@@zepps88 He had an aneurysm, which is like a burst blood vessel in the brain, and it changed his interests. He suddenly wanted to be a hay farmer. So he did. He didn't lose his skills, he's still a great drummer, he's just not interested in it. Sometimes he does sessions work for other bands, and sometimes he rejoins R.E.M. when he feels like it. What if you had a health trauma that altered your brain to make you lose interest in what you're best at, and somebody poked fun at your looks? Empathy: Be everybody you see, and you'll be nicer.
I always had mad respect for Arsenio. He didn't just have black artists on his show, he had all different kinds of music and people perform. Heck, even Slayer played on his show!
I love this song about level earth, notice Eve is in the word level, even, Eve our Mother Earth. R.E.M were trying to tell us about our level earth, thank you for doing that, good manKIND, I love you🧡🧡🧡
Exactly a year before I was born, so strange. :S Defiantly the best of the 80's for me, though Pixies, The Cure, Hüsker Dü, and Sonic Youth come close for me.
@@sexobscura I was noticing all the imagery and realized there was much more going on in that song than I ever thought about in 30 years.. Then I wondered why I hadn't before..
This was the night of the Loma Prieta earthquake in San Francisco. Seems likely that this was pretaped, and before the earthquake, since no one gives any indication of such a big event
Well Michael Stipe is actually originally from New York as he did sing a song in dedication to his sad feelings of leaving it and how tough it was for him at the time
Always love musician and celebrity political commentary when they have practically no understanding of actual facts of the issue. It's as entertaining as their music
I was a fan from “Chronic Town” and I remember when “Green” came out, R.E.M. specifically said that they were out to write a bunch of stupid pop songs. Not sure why, but they succeeded.
The vast majority of "Green" is not "dumb". It's only "Stand" and "Pop Song 89" on the album that are, really. Everything else is pretty strong, lyrically. It's also important to say, there's nothing wrong with "dumb pop songs". ;-)
one of the best albums of the late 80s - and one of worst ever miming performances ever....compares with the smiths and the fall as the best band but worst mimers...
