I went with Remington cause no gun in my safe goes unmodded. The aftermarket parts let me make it whatever I want to be and that brings some value to it in my eyes.

I have one in 308. Upgraded stock, trigger, 20moa base with a leupold. I love it. Personally I think Remington 700 has the smoothest actions compared to other guns in its price point. My opinion.
@lanningwk88
@lanningwk88 4 года назад
I have the same gun in .308 and it’s incredibly accurate and has tight groups with 150 grain fusion loads. Mine was manufactured in 2012 and while that period was also in the “junk QC” period of Remington (that we are still in today) I have to say that my fit and finish seem much better. I can’t scratch it easily with my fingernail and it’s definitely been abused and shows no signs of use. No seam line like this one. I’ve had other Remingtons (namely an 11-87) of this period that will rust when you look at them but my SPS doesn’t have even the slightest tinge of brown anywhere and it has been wet with a capital W. I just wonder if the QC has slipped even more so in the last 8 years or if I just got lucky. It’s a real shame that big green is struggling so much. Just read they’re filing for their second bankruptcy in just the last few years. I think you guys are exactly right that for this price range in today’s market, there are better options. Super informative video for any perspective buyers and as always, quality content that is current and necessary.

I've just bought a Remington 700 because it's one of the few affordable lefty rifles available on the market down here in Canada. If I had all the money I'd have bought a Tikka T3X Varmint stainless with detachable mag for 50% more money. But I like it anyways, it's a project gun, I gonna make many mods and it's gonna be fun. A little longer path to 1/2 moa zone, but at the end of day cheaper than that T3X. On the othe hand Rem700 has 3 1/4" longer barrel

I have a remington sendero in 7mm Rem mag, 26" fluted barrel and it's the most accurate stock rifle I've ever owned. But she's a heavy girl. I got the 700 SPS BECAUSE it's made of plastic, it's light(er), shoots great, doesn't recoil nearly like you think it would, and I just don't have to worry about getting it wet, muddy, scratched... It's a great rifle, I love it, my wife loves it and in the end, it's a remington 700 so I can mod this thing for days if I ever want to.

I have a Remington 700SPS Left Hand action in 243 Winchester with the varmint barrel. I have replaced the stock with a H S Precision Stock and also replaced the trigger with a new Tunney trigger. This rifle is a tack driver now. It is also great for long range as well.

I purchase remington’s and build a “semi custom”. HS Precision stock, pillar bedding, Timney triggers that are worked to remove any creep, and Cerakote all metal parts. My Creedmore (which started the same as the gun in the vid) after the work done, shoots a group at 100 yards that is incredible. 3 shoots with two overlapping holes. With a Vortex HSLR scope and Talley rings I usually end up spending around $1900. I’ve done several rifles like this including 7mm STW, 30-06, 25-06, 243, and 22-250. They all have shot better than expected. I’ve always toyed with the idea to buy just a 700 action and build from there, but always went back to what has worked for me. Buy a 700 SPS and do the listed work stated. I’ve brought these guns from Alaska all the way to Newfoundland and many places in between. If you are willing to put in a little time, you can put together a gun that shoots as well as some of the $3k plus customs.

My Remington 700 ADL varmint in .308 is the most accurate rifle I own. But that's with a new stock (Magpul hunter) and trigger (Timney). The original plastic trigger guard just split along the seam after 40 shots. And the original trigger was so heavy I could lift the gun by the trigger without it breaking.

I just recently picked up a Remington 700 SPS barrel in 30-06. The cartridge has a track record of killing anything in North America and even on Safari. I do not shoot past 400 yards as a rule so the 30-06 will have the energy for quick and humane shots. I am only interested in the action on this rifle and the 24" 5R barrel which will give me the velocity that I want. I knew I would be tossing the stock in favor of a nice solid piece and I am gong to put a nice optic on it that will give me clear bright vision but is rugged and dependable, it will probably cost just as much as the rifle even more, but if you want a real good optic, you pay some money. Then I am going on an Elk hunt.

These rifles are cheaper than $630. One sitting on the shelf locally for $500. I bought the varmint barrel version for $375 a few months back. Mine shoots 0.5”-0.75” at 100 yards. Most people are buying them to mod though. My $375 6.5 got a Trigger Tech, an H-S stock second hand, and quality bases and rings. After the stock swap, it’s like it won’t miss.

My first rifle I bought was a Remington 700 BDL in 7mm Rem mag, when I turned 18 back in 99. I paid less than $600 and $300 for a Leupold vx2 4-12x40 scope for it. With premium ammo, I could drive nails with it. Groups were one big ragged hole. Remington really took a big💩 I kick myself in the 🐎 for selling it! I call Remington the Craftsman tools of the gun world. People buy 700's based on brand recognition these days. The factory knows they are producing an inferior product. They use cheap material and cut corners and their QC is not all there. The older Remington 700's are excellent rifles and at one time set the standard for accuracy and quality!

