Yeah, but Roglic from the past few years would have worked with him to try and get the stage win imo. This new Roglic doesn't take risks like the old one. I think that also upset Remco a bit, because he expected differently.
Absolute gem of a stage, totally prime sports-action, from Remco rage-sprinting to Groves almost sending little Napoleon into geostationary orbit with the elbow flick.
I was laughing pretty hard at Remco being angry with Roglic for not pulling. Why would he pull? There is literally no benefit to him pulling. They have 20secs on peloton and Remco thought they would stay away? Give me a break. Roglic is showing every day this him and his team are by far better tactically than Remco and Quickstep.
If Remco and Roglic work together, they easily stay away. The peloton was in shambles during the chase after BV was done, in the end it where JV and QST doing the work untill right before the finish. Old Roglic would have pulled imo, new Roglic doesn't take risks. It is understandable, but Remco's annoyance is also understandable to an extent.
Remco's entire thing is that you don't catch him if you give him 10 seconds. I'm confident that if this was just Remco, the entire squad of Jumbo would have serious, serious trouble to catch him. Roglič just didn't want to risk Remco taking any bonus seconds.
I like Remco, and it's great to watch his progression, but I had to laugh when he almost dislocated his elbow trying to get Primoz to take a pull. I'm sure that Primoz had a bit of a laugh about it too 😅
Roglic actually said sorry, I think he had team orders not to help, in 2021 this kind of attack (with Bernal who was also behind him in the GC ) helped him win the Vuelta.
Why is everyone seemingly missing the point that when it's all said and done, Remco and Roglic shook hands after the intermediate sprint and Remco even admitted in the interview he understood why Roglic didn't pull? Clearly there aren't any hard feelings. Remco is still young and inexperienced so he's allowed to get frustrated in the moment along as it doesn't affect him long term in a race. I have a feeling that will come with time
@@BevandEdMusic So he dealt with this. He encouraged Roglic to take a pull, it didn't work, he later explained in the interview he understood why Roglic didn't want to pull but tried to have him pull anyway. Really nothing to see here, move on.
remco is a huge talent, I always watch the races he's in but he is definitely not a very smart guy, I would say he is one of the least smart in the bunch.
Thanks for clearing that up. I was convinced Remco brutally murdered Roglic after the stage and that Belgium and Slovenia engaged in holy nuclear war, thus ending life as we know it. Thank you Nicholas for letting us know they shook hands and no murder occured, we really missed the point on this one.
Both amazing athletes, and Remco probably frustrated while sitting at 90% max heart rate. Most cyclists know how easy it is to think straight and logically when you are redlining 😂
Yeah exactly my thought, then add fatigue from a week of hard racing and pressure from fans, team etc. I mean this IS part of the job but still... I'm not really a fan of Remco, but give the guy a break.
Odd. There's only one guy in the peloton behaving like this. Apparently most riders know how to put in an effort and not become a childish little whino. But there's the problem of course, Remco's a childish little whino even before he gets on his bike at the beginning of the stage, so he's not going to be any nicer when he's under pressure.
funny drama to watch for us spectators but pretty meaningless. In his post-race interview he wasn't upset at all, acknowledged Primoz' point in not pulling. We're watching a great match-up with these two but there's no real animosity.
Remco my boy, Roglic is playing mind games with you, be smart and try to learn how to race with the head too, cycling it's not only about watts. Thanks for the video, great as usual!
I'm not sure he does. He did basically the same with Colbrelli at the European champs a couple of years ago. Doesn't seem like he learnt anything from that.
Thats because he only started cycling at an older age. He never raced at junior level, so while he is talented he will still have some junior traits / inexperience
@@harmen1832 I would say that’s a big part of it.. suspect the other part of it is being such a dominant rider all of his life he never had to learn how to be cagey, efficient and tactical to win.. just wasn’t necessary.. burn the ground down with overwhelming strength worked.. but WAY harder at top level.. there is just more insanely good riders around.. saw same thing with Sagan initially.. also VanAert and Van der Poe [and Pogacar]l.. learning how to win with their heads and not just legs!
This is the core of racing. Tactics, alliances, attack or defend, bluff and double bluff etc. It has always been this way and always will be. The physical side is only part of being a good racer. Nobody did anything wrong today, both riders doing their thing and playing their hand the best they can. Love it.
