"Raymond Chow didn't want to sign the deal. Raymond didn't want to lose his biggest star." Bruce planned to leave Golden Harvest after filming was done. He was also in talks with Golden Harvest's rival studio -- Shaw Brothers about a movie deal. Weintraub also mentioned that the feud with Raymond Chow got so intense that Bruce banned him from the set eventually. The more information that comes to light the more red flags.

Bruce Lee entered our lives for an all to brief time...he was like a raging storm , full of electricity and power,....but the storm ,..waned into a gentle breeze,...and then all fell silent......Bruce Lee ( 1940-1973)......rip

Enter the Dragon was the best of the best. Its because of Fred and bringing western movie quality and writing to a kung fu movie.

Not really. Most Asian at that time preferred The way of the dragon and The fist of fury.

I had thought that it was Bruce Lee himself that conjured up the concept of the tv series 'Kung Fu'. I had thought that Bruces title for it was 'The Magic Flute'. I dont know if im mixed up but I had thought I read that Bruce took his idea to the relevant tv people and they rejected it which hurt Bruce given that an American was then placed into his very own tv idea. When I was a kid I didnt realise 'Game Of Death' was a patchwork of scenes with Bruce,stunt doubles and different cuts of random film but it was hard for me to choose between game of death and Way Of The Dragon. In hindsight way of the dragon is my fav but its such a shame Bruce didnt get to finish game of death. I think it would have blown his previous films out of the water. The mere concept of Bruce fighting against different styles on different levels of the pogoda was lightyears ahead of anything else before it as far as martial arts film was concerned but then again, Bruce was a phenomenon in his field. He learned and mastered what he practiced very quickly but what sets him apart is he improved upon fighting systems and techniques and I firmly believe he also would have made the same progression in the movies. In a way he achieved what he had set out to do and he had only really just got started. RIP Bruce

I agree, Betty should have called for an ambulance when Bruce complain about his headache. You don't give someone a painkiller, and allow that person to lay down. How in the hell do you panic. She should have did better.

Another video stated he was late getting to the hospital, 30 minutes instead of 14 because the ambulance wasn't called until later. Linda got to the hospital before Bruce did.

Her rooms were owned by the Shaw brothers ? The were to gain by Bruce's death, look at all the movies made after he died ? if he had lived he was taking the movies to America, also 3 yrs later Betty married a triad boss ? who she was probably dating while still with Bruce , she did not Love Bruce, work it out ! he had a family, he should of stayed with his wife and kids, she led to his demise, he was set up and murdered. Imagine ! you go to your Misstresses house Friday T time , by 10pm yer Dead ??? if Bruce had of died at home the would be little speculation the last 47yrs, thing is ! he didn't, while I am here , the reason Brandon was killed was because he had Opened up the case into his Fathers death , so they have it . "Bruce would set the fights up almost impossible to do, and Bob would adjust them simply and make them work"...riiiight. The same Bob Clouse who went on to direct other action classics like Force: Five and Gymkata, lol. Y'know, not to speak ill of the dead, but there's always something annoyingly condescending about the way Weintraub talks about Bruce, as this amazing, driven guy who was also scattered and unfocused because he was interested in doing too many things, but buckled down on Enter the Dragon because be knew it was his big shot and, hey, maybe only good ol' Freddy saw what he had. Clouse pretty much said the same thing about seeing the potential but having to sculpt and harness it. Jeeeez...more and more I'm of the opinion that the reason Bruce was such a handful, according to these guys, is because he saw them as a bunch of Hollywood assclowns who knew how to talk a good show and crank out cheap movies but were not in the business of producing and/or selling art with a capital A, which is what the Little Dragon wanted to do-he simply DISGUISED it as throwaway entertainment. Fred and gang were more interested in the throwaway…and the MONEY. Which is frankly what I think they saw him as: this energized guy with a phenomenal and marketable talent they could milk like crazy while the kung fu craze lasted. Bruce, of course, had a grander vision for the film and his career, argued with them constantly about their limited mindset and low-budget mentality, and proved he was right when the most noteworthy thing they ever did proved to be Enter the Dragon. Unless, that is, one counts the Clouse/Weintraub follow-up masterpiece, Black Belt Jones, lol.

