You will never be forgotten (updated 2nd March 2022, EVERYONE who made this series so iconic, must be remembered)
I know, unbelievable. I'm a HUGE fan of the series, and (I know it probably seems a bit morbid) I just want to do my bit to make sure these creative, amazing cast and crew members don't get forgotten.
This is so sad. So many. It hurts to see them go. I love their work for a franchise that is so underrated. Many people haven't even seen alien. Like how!?. RIP. Good souls.
To this day, his talk about the "perfect organism" is still eerie and haunting. His performance is what I believe made the androids essential to the alien franchise. I love chariots of fire, his role as priest Vito Cornelius in Fifth Element (one of the best sci-fi adventure films of all time), Bilbo Baggins in LOTR saga and so much more show what a versatile and talented actor he was.
Who would of thought that Ash would end up giving Frodo a mythril vest haha. I love this guy. He will always be remembered. I'm going to crack open a beer and make a toast... To Ian!!! May he forever screw over the crew of the Nostro.
I would ask why you were watching Alien at age 7, but then, I gave myself nightmares for about a month by sneaking downstairs and watching Aliens one night when I was about that age so...
@@weldonwin I watched it at five or six. Mom and dad rented it for me one evening they were going out for a couple of hours. They thought it was an innocent movie about spacehips. A different time back then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@weldonwin my folks were working nights in the family restaurant and the vcr cassette was sitting there and I watched it on my own. Was fairly traumatised but never told them I watched it as I didn't want to get in trouble. Watching Alien 2 as a teenager was so incredible after all those years. Dint enjoy any of the other movies afterwards. Just didn't resonate like the first two. Prometheus and Covenant were solid but ultimately left unsatisfied.
To call Ian Holme a legend would, I think, be an understatement. His contributions to the incredible art of acting, and some of the greatest stories of all time, is something that very few can really claim to have accomplished. I thank him so much for all that he has done, and the roles that he played so beautifully. May he Rest In Peace!!!!
Technically, his character is a synthetic android, so he doesn't have a soul and couldn't go to the afterlife. At least his mind would still be intact.
Hes in the undying lands, rolling green fields under a swift sunrise. Unfortunately they have a strict immigration policy, so Samwise was denied entry =(. In all seriousness, he picked a good time to check out, things are looking more and more dire as the years progress. He was one face that always made me feel happy, like his smile could take me away to the peacefulness of the Shire, instead of this current World which feels more like a mix of Brave New World and Brazil. Thankfully, he will live on forever in the media that he made feel warmer when he was apart of. Well miss you Mr Holm. F
The favorite of mine was his take on Napoleon in the excellent film Time bandits "that's what I like, little things hitting each other" a rather funny line about Napoleon's favorite things!
Thank you for this wonderful tribute to a master. Two other tremendous roles of Holm are King John in Robin and Marian and the Doctor in The Madness of King George.
Grew up in the 80's in the UK and remember him in 'The Borrowers'. Definitely an actors type of actor because he wasn't a leading man type with an ego. Just talent and modesty. Rest in peace on a life well lived Ian
Holm was part of a special group of actors that will never be replaced ... The classically trained British pack, who slowly started breaking into movies in the 70s and 80s, appearing in SO MANY of our favourite films. Holm, McKellan, Stewart, Hurt, Hopkins, Irons, Derek Jacobi, David Warner, Ben Kingsley, and so many more .... As we slowly say farewell to these acting giants, we also say farewell to a level of performance we may never see again.
Yeah, I can think of 1s health who may be shaky these days Ian McDiarmid who I had the pleasure of meeting at a Star Wars Celebration aka PALPATINE! And I remember the sad passing of Christopher Lee.. man this bums me out
Ian Holm was an amazing, versatile and crazily talented actor. For me he defined the character of Bilbo and he scared me to my core as Ash and made me laugh as Cornelius. He will be sorely missed and always fondly remembered. May he rest in peace. 😔
Such a great loss to the theatre arts. One film not mentioned was Naked Lunch. Ian Holm could transform himself into each character, truly inhabiting each role. It didn't matter if the role was large or small, he always went all in.
I have often thought that Ash was as much an alien to the humans as the humans were Aliens to the Xenomorph... I have always found his performance in Alien to be more chilling than the Xenomorph and more thought provoking.
He will be missed but never forgotten. Rest Well Forever In Peace. Thank you for all the things you've done for us and more. We were all truly blessed to watch your performances on everything you did and more.
