Just so that people understand: Gillot is not being taught the lead part to Swan Lake (she knows the part); rather, Plisetskaya is coaching Gillot in her particular approach to the role. A great honor, of course, to have an iconic dancer agree to give you a private coaching session!
Kudos to the very special skills of the pianist and translator here - playing and adjusting tempi and rhythms to meet the needs of the dancer while the translator communicates the nuances of Maya's advice or Gillot's questions as quickly and accurately as possible. So many skills on display here to facilitate the dance magic.👏
I have the feeling that Gillot change since that time. Her style of dancing was different. Very soft, very elegant more suitable for classical dance. I find that nowdays she is tougher, stronger and more suitable for contemporary dance

Она объясняла, что Одетта - это лебедь, заколдованная девушка, а Одиллия - настоящая девушка, порождение демона. И танцевала их по-разному . И зачем ей было знать языки, когда она в совершенстве владела универсальным языком - музыки и танца!
She does look lovely. I find it pleasing that she doesn't speak English: it's nice to have to invest some time in listening to a language other than English. Her Russian sounds beautiful. I'm amazed that Gillot seems to understand her which would mean that she speaks at least a few languages.

Technically this is usually considered the most difficult variation in all the classical repertoire, and she's performing an exceptionally difficult version at that!
The most difficult variation is the one from Grand Pad Classique. The "Lac" is the most difficult ballet. Odile's solo is not worth than Giselle first act solo, with the diagonale with petits ronds de jambes sautés sur pointe.
Just because Maya is going through the various arabesques with Gillot doesn't mean that she didn't know them to begin with; your comment is exceedingly silly.
@theamazingsoter Obviously, we all have our preferences in terms of dancers, and I've only seen her in videos. I think Gillot's very stiff in her upper body and even gawky although she's got great extension, legs and feet. She looks as if she might dance Balanchine very well but I dislike her Kitri and the Raymonda Grand Pas Classique. She doesn't get the style at all. There are a lot of dancers like her... great technique, athletic but no magic and not very expressive. Maya had the magic and more.
I can't help thinking how frustrating (or at least challenging) it must be for someone like Maya, for whom expression, phrasing and artistry meant everything, to watch a technically good but boring, unmusical dancer trying to be Odile, a role Maya danced more and better than anyone else.
OMG!!! Maya IS SHOWING her how to pose the Arabesques???? I thought this is something a Ballerina MUST know from the age of 6-7.....what a shame for Gillot...
Vanya Larose Maya showed her different arabesques... methods change, French Method has different arabesques, Royal is different and Vaganova is different, in the names... for example a third arabesque in Royal is the one with both arms extended front... but is not the same in Vaganova or Cechetti... she asks Gillot what she is used to and then shows her what she calls the different arabesques of Vaganova method... what she is really teaching her on the vid is the esence and the artist part of Odile... but Gillot is not expressive at all and that is a shame because she has great technique

Гиллот доброжелательная девушка, но очень скучная балерина. По крайней мере в этом отрывке. Майя и сейчас танцует изящнее неё. Но то, что Майя не знает ни одного языка, кроме родного, просто позор.
