I can remember my uncle unboxing a new 1100 magnum with the same barrel and a new slug barrel for it brand spanking new from the gun store. In my grandpa's shed around the wood burner on Thanksgiving night in about 1978-1979. I was just a little kid but I can remember that pretty stock and fresh blue finish. Him and my Dad had words about if it was a magnum it wouldn't run slugs in 2 3/4" from the slug barrel. It's probably run 200 plus slugs through it since that day he used it until our state went to straight wall cartridge a couple of years ago.
Got the exact same gun passed down to me from my dad. He had the barrel chopped down to 26” and had It threaded to take briley choke tubes. Beautiful gun I plan to pass down to my daughter one day. Between him and I there’s no telling how many deer it’s put down, even got the honor of taking a turkey with it last season. My gun loves the old grey box Winchester #1’s. Not sure if I’ll ever find em again. I recently upgraded to a a400 but I have a feeling the 1100 isn’t done in the deer woods. Great gun with great history, hang on to it cuz they really don’t make em like they used too.
My dad passed his down to me many years ago can I can tell you it will hang with these new guns out today , it came with 3 Remington barrels full, rile slug , skeet probably modified I believe , I have shot many turkeys and geese , deer with it . And i ran brenneke slugs threw it that rile barrel shot them really well for me up to 50 yards but every barrel is different, the gun never failed me, and it makes a all round good gun hang on to that one .
Bought a new 12ga 1100 (2.75 in chamber) in 1979 with 30" full choke barrel for $200. It wouldn't pattern 00 buck (3' ring at 40yds with nothing in middle) so friend suggested getting a modified barrel. Shrank patterns to size of a basketball. About 25 or so years later I gave it to someone who'd done a very great and sweet favor for our son. Miss it. But it hardly repaid the favor.
My Father had a 30” barrel with vent rib and Full choke that measured .682” at the muzzle. It shoots Winchester Double X BB and 2 shot at 92 to 98 % patterns at 40 yards like a Dream. Shot plenty of Turkeys with it.
I have one that my uncle used at white circle hunt club for 25 years. When he died it was left to me. Same exact one you have there. I love it. Every once in a while I take it out deer hunting.
BP that’s a great gun! i use my dads 1100 from 1979 it never ever misfires and i have taken a ton of deer with it shooting 2 3/4 slugs here in NY replaced the stock with a thumbhole stock from Boyds it’s awesome keep up the great vids!
Seen a lot of white tale get taken with those 1100’s and 870 during dog hunting days of the 80s and early 90s. Those are some fun times from my childhood I’ll never forget.
I’ve been wanting one for a long time also. People are paying way too much money for them now. I can’t afford that much nor will I pay that much. If I were you , I would have gunsmith thread the barrel for choke tubes. I did that on my Mossberg 500 and love it. Those 1100’s do pull up and point well. Good luck with it next season.
I have a 1187 1997 vintage and I’ve found the same thing, it shoulders very nice for me. Just got the blued rifled barrel for it. Very excited to use it this year. As far as ammo I’m having to re-load some of my old sabot slugs 🐌 i just change out the O ring ever couple years. U can get em at the hardmore store. Very had a problem with it shootin Trap and Skeet.
My parents bought me a 2 3/4 1100 when I was 12! Can’t tell you how many deer I killed with it including my first deer and first buck. I gave it to my youngest son for Christmas when he was 12.
got the vent rib version - nice looking and great shootn - it will shot bird shot 2 & 3/4 just fine - look for 3& 1/4 dram load or hotter - so a hot 1 & 1/8th or 1 & 1/4 oz - i reload so it is easy to get them - the cheap light stuff may not cycle - being clean and having that O-ring greased will help
I have an old 1100 mag. It won’t cycle 2 3/4 only 3”. I was told it’s only made for magnums because of the gas ports or something. I love it though. Great duck gun
Great video man as always, yah I can’t tabs not being able to find ammunition especially buck shot and slugs and now everybody buying up all the Turkey shot to shit nuts but hopefully one day go back to normal
Bought my first 1 in 1978 still use it today bought 3 more since got 1 last year from a collection new in the box gave 259.00 for the first 1 and 450.00 for the last
I use an 1100 2 3/4 28in barrel with a fixed modified choke for deer in the thick stuff I hunt in. It's a hammer out to 45yds with Fed Premium 00 and Rem 000...
