I grew mine indoors with a UV lamp placed over them 12 hours a day. I also changed the water once daily and I was able to get full enough leaves to harvest after 6 days!
I’m starting some romaine today, so this is helpful. My goal is to start different kinds of greens-carrot, beet, garlic, etc.-because I like my salads with different kinds of greenery! I’ve started green onions and they’re doing well! I also am interested in starting some tomatoes and strawberries!
Very cool. I may try this. Some hypothetical suggestions to try: 1) Cut a fresh base on the bottom, to inprove water uptake, and perhaps dust the cut with rooting enzyme. 2) Instead of plain water, try a weak hydroponic solution.
If you cut it too short it will take longer to grow leaves and your leaves will be smaller. I mentioned to leave at least two inches but really 3 or more is probably ideal
True in absolutely no way - from a horticulture / agriculture and bioresource degree. Water will rot dead leaf tissue (the bottom of the lettuce) regardless of the air quality. And you can't grow without air because plants need root respiration with O2 access to even grow in general.