Rest in peace Sir Ian Holm thanks for the memories for your iconic roles as Ash, Frodo and Bilbo 2020 has been a terrible year for me personally my mom passed away on Wednesday my thoughts go out to the family and friends of Mr Holm a true icon has been lost you will be missed Sir Ian Holm rest in peace
Ian Holm brought amazing talent and unforgettable scenes across multiple movies! He is a cornerstone actor of some of the greatest movie achievements in cinematic history.
I first saw Holm in LotR and I fell in love with with his performance as Bilbo. The same can be said of when I saw him again upon first viewing Alien. The world truly has lost one of its greatest.
Late post, but R.I.P to a true professional thespian both on screen and on the stage. Sir Ian brought to each role he portrayed a convincing authenticity that is sorely lacking in more popular film actors' (esp. of today) performances, a rare quality superbly demonstrated in the way Ian approached the role of the human-like but eerily mechanical android "Ash."
Back when Alien was on the big screen spoilers weren't a widespread phenom - so, unless someone had read the novelization beforehand, audiences were very surprised at the reveal of Ash being a synthetic, especially one able to deviously mask itself like a real human. Here's a treat for fans - watch him play Napoleon in Time Bandits in a comedic manner, and then watch him play Napoleon dramatically in the Emperor's New Clothes. What an amazing talent.
Sad sad sad. A great actor who got into your soul in an unassuming and unpredictable way right up there before you even realized it and then left you for years wondering and smiling when remembering the range of his performances with a Ah-Ha. truly an inspiration lost to the world. Rest in peace Ian.
Watching Alien tonight and I'll go back through LoTR tomorrow. His work made my life better through entertainment. May he and his family have peace in this time knowing how much joy Ian spread through the world through his work.
Holy cow that was beautiful Derek.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 as the years go on, we will lose people on the way. But we won't forget them. Their lives and the characters they portrayed will be remembered; not only on celluloid but in our memories..... R.I.P. my friends
I love Fifth Element and the Alien films. Needless to say he brought performances to these movies what would be sorely missed with his absence. Much as the world lacks a portion of it's greatest talent now.
A little known fact is that during the shooting of Alien, Holm & his wife invited a homesick & lonely Sigourney Weaver to their farm in Essex to give her a break from what was a demanding schedule. Tells you all you need to know about the man, a true gentleman & one of the greats. R.I.P. Sir Ian.
it only became clear to me when he died when I stood in front of my film shelf that Ian Holm is actually the actor, most of whom is in my DVD collection, and I only own 89 films Alien All Quiet on the Western Front Herny V. March or Die Hobbit 1 LotR 1 LotR 2 LotR 3 I am very sad that ian is no longer with us rest in peace
So very, very sad by the loss of Ian. He really was great on stage and onscreen. In movies, one of my favorites was 'Brazil'. This is a very hard loss to bear.
Well, he lived to 88 and enjoyed great success in his career. Not many do better than that. You'll be missed "Ash." That smile you gave Ripley before she shut you down remains one of the more chilling moments in Alien
I always loved his portrayal of Napoleon in The Time Bandits - psychotically comedic . Nicely done Mr Theory , perfectly respectful and a fitting eulogy. RIP Ian Holm.
God bless Ian Holm. Ironically I am now remembering him in his role from the film "From Hell", a fictional depiction of Jack the Ripper. Ian had such an incredible way of personifying diabolical menace in his villain roles.
Rest in piece Ian. Thank you for this video. I think one of the most intense performance i've ever seen from Ian Holm was in "From Hell" where he played Jack the Ripper. There were some really scary moments in the movie, created by an intense Ian Holm, radiating evil. Very good performance!
RIP Ian, and thank you Alien Theory for this very fitting tribute to such a great actor. I can't understand why this video has been given 6 unlikes. What is not to like?
Fassbender's David is excellent for his ominous and somewhat Machiavellian personality, and Henriksen's Bishop much the same for his calm benevolence. But I feel like only Holm's Ash really nailed that blue-and-orange morality that seems to be an underlying theme of synthetics in the Alien universe. His performance in the role was absolutely excellent and I'm glad he was able to enjoy a long and successful career. He'll be missed. God bless.
This was by far the best vid about Ian out there! Great, excellent work! One role of Ian's that I always enjoy but few speak of is as Jack the Ripper in From Hell. Even if it may be quite obvious that he is the Ripper early in the film Ian still played it so darn well, & scary, that even if you know or at least strongly suspect right away that it's him it doesn't matter because you just want more of his scenes. And the scenes he shares with Johnny Depp in particular are some of the best scenes in the entire movie. Johnny is always at his best when he acts opposite the best, they challenge him & Ian was among those that did this very well. The two had great chemistry.
