ramsey polk Happy February Black History Month from the “Little Angels “ to the Sylvers . The Sylvers deserves a star 🌟 on the Hollywood walk of fame, now is the time. The love the music.
You have such a wonderful, talented and beautiful family! I know you are a great person too. I wish we could see more of them in their older years, not performing..unless they want to do a song, no just talking about their life. I've talked about this family to my kids all their lives. Even though I only saw them on Soul Train, that was enough! They were the model family in love. Blessings always on the Silvers! Thank you for sharing sharing your music and your lives with the world..it meant the world to me!
I'm glad most of these clips are from American Bandstand. On Unsung they said Dick Clark was the only one who stood up to the record label and lawyers when the manager caused all of that drama.
I loved the Sylvers..but The Jackson 5 were global superstars before the Sylvers ever came on the scene .. the Jacksons 5 released their 1st album in 1969 with Motown which at that time was a juggernaut record label. The Sylvers came along in the mid-70’s. The Sylvers were a fantastic group & one of my favorites too.
The Sylvers were great, this is the one group that gave Jackson 5 a run for their money in the 70's. Their dance steps were tight and their sound was great.
Weren't they the stiffest competition for the Jackson 5, and they were essentially undermined to derail that. Still a very heavy influence on music and R&B to this day.
Oh my gosh....Hotline was my first 45!!! I think I was like 7 or something (born Dec 1967). My sister loved Boogie fever........we listened to them both over and over and over!!! Great memories :)
I really want a Sylvers biopic whats the "real" story behind my beloved group! I can only imagine Olan suffered in silence from her ordeal without professional help. Leon had to grow up way to soon and became a workaholic with a temper. Charmaine wanted a quiet life as a wife and mother. James was the go along perfect son and mediator. Edmond wanting a solo career apart from the family. Ricky the handsome one relegated to the background. Angie the pretty well developed teen fighting the
I was fanatic about this group when I was young. I think if they had listened to their big brother Leon-and let him write and produce they would’ve had more hits after he left. They’ve admitted this too.
God Bless this family, what wonderful memories watching this. Seems like yesterday I was watching them perform on Soul Train, and Dick Clark when I was a kid. God Bless you Edmund, rest peacefully.
As a kid reading magazines like Right On and stuff. It was mostly Foster Sylvers posters in their along with Stoney Jackson and Leon Kennedy, memories Wow.
The last of the true "family" acts if you ask me. I loved this group as a kid and just found out today that I have been teaching one of their relatives who is in high school. Neither she nor her classmates had ever heard the songs. I will be showing this compilation to a new generation and preserving the memory of a group I ( a hard rocker) truly admired!
met you all in Maywood Illinois at a concert in 1975 I believe. You and Edmund really were so onice to me. I am getting choked up remembering that day. I cried when I found out that Edmund had died. When you meet famous people and they are nice and down to earth. It stays with you for years. Love, Connie
The sylvers were not only talented, but they lived a block from me growing up and they were down-to-earth and fun people. The oldest "Leon" was a true writer at a very young age. there's no comparison between them and the Jackson. Just 2 families that were talented and kept us entertained.
Great post. Their talent really shows...now-a-days we don't have that family unity and beauty (especially the hair!). It's refreshing seeing a beautiful black family like The Sylvers.
@dshif2323 I definitely agree!! I saw them in 1977 at the San Francisco Cow Palace. They were truly awesome, and friendly. From seeing Unsung, they were cheated out of royalties and masters, so it would probably be difficult getting a DVD of their live performances. I want to see actual concert performances - not television. Anyone agree?
Absolutely wonderful tto see them!!! They were my favorite favorite family group! "Forever Yours" is my favorite song. I pray that God continue to bless them. They are a jewel 💎of the black culture. Love them Forever!
The Sylvers were awesome! I’ve been a fan since “Boogie Fever!” However, “Hotline” will always be my favorite! The Sylvers were a part of the soundtrack of my youth!
I found out recently that Edmond passed away - ohh - soo sad. That dude rocked!!! I was 11 years old when Boogie Fever was on top of the charts. Edmond - we will miss you for sure! Umm - my heart is kinda bleeding - for real - I mean I ABSOLUTELY love this group. Whenever you heard them, JUMP UP AND BE SOMEBODY!!! Too much good hot poker music... RIP Edmond - DUDE - YOU ARE A LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy February Black History Month from the “Little Angels” to the Sylvers. The Sylvers deserves a star 🌟 on the Hollywood walk if fame, now is the time.
