Adding a subwoofer to any system increase the dynamics of the audio. Plus it gives the audio more impact and authority. Its like pepper for audio.

Wow, hey Kevin thanx a million, I've been seeing and learning a lot more about subs, and consistently I'm hearing great things about REL subs. But you broke it down on the absolutely undeniable fact about subs I see many don't believe understand. It's not just about bass but it's about also improving the upper range speakers performance. But I really appreciate your advice making it known a sub is a DIFFERENT animal and should be bought by those who specialize in making them! 🙏🏾👍🏾👍🏾thank you thank you!!!

I have two t5i's now. Paired to Tannoy xt6f's. After adding sub #2 , it sounded twice as good ,lol, yes, fuller & richer thicker sound. Love these subs. The room is about 200 sq. Feet , so it's a small place. Still trying to find the best location, but can only move short distances with them. But I'm happy I found Kevin & the Upscale Audio gang.🎶🎶

I had lascalas way back in black, all one piece. they were unreal speakers, but I had to add a subwoofer, then it was perfect. I had a Mcintosh mx113 preamp and a 250watt adcom amp. I sold this because my house was too small. so I bought a bigger house. just went to listen to the new al5 lascalas, it sounded muffled to me. thanx to my qsc speakers with dsp I guess I got spoiled over the years. I listened to the new klipshorn ak6 and was so impressed I bought them, no sub needed folks, also no corners needed , thanx to the enclosed new design. my amp is the nad 3800 solid state.....I liked this better than the Mcintosh 7200. and a hi end tube amp. I got a basement full of cds to play, when I get done with that I will subscribe to tidal hi def radio, sounds awesome. I miss my reel to reel tapes with all the meters by the way. those 10.5 inch metal reels were a sight to see, looks like its never coming back. I waited over 60 years for the Klipschorns, im ready now though.

Funny, if they milled the hole for that sub from each side, they wouldn’t have the distortion of the front baffle that you can see clearly in the reflection off the gloss. Attention to detail 😉

Looking forward to unboxing My Carbon Limited when I be back in Sweden. Bought the last one They had. So I was lucky. Currently, I use the S/3 SHO now, and it is a fantastic sub. But I got a strong feeling that the Carbon Limited is even better. Cheers from Sweden

I just got a pair of TAD Me1's. Whilst I do like the sound, they are missing that lower end. So when you do turn up the volume the berylium tweeter does start to come across as harsh on the start of voices. My room is 5x4. I'm in two minds to go for the t9i or the s3. So by allowing the subs to take up a lot of the lower end the speaker won't have to work so hard and the tweeter won't scratch so much. This is the right approach ?

@@labalo5 I have been without music for a month, a valve went and I had to wait for my man to surface to bias it. I have just set it up today and forgot how good ithey sound. I’ve put a few good hours on them since I last posted. They have broken in nice. I will,say that some recordings do sound harsh, but the majority are just great. Still using a CD player. I have purchased an Auralic g2 streamer and I’m waiting for my aes cable to come from Europe. I also pulled the trigger on a pair of Rel S/510’s. The guy knocked £400 of for the pair. I picked those up only last week. I will get them set up over the next week and see if I can integrate them in the only place they can go. Which is in between the speakers and the extra wide hifi rack which houses my tv. It’s not ideal, so I’ll be hanging the tv on the wall and shortening the rack.. I shall get back to you and tell you all about it 😃

str1xt I’m very interested to hear what you have to say as a first impression and final result. The tad me-1 are amazing. And while the argument could be made that they don’t need a sub. I will argue that a sub will overall enhance the listening experience on virtually any speaker even on pure dialog. Let me know how it goes!!

@@labalo5 Jeff Fritz at Soundstage ultra summed it up and had me sold on stereo subs reviewing these he said, “Give me an afternoon and a pair of JLA Fathom f212v2s and I have no doubt I could weave together a sound that would rival anything at any cost”. Costly subs, but after speaking to the guys at Rel I was told that the t9i would be great, but the 510’s would be head and shoulders above them. I didn’t take much convincing.

@ArnoldVroomans

Ask Rel themselves...probably they will advise much lower... my guess 45 Hz.
@FOH3663
@FOH3663 5 лет назад
There are no optimal x-overs for a particular sub/speaker pairing that anyone, including REL can give you. It depends on your room dimensions, sub/sat distances from boundaries, distances from each other, seating position, etc. Measurement is a must for sub integration.
@rohanshrikhande4582
@rohanshrikhande4582 5 лет назад
Sly foxxx The t5i works really well in my mid-sized apartment. I had a larger Monitor Audio sub before, the Rel is much better IMO. It fills out the sound of the LS50’s with clean, powerful bass and gives the system a deeper soundstage. The Monitor was boomier and didn’t integrate with the speakers nearly as well. Those are the only subs I’ve had though, so not sure how the Rel compares with JL, SVS, Rythmik, etc.

@@andrewcoonradt If you think BOSE is over priced, those horrible big fat speakers that are like 3 ft high and 4 ft wide and 2 ft deep (look like 1970's hippy speakers) are JBL's and cost like 50 grand a pair. They make a single (stereo) cabinet speaker called the Paragon at a similar price. You can buy refurbished Paragons for 50 grand. lol

Do they make it cubic inside the box? Would an odd shape be better?
@FOH3663
@FOH3663 5 лет назад
Good question The freq range being reproduced by the sub have large enough wavelengths that the cabinet shape is irrelevant. As long as the cabinet is sufficiently constructed/braced and is sized appropriately for it's design, it's all good. The energy (big wavelengths) inside the box doesn't propagate freely, the pressure simply varies relative to cone position. All that said, distortion artifacts higher in freq may have wavelengths significantly small enough to have wave propagation, but the typical internal damping material/stuffing would address that.
@Justwantahover
@Justwantahover 5 лет назад
@@FOH3663 Box too small to resonate, cos the waves are bigger than the box.
@FOH3663
@FOH3663 5 лет назад
@@Justwantahover Correct Can't even propagate normally. The internal energy does affect the driver, but not in a way that could be addressed with angled cabinet walls etc.

That, with a set of those expensive KEF Uni Q bookshelf speakers, would sound good (for 8 grand).

Rel is not the best subwoofer brand. They're marketed as being something more than they are but they're pretty whatever... Nothing special about them... Not even their piano finishes which just jack up their prices are special. You can add that to many subs.

I think so, but China does make some kick ass stuff. They will build crap if that is what you pay them to do though, and many companies do send their production to China as ask to build it as cheap as possible. I do not think REL is in that category.

 Neil Leisenheimer even my 400€ Bowers Wilkins and entry level Neumann KH80 has DSP and makes wonders. My Genelec G5 has no DSP, sucks big time in non acoustically threated rooms. REL is a rip off and makes no sense for casual living rooms only with heavy modification of my saloon. Meridian 5200 is my goal. No need for subwoofer & amp. DSP is the key. Some Genelec model has it, which is amazing. I won't buy anything without digital signal processing. Hope Klinger Favre or ATC or BowersWilkins will introduce DSP in the future years.