Randal Wung I agree with your thoughts. Although Bruce tried learning camera set ups on “The Green Hornet” it wasn’t really till “Big Boss” and “Fist of Fury” and “Way of the Dragon” and “Game of Death” footage was under his built did he have the knowledge to contribute to “Enter The Dragon” at the level he did. But it’s important to realize that the film makers of “Dragon” shot a lot of wide shots and didn’t have to edit him too much cuz he was the real deal. So I can see the conflict in creativity. And yes, the production team was NOT experienced. Even the DP had never shot on 35mm until he got the job on “Dragon” and that was only because he had a passport and could make it to Hong Kong on the filming dates :-)
@drumgk
@drumgk 5 лет назад
Randal Wung Shannon lee said Bruce didn’t show up on set because he was nervous. He didn’t show up because he wanted certain changes in the Michael Allen script and Fred and Paul wouldn’t budge. So they finally relented even on the name of the movie. So thanks to Bruce we have the name of the film he wanted and the script as well.

Warner Bros. doesn't deserve all the millions & millions of dollars they've made off of Enter The Dragon. They were willing to put, what, $100 thousand or so into producing the film, they insisted Bruce & Raymond Chow co-produce/co-fund it & 50 years later Enter The Dragon is still making money for WB.

Very interesting interview. People don’t realize how tough it is behind the scenes dealing with stars or soon to be stars who have huge egos. I think I remember hearing Weintraub being interviewed on the Imus in the Morning radio show. He was an excellent guest. One correction: I believe Weintraub when he says Bruce would throw a snake at him every morning, but it obviously could not have been a cobra.

For what I dug up about Bruce Lee was of course yes he very distraught & but Linda reassured them that Bruce has all of these new issues to deal with & I doubt many after 3 Movies wouldn't be freaking out about a make or break movie with regards to Bruce's nerves... But the arguments that were going back to from Bruce Lee & Raymond Chow was about money & Bruce was extremely pissed off that he could easily see Raymond Chow making money , so where was Bruce's cut... As that is a long time in any country in any language to wait for their profits & I've never truly felt that Raymond Chow acted in any positive way towards Bruce... The Big Boss & Fists Of Fury saw a huge jump with regards to the onscreen fighting & knowing that he did everything to do with " The Way Of The Dragon " yet again saw next to no money & lefts not forget these movies were made on shoe string budgets... But by any standards from back then til today I know I'd be seriously pissed off IF I had 3 successful movie in the cinema but Bruce was tired of Raymond Chows ongoing way of palming Bruce Lee off wjith very basic answers to something that should never been allowed whether it was 5 plus decades ago... Call me prejudice IF you want but I never ever liked Raymond Chow on the grounds of being a rip off merchant & that little smile of his gave him away everytime... I can't explain it as its something I just feel & I can't get the feeling that Raymond Chow should ever have been... .....

@@TCM215 I still have a hard time understanding why Bruce Lee would indulge himself with so much cortisone injections to the point of no return. I mean a philosopher like himself should understand that when you have a chronic issue or pain, you need to limit or even stop what you're doing right away, man. I mean Bruce Lee took his training too seriously and too dangerously.

I don't like SAYin' it but...Racism---it was white man's racism, pure and simple, that caused the Great hesitation concerning putting Bruce on film. He should've been on TV by 1965. And if these Producer's and Writer's would've had any Vision--- Somebody would have 'picked up' the Green Hornet series and kept it go- ing. Hell----he would've been the lead character in "Kung Fu," were it not for the this Superior attitude. And 'They' would have made a lot more money as well. Oh well...they know NOW, don't they?

I Always thought that Bob Wall And Bruce Lee were close and very good friends even before Bob became a real business man and you could tell by seeing Bob in at least two or three of Bruce's films...perhaps because Bruce wanted things to go well and he could be a perfectionist at times...!!!
