rehabbing a few sad anthuriums in tree fern fibre 🤞🏼😣🤞🏼

I AM AN ANTHURIUM GOD and this video proves it (please read the sarcasm) Something went awry in anthurium land and I finally decided to do something about it after weeks of watching them slowly wither away 🙃 I also talk a bit about tree fern fibre (a substrate I'm still new to), how I prepare it, mix it with other amendments, and show a few plants doing pretty well in it so far! If you've been looking for a moss alternative, you might really like tree fern fibre so give this a watch!

Every time lately that I’ve watched your videos and I see your glass vassals I remember I’ve been wanting to go thrift shopping for vassals. And as soon as I’m done watching I forget again 😂😂

My first experience with fern fibre was when I propagated my Melanochrysum. I was shocked to see that the root system of the 1 month old prop was far superior to the mother plants roots which I had been growing for a year or so. These days I still use it as a propagation substrate while also adding it into my soil mix as well as using it in my u shaped poles instead of sphagnum moss. It may be too expensive or hard to get a hold of for you but if you get the chance to try it in your lazy poles I would highly recommend! I’ve also got many plants growing up solid fernwood poles & planks and let me tell you the aerial root growth is absolutely crazy! The poles are so low maintenance too I don’t have to keep them moist or anything and the plants have all gripped on so well!!

My entire 400+ plant collection is mostly in The Noot Mix which is perlite, coco coir, fibers, orchid bark, etc and the roots on my plants are exactly as you describe. Huge, thick, fluffy, fuzzy, and white 🤩🤩🤩

Charmaine, another interesting video. I don’t think that tff (tree fern fiber) is for me. I barely have tried perlite to prop things. That’s really expanding my universe. Lol. I just enjoy listening to you and no matter the subject, I always find it interesting. Could you give the proportions of the rooting hormone, cinnamon, and sulfur? Like what percentage of each. I’ve got rooting hormone but not the other two. And I’d like to do in my next Amazon order.

In the past month, I’ve been watching ✨EVERY✨ one of your videos from the oldest to the newest. So, sorry if you’ve answered this question in one of your most recent videos, but can you boil tree fern fiber like you do moss, pon, perlite and leca? I’ve recently started growing in passive hydro (inspired by you, to be quite honest) and that’s one of the things that has interested me the most about it, to be able to sterilize and reuse the substrates! But tree fern fiber appears to be quite (!!) expensive and I feel like I couldn’t justify the cost if I couldn’t reuse it, especially if it’s best used mixed with perlite and pon which would have to be thrown out with the tree fern fiber if there were to be pests. Best case scenario, you can sift those out, but I feel like it’d be quite the process. Anyway, just wondering what are your thoughts on this, but again, maybe you’ve addressed this in another video and I’ll find out once I’m caught up! 😂

I just went through with this situation like 3 hours ago. I could’ve taken a video too but I got lazy and just went ahead, felt like I had to rush oh well. I ran out of tree fern fiber. I’m hoping my Waroc survives. Mine is trying to acclimate from a plant mail few weeks ago.

Thank you for sharing, I always enjoy your videos🥰 For your anthuriums have you tried using only bark, chunky perlite, orchid bark, bio-char and very little sphag? Since the most important thing with anthuriums is air flow this mix could work. I use it for mine in the ikea cabinet… downside is having to water them more often even with the high humidity.

Do plants have the ability to make unlimited roots? (Similar to spent nodes for growth points). Like if you cut them back enough, could you get to the point it can’t produce anymore roots?

I'm currently at this stage 😂😅 everyone got chopped. My first plan was to put cuttings in pon and the originals would stay in soil....but then everyone was happy so I switched some more and those ones are notttt as happy. I didn't swap my AOS or my crazy money stuff but I want to so baddddd 😵‍💫👩🏼‍🔬 the scientist in me doesn't care that they're spendy and she really wants to see what happens. Why am I the way that I am?! 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

How do you sterilize/clean your pon mix after there’s been root rot in it?
@unplantparenthood
@unplantparenthood Год назад
You can either boil it, throw it in the oven or just leave it out in the sun! Just keep in mind that the slow release fertilizer that comes in lechuzapon bags are heat activated so I really only recommend sterilizing now if you plan to mix it into a much larger batch of fresh pon or if you made your own pon mix without slow release fertilizer.