The older Sylvers were out in the 60's. I remember seeing a re-airing of the Dan Thomas show. I loved to watch The Sylvers dance, the entire family was talented. They should come out with a DVD concert from back n the day
Happy March of Spring from the Little Angels 👼 to the Sylvers. The Sylvers deserves a star 💫 on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, now is the time. Happy Birthday March 7th to Leon(The Wizard) F. Sylvers III.
I am just getting to learn the legacy of the Sylvers being 38 now. I am really feeling this group. The women in the group are beautiful and the brothas are very talented.
i was just thinking the same thing as i was watching this...they would make a great feature on "Unsung". I'm only 30, but i remember "Boogie Fever" as a baby and i didn't really have a clue how big they were until now...i thought that was there only hit. wow gotta love youtube! As a music fan/ amateur historian i live for discovering info on artist from the past that never got the recognition they deserved, which again is why i hope TVone does include them in that series. I would love to see it!
Iam in total agreement with Native Moon. The Sylvers were a truly talented and underrated group. Thank you so much for posting the clips. Their music will indeed stand the test of time. If any member of the Sylvers family is reading this, God Bless and I'd like to here more from you.
@@alwanthony6910 an interview on the Cindy Davis show with Foster, Pat and Angie touches on that particular subject matter. At the 20:30 mark to about the 22:15 mark.
OH MY GOSH!!!I LURVE the Sylvers! Very underrated group. Their edge was that they included their sisters in the act and there was more than one lead singer. My fav songs: Through the Love In My Heart, Fool's Paradise, Wish That I Could Talk To You, Misdemeanor, Don't Stop, Get Off; Stay Away From Me, Fallin' For Your Love, Boogie Fever, and Hot Line. A firend's who's 6 yrs older than I has ALL of their albums.
This was FANTASTIC! Don't compare! Donny Osmond, Michael Jackson and Foster Sylvers and ALL of their family members were extreme talents whether they were your cupof tea or not.... They are all representative of a lot of hard work and sacrifice. Most of us - talented or not could not have done it. The stars and planets aligned and these groups came together and they brought a lot to the lives and childhoods of a lot of us!
The Sylvers remain my all time favorites from back in the day. I just read mama Debarge's book about her children. I never knew what they went through. It is so sad. We look at these stars and think that all is perfect in their lives. Sadly, a lot of them have endured incest, drugs and alcohol abuse. I pray that all the Sylvers are doing well now. Be blessed. Thanks for the wonderful music that still holds up to this day. I love you Edmund. RIP.......Connie
The Sylvers were extremely talented. And they still have MILLIONS of us who were and STILL ARE fans. I always say that life goes in directions that are sometimes not good but in the end we still have our families and mem'ries. Many of us fans hurt with the Sylvers as they lost loved ones for we consider them part of our LIFE FAMILY. So thanks for the tribute to them, MusicXman. Well-done and very, very deserved.
you should be proud to be related to them. I remember seeing them when I was a kid. I am now 41. I hope and pray all is well with them. I would love to see TVOne do a documentary on them also.
I was very young in the 70's so I didn't know just how talented they were. I'm a musician/singer and now I can truly appreciate their talent. I didn't know that they played instruments as well. One of the most talented groups out there for sure.
Angie, my 2 brothers are deceased too. I know how it feels to lose loved ones. You may have not gotten the exposure that the Jacksons got, But you still to this day have millions of fans that love you. I actually have all of your albums in mint condition. My favorite songs are "I'll never be ashamed", and "I Remember" and "Got to have you". I could go on and on with you about favorite jams. Your family is truly talented but you know how it works in the music business. The almighty dollar!!
Second point: Michael may have had the moves, but the entire Sylvers clan could sing, and, during the 70s and early 80s, it was well known within the industry that no other group could out-sing them. 6, 7, 8, NINE part harmonies!! Truly amazing stuff. Outside of Jermaine and Michael, the Jackson boys couldn't harmonize to save their lives. The Jackson had decent management, which explains their popularity. The Sylvers' talents, unfortunately, were mismanaged at tragic proportions.
I will and forever will be a Jackson Girl.....however you have got to LOVE the Sylvers. They could ALL sing and they had such beautiful harmony and they danced so well. I was a huge fan of theirs back in the 70's. I had a bunch of 45's and two of their albums. Can't wait for their UNSUNG episode to air.
the biggest hair ever. Great compilation. I loved 'Dance right now' and their version of 'Mahogany' off the Disco Fever album I think. Multicoloured velour sweaters- love it!
