Wow, you have lots of Monarch caterpillars! I have noticed ladybugs, eggs and nymphs on my asparagus, they just show up naturally. I get aphids on a few decorative bushes nearby, so I keep the bushes pruned well away from the veggies so they don't spread. In the wild I see lots of ladybug nymphs on long grass.

Love it. I get ladybugs now just by having aphids on plants. I keep some plants around just to host aphids. I noticed ladybugs also have preferences on which plants they like to hang out in and it is not always the same plant as the aphids. So I try to put plants the ladybugs like, such as chrysanthemums and asparagus ferns and dill near the aphd plants. Definitely no chemicals and lots of dead sticks, leaves, etc for bugs to live in.
Great points. Thanks Please visit my seed shop www.therustedgarden.com for Your Fall Garden Seeds and Supplies. Search keyword 'fallgarden' to bring up a a fall seed sale list. Those look like the pesty/ stinky orange Asian Beetles rather then the lovely red American Lady Bugs. Some people dont realize there is a difference...but there definitely is. The Asian beetle has only been around since the 1960's when the dept of Ag. brought them here to help with crop pests, but these bite humans and they also produce a very stinky nasty smell. Not to mention if your pet eats one it can make them sick. The red American Lady bugs 🐞 are native to America and they do not bite or stink. ❤🐞 Both will take care of the aphid problem.... but I much prefer the nice American Lady bugs. (And it's a shame because now days you see fewer and fewer of them and more and more of the Asian beetles)

Hello from Japan! Those are definitely US lady bugs 😉. Asian lady beetles have many more spots and are not as vibrantly red. Trust me, I know. They ate my eggplants this year 😂😂😂!
They are orange though and have white on their face. Our lady bugs are much more red then that and no white. So I'm 99.9 % he has the Asian. Plus I read that the Asian dont always have alot of spots anyway. Sometimes they have no spots even.
Hello from Japan! What a great video. I miss US lady bugs. We have Japanese lady beetles that eat my plants 😂😂😂. You have such a peaceful, beautiful garden Gary 😍!
That's not Butterflyweed...that's *Tropical Milkweed* True butterflyweed has flowers that are ALL orange and it's Latin name is *"Asclepias TUBEROSA"* Please replace it with a native variety bc tropical milkweed doesn't die back like native ones do, which leads to the build up of a parasite known as OE which can kill or cripple Monarch Butterflies 😟

Ya... I dont know Gary. You want to control aphids by growing flowers that attract MORE aphids? Just so the LB's have a better chance of not flying off? Sounds counterproductive too me.
It does. But those tiny aphids cant fly. There is a larger on that typically does. So if you invite the egg layer to a nice place, they usually stay. A single ladybug eats thousands. So in the end I like my odds. Please visit my seed shop www.therustedgarden.com for Your Fall Garden Seeds and Supplies. Search keyword 'fallgarden' to bring up a a fall seed sale list. You have to create the whole cycle in order to get the benefits! Also he has planted them away from his main veg garden to further aid in removal of aphids from were you don’t want them.
@@THERUSTEDGARDEN What motivates ladybugs to leave the staging area? If all of their food sources and their home is there, wouldn't they just stay there and not go to your garden? Or is it just a "chances" thing because you'll be releasing so many ladybugs?
I have been watching through the summer. and hopefully you can help me with this matter of mushrooms. I rent and lawn care bought in on equipment. Any advice would be a blessing .... Sincerely,. Am Saving 🙏🙏
I've read watering your plants you want them to cling to helps. A watering can would be an easy way to do it. Aphids are an indicator of too much nitrogen.

