Recently, it's been going from "Fish Fear Me" to "I Fear Fish" with the amount of fish related horror games I've seen on this channel

Based on all the horror games around it, fishing must be the most terrifying hobby known to man.

A few fun facts: the Oblivion ending seems to be based on Azathoth, the Blind Idiot God. All of reality is all His dream, and if He ever wakes up, not only will everything be gone, it will have never existed. This game just replaces Azathoth with the King in Yellow, possibly a smaller dream/pocket dimension/etc. The King in Yellow's "real" name is Hastur, and while most eldritch horrors are actually apathetic to humanity and their existence, he is one of the few that is actually hostile to humanity. He also likes to body hop, like what would happen if you kept doing this game's first ending over and over again.

I think the reason that the concept of fishing is made into a horror game is because it's one of the most mundane pastimes. Anyone can give you a darkened hallway and tell you it's haunted, or that vampires live in the woods at night, but try convincing someone that fishing is scary? Not gonna happen so easily

Here's the translation for the assimilation ending text in case anyone was curious: Text box 1: (Y)ou have brought me offering Text box 2: (Y)ou shall be assimilated with the chosen vessel Text box 3: (B)ecome one with (T)he (K)ing (I)n (Y)ellow This would confirm that the fisherman in the hut is the king in yellow, who's purpose is to "guide new hosts to the ascension", which is why in the oblivion ending, everything returns to nothing (since I think we're in the dream he's dreaming? so killing him ends the dream) In case you were curious about the text: it's just a font. This means that very letter corresponds to a symbol, but uppercase letters are different from the lowercase so I can only fully confirm the lowercase ones. All of the ones in parentheses are ones that I filled in the blanks for, but they're easy to fill in w/o looking at the text (but ig you can check using the king in yellow page, im just lazy lol). kind of an interesting set of symbols, but they're kind of a pain to write by hand. cool factor does redeem it tho

Wow great vid, thanks for playing! You really picked up on a lot of the underlying themes. For context this was made in 10 days so it's missing things and is kinda buggy. I'm hoping to make a full version of this in the future that's more polished and fleshed out.

The most impressive thing about this game, the characters (at least fish) have more than 2 dialogs when you talk to them, 2 dialogs is like some sort of tradition.

I don't know what it is with all these fishing horror games but I'm all for it. As much as we like to make jokes about fishing and how boring or how eager some people are about it. It is an untapped gold mine for horror and terror.

12:05 _"You have brought me an offering_ _You shall be assimilated with the chosen vessel_ _Become one with The King In Yellow"_ I was looking at those symbols, and I was like "hey, I've seen those somewhere," so I checked them with the notes you make in the Dread X Collection 2 game, Charlotte's Exile, where you have to translate an eldritch book into English and they matched! There were some symbols I didn't recognize, but I figured they were capital letters since they were at the beginning of sentences / names (apparently King In Yellow is indeed capitalized).

That PS1 opening almost gave me a nostalgia overdose... they even used 90% of the original theme...

I think the idea is that 'existence' as we know it is all just the old one's dream; so once it wakes up (which the fisherman was preventing) we essentially stop existing, the same way characters in our dream essentially stop existing when we awaken.

"The King in Yellow" is a collection of short stories, 4 of which involve a play by the same name. If the play is read, the reader descends into madness. Great reference work by the devs.

This game is actually kinda super pretty, could see it being a larger release with more areas and junk!

A longer version of this would be nice to see, but what's here is still fun. The name of the lake kind of clues you in that things aren't what they seem, but I wasn't expecting where it would go. I can tell they put effort into that book, the animation for turning the pages was solid.
