Everytime when I visit Srirangapatna and see the Obelix of English soldiers killed, my head hangs in shame in seeing this invaders who occupied IndiaI and feel that Wodeyar did a mistake in constructing this Obelix to honour the fallen British and their mercenaries. I request the authorities to remove this obelix and make obelix or a pillar to honour the brave Mysoreans soldiers who died in 1799. To name a few Gaffar Khan, Dondia wagh ( escaped and died in 1800) Benki Nawab, Ghazi Khan, Balkrishnan, Syed Hamid, Syed Saheb, several French soldiers, and 1000s other Royal Mysore soldiers.

Maratha Empire, Travancore Kingdom, Sikh Empire, Nizam of Hyderabad and East India Company supported British Crown in defeating Tippu in the 3rd Anglo Mysore war. Sub continent of India had monarchy till 1947 and there were more than 565 princely states at the time of independence. Among the preliminary terms that Cornwallis insisted on was that Tipu surrender two of his sons as hostages as a guarantee for his execution of the agreed terms. On 26 February, his two young sons were formally delivered to Cornwallis amid great ceremony and gun salutes by both sides. Cornwallis, who was not interested in significantly extending the company's territory, or in turning most of Mysore over to the Mahrattas and Hyderabad, negotiated a division of one half of Mysorean territory, to be divided by the allies, in which the company's acquisition would improve its defences. He later wrote, "If we had taken Seringapatam and killed Tippoo, [...] we must either have given that capital to the Marathas (a dangerous boon) or have set up some miserable pageant of our own, to be supported by the Company's troops and treasures, and to be plundered by its servants."
