Our chickens started disappearing and dying last month after so many years with no issues. We tried some quick temporary fixes to our chicken coop/duck cage, but when we were down to ONLY ONE CHICKEN, we realized we needed to make the time to really repair and reinforce our setup. On Josh's first free day, he led us in this project of moving the cages, adding more chicken wire, fixing holes, etc.
Then the following day, Josh bought another load of pea gravel from my cousin Nathan at Rock Hard Materials outside of Yoakum, TX. This is our first time trying gravel with the animals but they seem to like it and so do we! It's been a week and no predator has gotten in the cage to our animals. Tempe also started incubating more chicken eggs to build up our flock again (our last fertilized eggs from the day our rooster was killed and a batch from my Aunt Mary Ann) and we also found some Rhode Island Red chicks for sale to help us get started with the numbers. Unfortunately we couldn't find any laying hens for sale locally.
I'm just thankful to have this whole project done, and a wonderful family full of helpers to make everything easier and more fun!