This guy (Remco) is just hilarious. Primoz did what he had to do, just stay careful behind Remco and not loose his wheel. Remco had 2 possibilities: Continue pulling or just stop and wait for peloton. But he went on third: Drama. He likes drama almost everytime he can. But drama doesn't benefit his image. He could be one of the best of his time for his legs. But in sport you need also fair play and sportive mind. He cannot leave Roglic behind and frustration come to him. He acts like a 10-year-old boy whose parents never had put limits on him and say no when asks for something. To sum up: great Primoz! I hope you win tomorrow. You deserve it. By legs and behaviour and fair play and no drama on bike
fair play in cycling....not so much. The sport needs 10 more Remcos. Men who RACE with legs and lungs. Not guys who spin in a bunch for hours and spring for 200 meters. IMHO
Dumbest analysis of the day! It’s the image of a fighter. It’s the image of emotions. It’s the image of what makes races interesting. Riders like WVA in the TDF. Riders like Remco who made today’s race more entertaining. Without riders with emotions you’d have a dull sport where wheel suckers à la Quintana and Roglic emerge. By the way, learn the meaning of fair play.,
It’s just part of cycling. They try and guilt the other party into doing work using extreme gestures and emotions - it’s all theatre. But in the same position Remco would do the same. And the commentators play it up. This happens in club cycling as much as pro cycling. Great theatre!
Remco will never sit in the wheel. Never. There’s simply nobody better than him when it comes to pulling//tt’ing steady efforts on flat/rolling terrain
@@de4ds1ghtcsgo94 As a die hard roglic fan, I must admit that overall, remco has probably been stronger this volta, however, roglic is improving massively just over the week, so should be ok for tommorow, and should be able to wrap up the giro if he stays on the bike
@@AceStrikerxXx thats true but remco pulled more, so i would say pretty similar level on that stage. If roglic was back in 2021 vuelta form, maybe he puts 30 seconds into remco
@@AceStrikerxXx He was dead due to starting his sprint way too early and blowing up because of it, especially since he's still not used to the sprint efforts. That and doing more work.
This year's Giro will be one for the ages with these two going toe to toe like this. I expect Remco will be his own worst enemy and get frustrated, needlessly expending energy he needs to conserve.
Remco has a lot of 'seasoning' to do. He's still thinking about each second, each stage win, each moment of work and glory. Primoz is thinking about winning the whole race. To get upset at a competitor for not helping you do better against them is a bit insane.
I guess to get the stage win. Obviously it depends, but if Roglic wants to try and have a go at it, he might pull with Remco. Ofcourse if he's too afraid to lose in the sprint, that is something different. To me it seems people are just ignoring that for Remco, that was also a consideration. 'Pull with me to get a change at the stage win'.
@@MDP1702 I dont think so really if Roglic wants to retain his gc there is no reason to get drawn out by remco. Thats just gc racing. If it was a single day race thats totally different.
@@photomotor The only reason not to take (weaker) pulls with Remco is that he's not sure of his sprint against Remco, which pretty astounishing considering Roglic strength in it and Remco only recently dabbling in it. Ofcourse if he's unsure, totally understandable, else it is just a waste of opportunity to get another stae win and more boni seconds. I am pretty sure eg. Pog would have taken pulls with Remco. Imagine Roglic tomorrow losing GC by 1-4", essentially what he could have gained by going to the line with Remco. Yes, there are risks but also potential gains. It seems to me people are focusing a lot on the risks and essentially ignoring the potential gains. Again, if Roglic didn't feel certain of his capabilities in a sprint vs Remco, that is fine. But that also shows Remco was pushing Roglic in the red, which could be interesting for tomorrow.
@@MDP1702 Pog would probably dropped both of them. If I was Director of Jumbo I would tell him not to work with him, I would also be much wealthier. Roglic is looking pretty comfortable at this point.
@@MDP1702 I was laughing pretty hard at Remco being angry with Roglic for not pulling. Why would he pull? There is literally no benefit to him pulling. They have 20secs on peloton and Remco thought they would stay away? Give me a break. Roglic is showing every day this him and his team are by far better tactically than Remco and Quickstep.
6:00 gives me flashbacks to Vuelta stage 16 with Primoz Roglic swerving and looked to be nearly crashing in the sprints again... Quality rider but it does appear he is a bit unaware in bunch sprints. Scary stuff.
I think Bahrain were trying to drop Soler after they caught him to protect Landas GC. I think Remco wasn’t really mad, it was just a tactic to try to get Roglic to pull.
