Tom Cruise may have been harsh to those PAs or he was completely justified in yelling at them. Let us know what you thought!

I'm really glad that Tom spoke out about people not wanting to wear masks and not taking Covid seriously. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind especially if its something that's as serious as Covid. We all need to work together in order to stop the spread of Covid and by more people speaking out about the importance of wearing masks and the prevention of the virus, people will realise just how important and serious this issue is.

One thing you have got to acknowledge about TC is that he has passion. He’s always all-in and right now he is carrying the weight of so many people’s livelihoods. I’d be pissed too. I’m pissed when I see people in the supermarket who have the mask pulled off their nose. Seeing people lucky enough to be employed at this moment in time being that lax about the rules should have been a sackable offense. Also sometimes people are just tired y’all and just have no room left to deal with other people’s shit.

That's exactly what I like about him, his passion and love of his craft, but I really can't respect what he did to his ex-wife and the cult he's a part of.

^^ It's a damn shame he hasn't managed to find a way out for himself, somehow. Even if he didn't believe it to be complete bull from the beginning (which he surely must have), there had to have been opportunities, meh.

As someone who works in post-production VFX, my job comes when the on-set production is finished. If it gets delayed or shut down, so will my job later on. So I appreciate and respect TC in this situation. It was harsh but he was correct in the message and how it was delivered in my opinion.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said about COVID. I personally HATE wearing masks because I'm Autistic and it's an additional layer of sensory hell for me to process on top of every other little sound and sensation that bombards me 24/7, but I put one on anyways because I know that if we all wear masks and follow the rules there's a possibility this all can be over before 2022. I think Tom's method of getting his point across was a little harsh, but I don't blame him for going off AT ALL. He was frustrated, and I would be too if I were in his shoes.

Definitely gave me flashbacks to Christian Bale and I’ve heard from many people that the DP that Bale yelled at is actually a jerk himself which many actors don’t like working it. Still doesn’t excuse Bale’s temper which he owned up to on the radio on Kevin & Bean. Weird part was the filming was in 2008 for terminator and the audio leaked in 2009 when the movie was close to premiering. I know some stunt people who have worked on films with Bale and they all say he’s really kind, generous and doesn’t act like a diva/movie star at all.

Geeetings, storyteller! Yes, you! What is Relater? Relater is a community spread out over multiple platforms including RU-vid, social media and Patreon. It’s a conduit for those seeking ways to creatively tell their stories through shared experiences. Each piece of content we have is designed with one of, if not all three, of these components. entertainment, education, community. We do this through our podcasts, lets plays, creative workshops Or to put it another way: Talk. Game. Play. Come hang! 🤘🏻😜

He was harsh but justified. Some people are saying that he should have "taken them aside" and reprimanded them privately BUT the production was already shut down twice before due to COVID so uh.... I'm pretty sure we were past the nice "talking to" portion.

I agree with TC, and I think is a shame he had to remind everyone about it and even a bigger shame when there are people that there's no talking to, you have to yell and throw a couple of curse words to get a simple message across. It's just my personal opinion. Stay safe everyone.

The thing that neither the article or the audio shows is how many times Tom had reminded these people to maintain COVID safety before. At my job I've had it where the same people keep on ignoring the same rules and I've started by saying "Yo, guys 2 metre rule." which they've continued to ignore, gone to management and said "You need to be keeping a lid on this and reminding people what we have to do." which had no effect, until it boiled over and I ended up getting angry and saying "Look, you either put your mask on and start abiding by these rules, otherwise you'll be fired, or worse the business will shut and everyone will be fired because you lack any courtesy or common-sense." and since then they've been better (though not perfectly) behaved. Unfortunately some people only seem capable of responding to anger rather than kindness or compassion. From what I've heard about Tom Cruise, I wouldn't be suprised if he'd attempted to take a cool approach to keeping the set safe and been pushed to his boiling point before screaming.

I'm really glad that Troy had a chance to discuss this topic. I can understand part of the equation from an outsider's point of view, but since Troy has been in the middle of productions similar to that, I would think that he could bring a better insight that most of us wouldn't be able to acknowledge. And it is as Troy said, Tom Cruise is part of production, he is one of the last lines of accountability on the crew. It comes back to him. If the production gets shut down due to an outbreak, that's also on him.

People are dying out there and not taking this seriously. Folks I’ve personally known have gotten very ill to this virus in the environment I work in and some who are still unaffected are so hypocritical in many instances. I’m on the verge of having a melt down myself. People have always been blind and don’t care when it concerns their own beliefs. I love you Troy and I appreciate your wisdom regarding this situation. It’s one of those I wish I was there to better understand the situation but I back Tom even if he maybe was a bit over the top depending on the circumstances

damn i love the insider info on Christian's rant. I also work in the film industry and I've always stood on Christian's side, for one he's stated that this was not the first or second time he's spoke to Shane about the issue and secondly Shane's the bloody dp! That's a pretty senior position he really should've known better. It absolutely blows my mind that he just continued going about his business as if it wasn't an issue. Thanks for the context

