As an Oregonian, I can say that it is truly a wonderful state to live in with a good quality of life. My only advice is to stay as far away from Portland as possible. I lived there for many years but recently moved to the coast to get away from the urban degradation and squalor.

Hello fellow Jesse, I totally see where you’re coming from. Portland has changed a lot. While there are definitely issues that need to be improved, I can still see how PDX could be the right fit for certain people. I’m glad you found the right fit for you! Have you seen my video about the Coast? It has some beautiful drone footage.

Portland has deteriorated considerably in recent years. Liberal politics have legalized street drugs and defunded police. It resulted in rampant crime with cars getting broke into and also stolen. Theft is epidemic at residences. Property taxes are sky high, homeless people are everywhere..

@OregonLivingwithJessyRose rise in home cost happens in areas where it becomes overpopulated. It's not just due to the economy. Been living in Oregon since 2005. Prices were affordable for the first 5 years as we saw rent go up pretty fast after 2010, while people from mostly California started moving in, driving the prices way up.

Hello Jessie Again Can You Do A Video On All Major Hospitals Within 2 Hours Of The Capital Of Oregon And Or Portland? Trying To Get An Idea Of Where To Start My First Home Process In This New Region 😊
@OregonLivingwithJessyRose
@OregonLivingwithJessyRose Год назад
Give me a call and we can discuss- two hours from Salem and Portland opens up a huge area, it's about 2 hours West to the Coast, so you would be good all along the top half of the Coast. Going East, there are hospitals in Hood River and The Dalles. The mountain range blocks you from travelling East two hours from Salem, so you would be looking mostly South to Roseburg. There are Hospitals all along the I5 towns, so Roseburg, Eugene, Corvallis. Each of those towns has a unique culture and the medical centers would as well. 541-993-5936 is my number, call or text any time!

Oregon is a great place to live but their financial management is really bad. They bring a lot of tax money to Salem but the distribution is not fair. If you have a home on the coast, you pay the tax but you do not get the fire, health, highway, or zoning protection that you deserve. The state regulates the zoning beyond the power of the county and it minimizes the benefits to the counties. The resources of the state are amazing but the people in charge do not no how to handle it. Timber and agriculture create tons of money which is used to enforce a failing economy in Portland. Iguana

I love Oregon. My nephew and his wife live there. My aunt lives in Washington just over the Colubia River. I would love to relocate, however, my concern is that I am a teacher. I have looked at prices of rentals and everything seems very expensive on a teacher's salary. Do you have any information regarding affordable housing that is safe and near the coast in Oregon? I also have a concern with the amount of homeless people living in the area. I grew up near a big city and this is something you see but the smaller cities in Oregon seem to have been taken over by homeless encampments. It makes me sad to see this becuase if is such a beautiful area. Also, did Oregon decriminalize drugs? These are topics that make me wonder about moving.
@OregonLivingwithJessyRose
@OregonLivingwithJessyRose Год назад
Hello Anne! Every town is different, but I do not see many homeless encampments in smaller towns, or towns along the Coast. This is likely because they don't have the services there that are available in Portland, Salem, Eugene, etc. As far as decriminalization, if a person is found with a small amount of drugs, they receive a ticket and the option of substance abuse treatment and counseling, rather than being put in Jail. Each town is totally different as far as teacher's salary and housing. I suggest narrowing it down to a few towns along the Coast that you are interested in, and focusing your search there. If you want to buy, you can search here: jessyrose.totalbendrealestate.com/. If you want to rent, I suggest googling property management companies, and contacting them. Good luck and let me know if I can help!

Do you see the housing market subsiding and becoming more realistic? Seems like over the past 3-5 year period people started asking 2x - 3x the price they paid for a home, driving prices through the roof.
@OregonLivingwithJessyRose
@OregonLivingwithJessyRose 11 месяцев назад
All of the economists I follow do not see the inflation correcting for several years. I have seen prices steady, but not necessarily decline very much. Properties are definitely staying on the market longer, instead of being snatched up in a few days. While these things do help buyers some, I just don’t see home prices reverting to what they were before Covid. I know it’s very discouraging, but try and remind yourself that we have been here before! It’s really difficult for first time homebuyers, but those who have been in the market for longer have rode the ups and downs. Real estate is still a good investment especially compared to current rental prices.
@brianmckenzie1318
@brianmckenzie1318 11 месяцев назад
Thank you so much for the comments! Yes the market is a little crazy, but if you sell and are planning to buy a new home, you'll be faced with the same high prices. So guess it's a catch 22. We are lucky in the fact that we would be selling a home and then buying, so that helps tremendously. I do worry about the kids starting out though. Our kid will be out of college in a couple of years and wonder what the market will look like for him. Love OR, especially the Hood River area. Had to be a least 15 years since we've been there (we are in NC). Was good to catch up with friends and see how everything has changed!

Great question! It definitely depends on where you are in Oregon. Central, Eastern, and Southern Oregon do have snowy winters, whereas the "valley" or I-5 Corridor from Portland down to Eugene tends to have mild weather. Pendleton certainly doesn't have weather like this EVERY year, but some winters are colder than others. It won't last long! I hope you're staying warm!

I would seriously consider coming for an extended stay visit before considering the move to Oregon. Best to check it out during its less than desirable fall winter seasons to get a real understanding of grey gloomy rain wet and depressing climate that will be a majority of the months of the year. Also be certain to actually research the communities surrounding the area you are considering. Forget Portland or Salem both are pretty much a lost cause hell on earth. But if you enjoy the Seattle style "Chaz" lifestyle, just on a spread out city wide version, then you may actually enjoy either of these larger cities and communities. Anything west of I-5 corridor to the ocean communities would be best to be very leary about and do a lot of homework on why these towns communities are as sparse and isolated as they appear to be. Youll be shocked on who, how they are dictated and ran. City council and local government are usually very left wing liberalism heavy. And the Boss Hogs of these communities dont like giving up control by having a lot of newer non-conforming people in their tightly controlled communities. Status and titles along with the prestige of small town predominant status is key to their survival. Most are long term locals that will not defy their community masters and dislike newcomers. Just a peice of advice and my own personal opinion based on experience.

Now Oregon is seeing the problems that big cities have always dealt with, homelessness, and they're making it worse. Who decided to decriminalize drugs?