After the stage Roglic said it wasn't necessary and he was right. He's in the lead he has no reason to waste that much energy the peloton is right behind them they aren't going anywhere
Same old Remco. Those Napoleon logos on the shoulders are ironically fitting. Didn't learn much from the Euro champs Colbrelli thing it seems. Sometimes guys just won't work with you because it's not in their interest to do so
I watch cycling a lot, and I've never seen anything like this. I wouldn't say Remco was angry so much as he was frustrated. Have you ever seen a rider yell "Please! Please!" at his immediate rival? It was like watching a teen frustrated with the world. Not to belittle Remco in any way, his physical performance was incredible today. But I've never seen a rider react like that (:
If Roglic would have pulled with Remco, he would have been totally swindled - made no sense for him to pull. The race showed that Roglic is savvy and Remco is fun to watch 🙂
More reasons added to the list that makes me massively dislike Evenepoel. Why on earth would Roglic assist his closest rival in the GC like that. More stroppy behaviour from a young man who clearly gets what he wants all the time. He needs to grow up and start acting like an adult.
Smart by roglic, if he got dropped by remco there's every chance only TJV would be chasing. With most of the horsepower off in the classics team there is a strong chance remco could stay away unless another team helped.
Fake standing 1) Puncture was verified. 2) He did lose time on this stage, the tire puncture only allowed him to get the time of the bunch, not Roglic's time. 3) He had of course the legs to at least stay in the bunch, and probably to respond to Roglic attack.
Fignon used to complain routinely that lemond was a wheel sucker. If one leads gc, he has the position to ride defensively Let’s see, who knows the past? Remco has led b f and won b f one week stage races and the vuelta. When Remco was leading those stage races did he pull w his top competitor? Anyone out there know? Hypocrisy?
No sense.. They are professionals - race for the win or at least the best result possible. Using your head and cycling race tactics are interesting to watch also.
Good for the future giro ! they both will meet again. Both are extreme good riders for sure ! BUT roglic always attacks the last 2 k to gain somme seconds . For this reason I like pogacar, remco and Wout Van aert more ! they all 3 exeptional riders and like to attack , and with a lot of attacks and escapes you make a nice race ! Like roglic waiting to the last K to attack makes me falling a sleep . Like the tour of 2022 when Wout had the yellow jersey, and he attacked and won the stage .
Why would Roglic work with Evenepoel? Not sure why anyone would understand his frustration…all Roglic has to do is mark him. Evenepoel clearly has an attitude problem when everything doesn’t go his way. In the words of Eurosport’s Adam Blythe following an incident with Ben Turner in 2022, he’s clearly a spoiled brat.
In hindsight after the Giro you have to say that Catalunya was a far more enjoyable race and the real battle between Remco and Roglic which we never really got to see in the Giro.
NO, Remco wasn't furious at all. Yes he has a lot of drive but he said after the race he enjoyed the race with his idol and understands why Primoz was racing tactical.
I think the frustration was also about the whole week, Roglic was always in the wheel never pulled with him, understandable for Roglic but not for a guy like Remco (or Mathieu, Wout, Pogacar) they always wanne race, they don't "just want to ride".
Prediction time = Remco, when he hits 40 years of age his physical stature is going to start looking like Greg LeMonds. That's something to look forward too....
Sagan for several years, when he was not winning, complained bitterly that riders sucked his wheel and wouldn’t collaborate w him. It was a common Sagan refrain. But b f Sagan there was Cancellara. Cancellara was the king. And? Yes that’s right Sagan wd suck Cancellara wheel then try to take him in the sprint. Cancellara in fact couldn’t stand Sagan for these tactics, esp Sagan antics in a classics win by Sagan: thete Sagan sucked Cancellara wheel for 25-30 in their two man break, then Sagan came round Cancellara to win the classic, and nearing the line Sagan does a wheelie. That behavior by Sagan made Cancellara seethe. Once Sagan becomes king he then bemoaned the wheel suckers. It’s a small world
If Remco had Teammate to launch the attack with him and force roglic to jump the chain and have to go around the support rider, Remco could get Roglic off his wheel Remco needs to be angry at Patrick levevre
It’s embarrassing seeing Remco being a sore looser. He can’t just accept that he can’t win every race he starts. Looking for seconds he couldn’t take in the mountain stages. 💀🤣🤣🤣. No wonder he is choosing his race very well, avoiding Pogacar, Vingegaard and classics with Van der Poel and Van Aert.
