that period. He said, "Congratulations, you're normal." I said, "What?" He continued with, "What you are going through isn't FUN, but it's NORMAL. And you can take comfort in the fact that suffering is a normal part of life." That bit of advice helped me see that the world wasn't out to get me, or that I was doing something wrong. I was just living my life.

+Ranger Commentary Thanks for sharing yourself. Yeah, I think it was Patton Oswalt who made a great post on Twitter where he really put into perspective just how normal and inconsequential the horrors that we experience when we're younger truly are and how we can't let them consume who we're going to be as adults. Live your life. Always be moving forward.

Though unknowing of what I have exactly, I can relate to all these points and am grateful to hear this. You've put to words the thoughts and philosophy I've developed, over this decade, through trial and error, in practicing public speaking. These are also ideals that have been repeated throughout history so we're far from alone. I'll definitely check out this book and keep an eye on this series.

No words can describe old friend. It made me feel good to watch this and learn the journey you took to this point. Makes me feel good that I was one of those select friends from high school who just wanted friendship from you ...And on occasion have you draw me as a comic book Hero lol. Great vids, see you next month at D&D? I think we are shooting for May 14.

+John Lee Absolutely. Even though there was a long period without much communication, you've always been one of those select few true, blue friends and I'm very thankful for that. Yep. I'll see you next month.

I can honestly say I feel and understand you. Not that I have Asperger's myself, but just on the thoughts and self douting; having to tell myself to stop, believe in myself...etc. The part on being 30 and still single I can relate to a lot. I know a lot of people who are 30 or almost 30 and are married with kids or have yhat boyfriend/girlfriend they've been with a while. I always think why can't I have that too? Not the kids part but a girlfriend would be nice. Part of my problem is probably that I'm introverted as well. In the end, I try not to dwell on it too much. Also the whole internet thing, it really helps one connect with people that share so many things in common with oneself. You get to meet a lot of great people too. We met thanks to it, and at that time I had *just* gotten it too. I think I'm lucky in real life because I have 2 friends who I share so much in common with, and who at the same time we have our differences, but we understand and love each other very much.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's last year at 40. I did well in school, but I had to learn study in my own way. I struggled socially all my life. Apparently, doctors told my mother at the age of 4 that I was borderline autistic and they told my mother I need to be institutionalized. She said no to institutionalization and then doctors try to make him have most normal life as possible. When I was 8 years old, that was when I realized I was different. My psychologist, who diagnosed me said that I would need a note taker in class, audio formatted textbooks and exams, and longer time to write exams. I had none of that going though school.

I know I've been very quiet as of late Jer but I really applaud you for doing this video. I've been wanting to talk to you about this because I been unsure about myself and with my separation and impending divorce I wondered what was wrong with me and why I couldn't understand why he left and why I really haven't moved on from the pain and basically where I went wrong. Along with my ex denying that he also screwed up and blaming me for everything, it's been really hard to move on. To the point it feels like a downward spiral of depression and at times I have felt like I'm not needed here on earth. I'm lucky I have family and good friends (including you). I want to talk to you more about this because theres more I want to ask but doing it in front of everyone is scary and I don't think RU-vid gives us enough room. I've also been fretting on how to talk to you too. Message me on FB Jer! I'll let you know when I'm free to talk.

+Katie Gunn I'm glad this resonated with you, Katie. Of course we can talk about this. You know I've always had time for you. I can't promise that I have all the answers but I'll do my best to give you my perspective. :)

I think a lot of people think a person is just shy. A shy person is quiet obviously, but that does not stop them from having friends and getting relationships. When I told my brother about Asperger's , it was like that just means permament shyness LOL. Then I told him the symptons or conditions of it.

Wow that was really heartfelt as I have Aspergers myself...thank you for sharing. I have a collector related question. I was noticing your display case. Do you buy doubles? (one to open and one to keep in box) And do you have storage issues?(I live in an Apt and am running out of room)I struggle with to open or not to open. Thanks again Jer.

+Valda Carrion Thank you. I'm glad it resonated with someone. In the same way that it was a weight off of my shoulder to get a diagnosis, it's another weight to just share who I am with the world. I used to be pretty big on doubles although I've gotten away from it. I've really limited what I do and do not collect. The only stuff that stays in package now is convention exclusive items and things that mean a lot to me personally (i.e. the new Scarlet Spider figure I have two of). Storage-wise, yeah I'm having issues. A lot of stuff is at my parents' place but even so I've found myself selling items here and there not because I need money but because I need room. I've had to get pickier.