Good video beautiful shotgun bud I have two of them since I was a kid. They say nothing to shoot slugs from the full choke. Very good chance you may blow the end of the barrel apart.
Nice gun brother , I lucked up about ten years ago and got a Remington 20 ga wing master in excellent shape , looked it up and I seen some going for 900
Misinformation. I replaced the metal 'V' ring in my 1963 Model 1100 about 1966 with a Viton O ring so I wouldn't lose it. Over 115,000 shots and 55 years layer it's still working fine. Call it a test in progress.
I have one 👍👍. Big suggestion !! Have it bored to a modified choke and shoot 3” no 1’s ! It’s deadly ! !! And if you waterfowl hunt # 3’s and # 4’s the best I’ve ever shot !! I promise you will be amazed in the buckshot pattern
I've got 2 1100 a 20g and 12g got mine from my local gun store here in the UK, when I move to the US as going to be living with my girlfriend they're both coming with me
I have the same gun I bought new at K Mart for $385.00 And if I remember right in about 1985 mine has a 30-inch vent rib with a full choke barrel. Now if you remember back then they had fixed chokes in the barrels there weren't any rem chokes in them days. But they came along a few years later so I bought a 24-inch barrel with Rem chokes and could start shotting skeet and trap and with much cheaper ammo than only through that magnum barrel. Turkey hunting has been Great i can't tell you how many Turkeys I have tacking with that 30 inch full choke barrel but I have a little secret I patterned that 24inch barrel with 2 3/4 inch shells and one of them costume full chokes and that 2 3/4 inch shell will produce a better turkey pattern than the 30 barrel with 3 inch shills try it in your and let me know what YOU FIND TO BE TRUE ? i WAS VERY SUPRIZES WITH THE OUTCOME OF MY REMINTON !!)) Magnum .. please LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU FIND. I know the 3" have more shot but who cares about the pullets that fly buy and miss the targets I only care about the hitts
I sold one without the original slug barrel for $1200 in ny a man wanted it that damn bad he had a slug barrel original from his dad but couldn’t find the bird barrel well I had what he wanted even if numbers didn’t match he didn’t care I wish I never sold it though it shot almost as smooth as my Sears and Roebuck semi auto only down fall is my Sears needs a hand guard replacement and the part is discontinued and it only holds 3 shots not that too many people can say they have shot 3 deer in one group as they run but it’s an old timey shotgun and it’s mine
I the same gun it was a magnum 12 gauge 1100 full choke. What kinda rifle did you trade ?? Also I have the 1100 bird gun 23/4 12 gauge vent rib I love Remington shotguns. 1963 is correct when they started
I hunted with a buddy of mines an it shot a little high, seemed like. That might've been the way I shouldered it, IDK. Damn good gun though! Wade seems like a nice fellow
I got my grandaddys 12 gauge the regular version of it and I’ve rolled a many of deer with it in front of the hounds. If you ever decide to sell it let me know.
Got the exact same gun from my grandpaw when he passed. I've done a little research but do you or anybody else know about shooting steel shot out of it?
Does anyone know why the 30 inch barrel was a thing?... Over the 26 or 28....ive heard it was for a more weight for better swing and follow thru shooting trap and skeet...and also hesrd it was to gain more velocity for goose hunters for basicly sky busting geese....i dont know what reason i beleave even tho I do think the sky busting geese reason is the most believable since ive seen many old water fowl guns woth 30 inch barrels and even some of the 10 guages came with 30 inch barrles for geese
That is one of the great shotguns when Dupont owned Remington. Let me guess . Reloads from Wade Rush.Killed a many a deer with 2 3/4 buckshot. You got a deer killer.
