While I am no expert in Islamic practice, I have read quite a bit on the subject. This is the first lecture that I've listened to in a while that really covered new territory for me.

Very informative, thanks for sharing. - I would like to add one thing, the three Holy cities were probably first under the same ruler in around 637-678 AD when Caliph Umar sieged Jerusalem and was under Muslim Ruler (either Caliph or Sultan From Madinah/Baghdad) until the first Crusade, that happened in 1096-99.

Listening to him talk about the Arab Spring I and II and perhaps III, I'm reminded of earlier discussions about the demise of European communism. There was Hungary 56, Czechoslovakia 68, Solidarity in Poland and finally the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The Ottoman empire was the caliphate. Prof. Bulliet is exactly as he titles his book 'fringe' and viewing from the edge looking inward from an outward position as a foreigner, the exact same way people who live in North Korea or Russia might see the West and try to describe it. Listen to him only to know how the West messed up the situation in the Middle East but his professorships not withstanding he knows nothing else on the topic. He gets a number of things inaccurate or wrong. Though he may get some things right, take his words with a grain of salt.

the caliphate(khilafat) only last 30years after the death of prophet(peace be upon him). after those 30 years there is begining of kingdom there was a king not a caliph afterwards until the end of empire ....

In Islam it's well understood that the caliphate is not a birth right as the prophet did not declare that his son's should rule after him. there's no divine authority given to anyone besides the prophets. And by the actions of the rightly guided companions of the prophet the matter should be considered amongs the learned and they should appoint someone from amongst themselves and pick the best person for the job as the companions did, the fact that later down the line some of the caliphs decided to appoint their sons doesn't mean that it's a birth right. Shia is a tiny minority of Muslims who's beliefs are not based on the traditional understanding rather it was a political movement which turned in to religious movement. The reason there isn't a caliph is because the Muslims are fractured by nationalism and there have been attempts to unify but the Americans intervened

21:00 This incident is not documented in any of the most authentic Islamic books, In fact, it's not found in any Arab history book . hence, It's a crusader's total lie.

This is the first time I hear this, but I need to make sure if it's true or not. Because, while I trust that Islam is perfect, I can't say the same for Muslims after the 1st century A.H.

Was it not John Locke who said why can't Europe coexist like how the Ottomans has been inclusive. Per Roy Casagranda said in one if his talk, the majority of subjects in Muslim lands were non-Muslims. So there's no restriction in the scriptures for being inclusive, it actually encourages it.

I haven't watched the video but I got fascinated by the title as it says from the Rashidun Caliphate to the Islamic Brotherhood which I totally disagree with. If you ask the majority of people in the Arab / Islamic world you'll find that they don't support the Islamic Brotherhood because they do not represent Islam correctly and from personal experience I could say that they use Islam as a tool for political goals and I hope that nobody actually believes that they are some kind of inheritors of the Islamic culture and I know that I might be overgeneralising and I know that some of them are good people however I totally believe that they are using Islam as a tool for politics in order to achieve their goals and to say that they are the current leaders of Islam like the Caliphates while dismissing the Kings and Sheikhs in Arabia is strange

I sometimes think that mythology or religion expresses a hope in human potential. They also claim all kinds of things that seem to be very unlikely (Risen Christ, hairy thunderbolt throwers etc.)

Caliphate/khilafat in all the Muslim world or otherwise is only ended till 670 to 680 after the greatest Majesty of Prophet Muhammad S.A.A.W has accepted the mortal passing to Allah the Almighty. After that is Kingdomship in Islam. Sultanante ordaining is self assumed not granted like in letter terms. The conquering of places is done a general of Caliph/khilafat so the speaker has focused on extrmely biased sources

Allah (God) stated in the Holy Koran in numerous verses that the name of the religion of all the prophets of Allah is one: Islam. The 124,000 prophets and messengers of Allah are all Muslims including ABRAHAM, MOSES, JESUS AND MOHAMMAD PEACE BE UPON THEM. THEY ALL CAME WITH THE SAME MESSAGE: ONENESS AND UNITY OF THE CREATOR, ALLAH. THIS MEANS THAT THE UNITARIAN CHURCH CHRISTIANS AND OTHER CHRISTIANS AND JEWS WHO BELIEVE IN ONE GOD ARE MUSLIMS.

Brother it doesn't work like that in Islam. People get leaders as the people are. The case of Nabi(saw) is different. Even in the case of Nabi(saw) the first state was established in Madina, where the people followed Islam in its entirety.
