Walsh was not going to be lead vocals. While laying some tracks at a local place in Kansas, everyone went to lunch, except Walsh. He just hung out in the studio and was just belting out there songs. When everyone came back, the engineer realized that he had left a tape on recording. He ran it back and hit play. He called the band in to see who this was on tape. They looked around and figured that it could only be Steve Walsh, they didn't know that he could sing like that.

To fool the talent scout from New York, when he came to Topeka to see them play live, they rented a hall and advertised free beer. The scout from Don Kirshner records was blown away by the crowd and reaction! LOL "We were 6 ugly guys from Kansas, we had to do something!"
