Laura I’ve been watching silently for like 6 years, but I want you to know now that you are an incredibly positive force in my life. Sounds weird because we don’t know each other but your excitement and caring make me strive to be excited and caring in my own work. Thank you for sharing your passion with us.

6:34 Some other comments already said this, but that "glass mesh" is partly plastic. Despite the name, "fiberglass" is plastic reinforced with glass fibers. Even Claytec's website says that the glass mesh has a "polymer finish", and "polymer" most often means plastic.

@alis49281
@alis49281 2 месяца назад
This is related to thermal insulation. Our window is 8 cm deep in the wall the windows turn open inside (no sliding!) so a 45° on the edges help to open it fully. Additionally: the insulation forms a triangle, which is beneficial for the temperature gradient towards the window.

I liked the walls with the clay panels installed but still showing their borders. It made it look as though you were all inside an Egyptian pyramid. Not sure how it would feel to live in one, though. Once those walls were covered and smooth, it took me to the adobe houses I've been in in New Mexico. Very cozy, strong, and inviting. So lovely!

I just got from a tour of Egypt and I couldn’t help but think of you when I saw all the ancient mud bricks. The Egyptians used to build mud brick ramps to haul their sandstone and granite bricks up to build temples and raise obelisks and solid columns. After, they’d disassemble and crumble the bricks and put them in fields for farming! They also made quick mud brick walls to surround temples in order to protect them from the Nile when it flooded annually. I love that we are still building with materials that our ancestors used over 5000 years ago!

Love the look of the walls. Not sure if it's as sustainable as plasterboard. After all gypsum is a natural abundant material, covered with paper. Paper can be manufactured in a sustainable way. Seems the whole system with the clay has a lot of manufacturing involed. The fibreglass mesh is plastic reinforced with glass. A plasterboard wall can have it's joins reinforced with paper tape.
@alwayslearning7672
@alwayslearning7672 2 месяца назад
Clay has many advantages over gypsum...the main one being it's hydroscopic -- it allows vapor and moisture to pass through is.Gyspum collects it.This is what natural houses are at all about. Everything must be vapor diffusion open. Clay regulates internal humidity and temperature ,is anti-static, absorbs toxins, neutralises odors,non toxic low in carbon, very good acoustic barrier and more...being the original building material which is the most abundant which can be reused. That said, Its disadvantages do not help modern builders at all really when time is money! It's not as predictable, random drying time , not so durable (but easily repaired)..does crack easily without some mesh.

After the next layer goes onto the wall, I believe some heavy drinking is in order. Since the entire interior is clay, I'd research tadelakt and oiled claay flooring. I know neither is traditional in Germany, but I believe they'd fit in well with the overall idea of the house.

These clay building materials are the same as Kristy uses in Portugal From Scratch, just in a more standardized format. On the Portugal from Scratch RU-vid channel, you can watch Kristy make apply handfuls of a mix of local clay and straw to form walls with rounded edges and accents. Kristy and Laura would be an interesting collab to promote the use of natural building materials.

Where I live, no drywall housing - every house is built with clay brick or breeze block and we either bash in a nail or drill and put in a Fischer plug & screw.