@Gary Pilarchik... THANK U FOR ALL UR HARD WORK... Hi i messed up really bad like a dummy smdh... I was sprayinq for Thrips. I saw a video sayinq for Thrips.. use 2-5 TBSP of Dawn Dish Soap per Gallon of Water. First off i messed up because i accidentally used Dawn ULTRA... Which i think is 3xs Stronqer? Instead of startinq low at 2 TBSP... I was an idiot & said "oh 4 TBSP is better just to make sure its stronq enouqh", not realizinq that its ULTRA 2-3 xs Stronqer! So if i used 4 TBSP per Gallon of ULTRA Dawn... does that mean i pretty much used 8-12 TBSP of Reqular Dawn per Gallon? Anyway i sprayed them indoors under a t8 flourescent fixture about 4 feet from canopy.. (weak liqht). I feel like an idiot tbh.. im supposedly a smart intelliqent dude but i f....d up here smdh!... Anyway.. most of my leaves qot burned. I washed them with Plain Water with Vitamin B1 once i saw the Burnt Leaves smh. To make everythinq as worst as possible to the MAXIMUM!.. kuz yea im an idiot.. i also sprayed the topsoil of these potted plants to rid the soil of any buqs smdh.. not very heavily but enouqh to most likely reach the danq top roots of the plant & most likely riqht at the main stem base... I know!.. it sounds Stupid! And seems like im purposely tryinq to kill them... thus im an idiot... Conclusion.. my plants are burnt badly! to the point where like 90% of the leaves are burnt horribly! Almost lookinq Dead But some stems are Erect while some are wilted & dead/dyinq. *** I REALLY DONT WANT THEM TO DIE SMH.. *** CAN I SAVE THEM ASAP? I cant really flush the soil because my setup doesnt allow for it tbh... plus they were just fully watered & if i did.. theyd for sure die from addinq overwaterinq to the equation (i think) but i sure can qive them PLAIN WATER WITH VITAMIN B1 on the next waterinqs. *** Oh i also sprayed the foliaqe with Plain Water & Vitamin B1 to try to help qive moisture throuqh Foliar Spray incase i BURNT MY ROOTS DEAD? SMH.. PLEASE HELP ASAP. ANYBODY KNOWLEDGABLE PLEASE REPLY ASAP... 😔😖😡
At this point I’d just leave them be and wait. If you want to try everything a seaweed solution seems to be the best imo for bouncing sick or weak plants back to good health.
@@ashc3765 thats what i was thinkinq. I used to use a bottled Alqamic Seaweed liquid. It worked qood. The only seaweed stuff i have rn is Sea Kelp Powder but it doesnt dissolve riqht in the water... Can i use that?.. what is the best way to make a tea with it if it doesnt dissolve riqht? Should i heat it in a pot with water like an actual tea & ensure it dissolves fully like that... then let it cool down to room temp & apply it via foliar spray? Thank u. Anybody knowledqable Please reply asap.
SMERKUZHEO G just mix the products according to instructions on the bottle. If you have a bit of trouble getting them to mix just give it a good shake but I wouldn’t heat it. If the seaweed doesn’t fix your plants I doubt anything else will. Also do a ph test to make sure the soap hasn’t changed it to much but most soaps are PH neutral so it should be fine.
@@ashc3765 ok thanx very much. The only thinq is that the Kelp Powder has No instructions.. i buy it from Sprouts in Bulk powder form meant for humans to eat. Il look up a recipe
The lady beetles' eggs look like a cluster of yellow eggs on the underside of the leaves. I personally like the lady beetle nymphs more. They look like little alligators. Also they don't fly away. Milkweed also gets spider mites. Very easy to get rid of. Just like Gary says, with a blast of water on the underside of the leaves. I've been raising monarchs for years now. Just wanted to mention that little bit of information. Thanks for adding to the monarch population Gary!☺🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

Thanks for the video. I think you're right. I was disappointed when all my lady bugs seemed to fly away, but they had laid eggs in the packing which I left in the garden. That was quite a while ago and I still have their descendents every spring. They do like to over winter in trees and old wood.

is there a list of plants that are common that attract aphids? would be a good plant to hide away to sustain predator bugs. on another note, im finding dead flies on my dill. i know dill attracts some kind of small parasitic wasp that attacks flies.

Angela. You can release lady beetles any time of the year. You might have trouble finding them in the fall when it is cooler. I'm not sure. I've only had to do that 2 times in the past 5 years. I have decendants of those still in my area and they come back every year. Aphids are more present in the warmer weather I have found.
