Regrow SuperMarket Lettuce Hydroponically: Bug Free and Soil Free using the Kratky Method!

Can you regrow supermarket lettuce? This lettuce was harvested and packaged weeks ago, then sat in the supermarket, and finally in my refrigerator for another couple of days, so can it still put out roots and grow some more? Follow along as I regrow these heads of Romaine lettuce, the results are…..delicious! You can do this for any lettuce, of course organic is best since it hasn’t been treated with anything….Bon Appetite!
If you want better results (quicker and bigger) then use hydroponic solution in the water. The lettuce will regrow with just plain water, but it will grow bigger and faster with a nutrient solution. The one I use is Grow Big from Fox Farms, 3-2-6, formulated for hydroponics. Very easy to mix with water. You can find it on amazon by searching for it, or here is the link:

Hello. At this point I have literally watched every one of your videos. I appreciate your channel and all the great information. I am an avid gardener and for whatever reason I have never tried hydroponics, after all these lessons I will be starting soon. I have a few questions. Are you composting? What are you using for the foil reflecting around the shelves? What is your set up like? Can we see your storage space? I look at all the speeds and supplies you are using in the videos and I am curious about the behind the scenes. Thank you for the great videos that are factual, honest and no rambling.

Thank you Leah, I appreciate the feedback! I don't compost indoors, only outside during the summer months. I find it too hard in the winter. I challenge anyone, to show me photos of a lettuce, onion, celery, etc, that has FULLY grown, using that method. Been doing this for years, using different methods to get the desired results, but in the end, it will die. I have been growing gardens for years, and although I am all for "recycling" anything that i can grow, these videos are nice only for viewership and likes. Get yourself some seeds which are inexpensive amd grow a proper garden. Dont waste time waiting for a harvest from this stuff here in the video. Especially now with the virus and stores running low on food, start growing herbs, veggies, and anything you can in the space you have. Bless you all and stay healthy.

@grandprime9026
@grandprime9026 4 года назад
@@farshimelt Dude, read what I said: this thing doesnt work. Yes you get a couple of inches of that center of the lettuce, or celery, etc, but you NEVER get what these kids of videos tell you. It had nothing to do with people living in apartments or the freaking surface of Mars. You NEVER get a full vegetable, out of a smal piece of it. You want a vegetable? Then put a freaking seed in a pot! It's that simple! Nature's Lawn, vud, not mine. I lived in an apartment for many years before i bought a house with land. But in the apartment, i would grow stuff in buckets, pots and containers. That crap you see in this video does NOT work like they say/show. End of story. Yes it sucks, but oh well! If you have an issue with that, file your complaint with Nature. Her rules, not mine.

Hi! Great experiment. Because of your experiment - I have started a - regrow lettuce from roots experiment. I have an iceburg lettuce plant growing as a vine, not a head. So, after watching your regrow lettuce video I cut off a few segments of my lettuce vine. The vine has begun growing several leaves from the vine stalk and leaf joint. Maybe it'll grow a head? If not, I'll let it grow more leaves, cut, eat, grow, etc. Not efficient but, an experiment. Note: I'd had a high nitrogen fertilizer in a kratki method jug. I've read high nitrogen won't promote a lettuce head. Thus, I have adjusted to another blend - much lower nitrogen. We will see if it grows heads on my 3 lettuce vines. Like your meanderings.

I think a large amount of fertilizers applied (urea) during the growing period makes an increased supply or stock of nitrates. That is why the regeneration of lettuce and its further growth with clean water is possible. Before cooking, I recommend putting vegetables for 8-12 hours in a water. Change the water several times. The more often we change the better result. This will reduce the amount of harmfull nitrates in vegetables by 2-3 times. Drain water can be used for irrigation of flowers etc.

The same can be done with most vegetables such as Celery, Onions, and Spring Onions, Also, get a fresh Tomato, then slice it, then take one, or more slices, that still have the seeds in, then put each one face down in some compost, then cover them with some more compost, and keep them moist, then some new Tomato plants will soon start growing.

Will this work with spinach?
@anoptimist7779
@anoptimist7779 4 года назад
Kayla Schregardus:- It should do, just cut off the bottom third, and put it in a small container with some water that just covers the bottom third of your cutting, and after a few days, new leaves should start sprouting from the top, then a few more days, little white roots should start sprouting from the base of your cutting, that may the time you could plant it in your garden, then, if all goes well, it should eventually give you more spinach.

I've watched a few other videos of how to's on this subject and I want to say, you have done a spectacular job on your video! I really like how you've used the taller container with the net pot and went into such detail and showed such a span of growing time. And what a beautiful birding scene in the background :) Thank you so very much! Well Done!

that was the best regrow video I have seen. But the best parts were the birds behind the lady in the video. Those birds are just free and they are just a sight. The Letuce were Romain lettuce? 4 weeks they look so big.

Amazing!! I have a few queries 1. Did you add any fertilizer to the water? 2. Did you change entire water? 3. Can we do this for ice berg or butter lettuce?
@ErwinvanHolten

Tikkie is the Kratky expert, check out her other video she did on this. Fertilizer does help, water needs no replacement, avoid sunlight to roots. Tikki is the best. 🎉

8 aug 2024 6:56 pm est ( utc - 5 ) : 1:37 if lettuce sit on water-container then entire-water-renewal is being done every 1 day or every 2 day . i never change water for 2.5 month ( only refill water if water-level become low ) then my cabbage-on-water disintegrate but that cabbage-on-water succeed growing many leaf which become dead when my cabbage-on-water disintegrate .

How do I prevent my lettuce from turning brown? The old core is turning brown and I am on day 4 of growing lettuce in Mason Jars inspired by your video! The growth has been amazing, I am just worried about the browning of the core, and some of the new growth.
@chronos401
@chronos401 4 года назад
Sounds like water is seeping into the core. Standing water in this part will cause it to rot or rust.
@TikkiOOO

Try suspending in a net cup above the water so that just the base of the stump touches the water.