Angie, I just want to give a heartfelt thanx to you and the entire Sylvers family for being real, and also for sharing your gift of music and remarkable talents with the world. Listening to your music always takes me back to a time when life was so much simpler and better... may God bless you all!
This is the way to remember this great, truly underrated and underappreciated band... when they were together making great music. Despite the way things have turned out for most of them, their music will stand the test of time. A wonderful walk back in time - thank you so much!
I love the Sylvers since elementary school. I really love and still do all of the ladies in the family. When we were kids me and my friends learned the Boogie Fever steps and were doing it around the neighborhood. We were trying to get on a local TV dance show. I love listening to all of their music this day still and I saw their live concert via RU-vid; wish I could see them live.
I'm a CERTIFIED SYLVERS JUNKIE!! MY earliest recollection of them was the very first appearance on Soul Train. I think one of them said that their aunt had sewn all of the costumes they were wearing! I can't believe that after all this time, their music still resonates within me and makes me wanna dance! I used to wish I was a Sylvers with a big bouncin' fro back then!! I never knew about Chris and Edmund's passing til a few weeks ago. sorry for the loss but each ending is a new beginning.
Thanks MusicXMan. That was a really nice tribute!! I really enjoyed watching the Sylvers when I was a teen in the 70's. I was a senior in the band at my high school in '80 and I wanted us to play "High School Dance" for senior day. Unfortunately, we ended up playing a jazz number because we did not have enough time to pull the arrangements together. My kids love the Sylvers music! I let them play it on their iPods because they can jam without violence. The Sylvers still rock!!!
Don't get me wrong, I like MJ too but I will also give the other groups their props as well. Back then there were a lot of family groups who just wanted to sing, not be like Mike. I enjoyed all of their songs and performances from Sylvers, J5, Osmonds, Sisters Sledge and so on. Why must there always be a comparison, each group was talented. It is sad that the family groups are a thing of the past.
The only thing that was similar between these two groups were that they were family and African Americans with big fros. Any other comparisons you can throw out of the door. The Sylvers never tried to sing nor dance like the j5.They were already too talented on their own. Why can't we love them equally?
True music is TIMELESS. I'm sure 20 years from now we will still BE BUMPIN Sylvers tracks like Hot Line, Boogie Fever, and Don't Stop, Get Off! Will ANYBODY even remember the name Lil Wayne in 6 months?
This is incredible footage always loved the Sylvers as much as the Jackson 5 didnt seem like the Sylvers got the same exposure as the Jackson 5.. all were very talented..Its wonderful that Angie is responding to the many people who loved the music of the Sylvers Bogie Fever was and still is a personal favorite.. I was shocked to learn of the untimely passing of Edmund..as much as i wa the passing of another great recently Johnnie Wilder.Jr. of Heatwave..Its great we still have the videos
You are truly a sweetheart Angie. I wish that your mom would write a book about her talented children. Again, thank you for uplifting my spirit when I needed it most. You also jammed on "Got to have you". Be Blessed. Love, Connie
Angie...first thanks for taking time to post to us... I have too many favs to name one by one...but I will tell you Angie that as far as the songs that you sang lead on, I LURVE PS: The Unfinished Letter...A LOT...and also To Be Near You.
Last but not least THANKS for posting this MusicXman....this family can still sang and I appreciate their contributions to music especially SOUL music.
Hello SylversAngel! Thanks for replying! It has been a pleasure to comment on something that means so much to me. I come from a close-knit family, so I know exactly what is important in life! Peace and blessings to you and your family!!
UNSUNG reminded me of a time when you still had beautiful families in the projects headed by strong single women like Mama Slyver who had aspirations and dreams of something better for their kids. Nothing like these 1st of the month heffers that's up in their now.
@dshif2323 I completely agree I would buy it as soon as it came out. Since when have we had a family act like this. My children love the music and dancing from the 70s! My 17 yo daughter said oh "this is when you had to have talent" lol!
Hi Angie, Were you or your sisters ever offer to do a solo project? That would have been great! I would love to see the family do a reunion album one day. You have a lot of fans that love your music.
It was a magical time in life, period! No one really cared about how many songs or how many albums someone sold! That has nothing to do with the enjoyment of the music! All the family groups were great back then, and all in their own right! Now, we have forgotten the simplicity of life and our priorities! It was about family!! That is what mattered! It was about being together memories to pass onto others who were not as blessed to have families that stood together!
i know the next generation of sylvers.. I'm really good friends with Jeremy Sylvers.. He played in Childs play 3 as Tyler. He talked about his family performing all the time. God Bless them all.