@heoplus

I fully agree with the message he was saying but not necessarily with the delivery of it. Half of my family is in the film industry and they have already had multiple productions shut down multiple times because of Covid positive tests. As you mentioned those few people not following the rules affects the jobs of hundreds of people. They are left wondering if they will have a job to come back to if production starts up again. I think him being in the position that he is in, he is well within his right to be the one addressing the issue, as other people don't have the same power as him. On the one hand I fully understand that the yelling was born out of frustration. He mentions that he had talked to the people previously and so it seemed like this was the last straw. However I also think that it should have been said privately to those two people. I get very uncomfortable with people yelling their problems to a room full of people, when you are really only angry at a few of them. It forces everyone who is following the rules to also listen to the rant, and it affects the moral for everyone else.
@stevendiaz4104
@stevendiaz4104 3 года назад
I'm going to have to disagree on the idea the delivery of the message was inappropriate. Yelling is a tool, one to be used sparingly, and after 9 months of being told covid safety protocol there's nothing really left but public shaming. Time and time again it's been shown there is a subset of people who will not take precautions seriously of their own volition no matter how soundly worded the argument. After hearing Troy's description of protocol measures on sets just to avoid shutdowns and hearing the tape, those on the receiving end got off light as they got a warning. Imagine a crew member flaunting protocol for firearms on set or flaunting protocol on a shot involving pyrotechnics, things that require overt and much more stringent safety rules. Wear a mask; stand six feet apart. My day job is wholly different industry but the guiding principle is this: If you can't follow the simple rules how can you be trusted to follow more complicated rules?

Like, I’m sorry. But who is against Tom here? Let’s bear in mind that he was warning them, he wasn’t firing them, he was giving them a stern warning for violating covid safety rules. Everything about what he was saying is justified... So what is anyone upset about? That a couple of poor, defenseless ADULTS were yelled at by their boss for breaking the rules?? A man yelled at them, boo fucking hoo. I’m sorry, but please don’t white knight for these guys, they’ll fucking get over that someone was vocally angry at them for something they did wrong. As for Tom, this really isn’t a slight on his character at all, in fact I admire him MORE after hearing this, because this was a private conversation in which he makes it clear that he cares not just about his craft, but for the industry and the people working in it. And it is ALWAYS so refreshing when an uber-talented, uber-wealthy and high-status person shows everyone (unintentionally no less) that they’re not out of touch, that they’re so lucidly aware of the state of the world around them and that they care about the little guys. Fuck his religious beliefs, but I love this man.

I'm not in the movie or entertainment industry. In fact, I work IT for a frontline industry... not medical.i work for Kroger... Grocery store. You may know your lical store by the name Ralphs or Food4Less or Smiths or Fred Meyers or any one of a dizen names.They are all Kroger stores. I am not in the stores. I work from home. And once a week I get my groceries and I see fools refusing to wear masks and making stupid excuses and scenes about their personal rights. And I cant help but think that if everyone had that attitude entire stores would be shut down because the entire staff could end up quarantined or worse, actually sick. And all their families are put at risk by each of these covidiots. And all the sanitation crew would be affected, and all the vendors, all the transpo and supply chain crews in our warehouses and distribution centers who see our production teams and food plants (yes Kroger has multiple food production plants, creameries and packaging plants) our fuel transportation crews might come into contact with others at distribution centers, district offices, regional offices, the main offices (which is why they are having as many of us work from home as possible) What I'm saying is that it's not just a store that might get shutvdown making it harder to get food or toilet paper or whatever flies your particular kite...a lot pf people like me are working and grateful to be working no matter how stressful or tense it gets. Have the common courtesty to show them a little respect in the stores to wear a damn mask for the 10 minutes to an hour you'll probably be in their proximity. It doesnt hurt you. It might even protect you too. It's no different from having the same courtesy of covering your mouth/nose when you sneeze.

I think Tom was right in a way,he didn't handle it the best way but as he'll be a producer on this movie then he's under pressure to make sure all the rules are followed and he should have pulled up these guys for not following a policy that's in place to make sure they can make the movie and it could worst case scenario have closed production down

I just heard about the incident I actually don't blame Tom Cruise I mean yes he probably could have handled it better, but sometimes you just gotta be strong and put your foot down and tell people how it's gonna be, but I think it's good that he's taking safety precautions seriously. At least it's not as bad as Mel Gibson being recorded screaming and making racist hateful remarks I remember that.

@sheffield207
@sheffield207 3 года назад
First off, the crew of a TC movie isn't making minimum wage. A PA is making more. Second, he's angry because a member of his crew isn't taking covid seriously and if they don't take it seriously then the shoot gets shut down and all of those crew members you are defending lose their jobs. And third, he is right. Every production right now is trying to get off the ground and work safely so if one is doing it successfully, people are calling to know how they're handling covid safely. He isn't saving the movie industry but he's helping the industry get back on it's feet safely.

The other studios have turned to Tom about how they can film movies so he's helping them by showing them how they are doing it with mission impossible, this film is like the blueprint to other studios on how they can film etc during a Pandemic. Plus insurance company can point blank shut down mission impossible if rules are broken meaning staff lose their jobs as it would be very costly to shut down.