My Ruger American 308 has a cheap stock also. Flimsy and hollow are the only way to describe it. The rifle is very accurate with the 180 grain winchester power points. I'm going to just stick with it for hunting hogs and deer in the thick stuff in east Texas where you are up in a climber until they step out from below. Had to camouflage paint, and wrap it all to deaden that hollow stock abunch. Aint nothing much past 60 yards in the forests, so I am dead on at 50. Couldn't be any happier for 600 bucks, scope is very clear and the reticle is a red dot that prevents reticle wash out on the black hogs and deer in low light conditions, which is critical. Semper Fi

Ruger has been innovating while Remington innovation stagnated in the 1970's. The Ruger American Predator has a threaded muzzle, comes with a scope rail, detachable mags, and is almost always more precise out of the box while being cheaper. Not a surprise that Remington is filing chapter 11.

Got a 700 SPS chambered in 243 on sale for around $450. It shot great, MOA at 100yds with Hornady American whitetail 100gr . But over all, not good. The stock complete piece of crap, the parkerized finish, crap. It would rust in a day in humid environment. The magazine would only hold 3 rounds. Supose to hold 4. So i got a full bedded aluminum hoge stock, Had it cericoted and had the magazine worked on. Over all spent another $600 to rectify the issues. Now i have a gun that i absolutely love. I would have to say, it now is much nicer than most $1000 hunting rifle.

@backfire 4 года назад
In that price range I’d go with a Ruger American. For what you’re hunting, the cartridge kind of depends on the range you’re going to hunt to. If you’ll be shooting up to 300 yards at elk then I’d lean toward something on the heavier side like 7mm rem mag. If you’re hunting at 50-100 yards or hunting mostly everything BUT elk at those longer ranges something like a 270 or 6.5 creedmoor would be great.
@jaredhaylock6945
@jaredhaylock6945 4 года назад
This is coming from a New Zealand hunter so I know it’s different but over here people say the maximum range for 270 is around 400yds for big game but if you know your gun it can go out to 500-600, not sure about bears or elk though. I own a ‘tikka T3x superlite strata’ in 7mm rem mag with a leupold VX3i and I love it. Very very comfortable shooting out to 600 yards and no issues going out further, it will kill all animals you want to hunt, I like to use 175gr but you just need to fire rounds through your gun and see what your gun likes. I would recommend going for a 7mm rem mag just because you can never have too much power especially when hunting big animals like elk but it really depends what shooting your doing most. Hope this helps

For all these guns you're showcasing with poor accuracy, try a barrel harmonic dampener? Such as Limbsaver Sharpshooter X-Ring. $10. Barrel harmoincs were tuneable on 8mm Mausers with screws along the stock under the barrel. Shooters would "tune" the barrel by turning the screws to apply different pressure creating nodes.

Won a 700 XCR in 300 WSM in 2008 in a gun club raffle, kept it because it was a caliber I didn't have. What a joke - had to replace the trigger to be able to shoot it accurately. Man...there is stuff about Remington 700s I don't like but so far at least "can't do better than 1.4 MOA" hasn't been a complaint. Anything mass produced is a crapshoot I guess but it hasn't been the case with the 4-5 I've had. After seeing a few torn apart though, looking at the thread to receiver fit, bolt lug contact etc...I see why there were no guarantees, let's say Hear the new RR coded ones made by new computer controlled machining are more square. That said haven't have a problem with one yet, besides you're paying a bit much for the build quality. Still given the price difference in Canada I'd take one over a Bergara.

Enjoyed all of your videos, but I believe you are biased against Remington 700s. There are much better models than the SPS, and at the same price as the SPS. How about the Remington 700 Long Range? Completely different firearm and can be found for less than $700. To characterize all Remington 700s as junk (or just ok) based on this model is just wrong. The Long Range models come with a better barrel and stock. I would like to see either a Long Range, SPS Tactical, SPS Varmint, or any of the higher quality 700s below $750 compared to this SPS to see if opinions change. I look forward to your future videos!

It’s a pandemic out there. Wish we could find the ideal models for each gun but we have to go with the best we can find sometimes. Thanks for the support on the channel.

Good video thanks Guys. Late on the thread i know , but just got my hands one of these but the 26” Varmint in .308. I am still awaiting license approval but after all the reviews i have read the stock is a must replace. Anyone on here that would be able to share the barrel diameter with me will be greatly appreciated.Thanks

you are full of crap mate , I've had a 270 win Remington 700 SPS for 10 years , and have taken shots from 10 yards out to 600 with very few miss . Its a excellent rifle that i wouldn't won't to be with out . And still sooner use than my Browning 308 .

have very same gun....accuracy is lacking...no factory ammo shot better than 2 inches...plastic stock is flimsy with a pressure point at its end pushing on barrel...accurigger sucks ....barrel throat is long and magazine is short so not able to handload anything longer than Sami spec to get bullet closer to lands....gun just disappointing out of the box....to fix stock filled foreend and action area with bedding compound ( difficult to get epoxy to stick to plastic) then free floated barrel..filled hollow but stock with silicone calk...now stock is rigid and quiet but heavier...trigger upon further inspection has same 2 screws as old ones for sear engagement and overtravel under some type of glue, dig it out and and able to get trigger down to 2 lbs....figured gun would now shoot...wrong...finally stumbled into a load I'd loaded for my HMR rifle that it didn't like..for some reason only known to the rifle gods the Remington loved it...its the only thing I found this gun will shoot a accurately 1/2 inch....130 eld match, 44gr. w760 powder...hornady case..cci lrp...loaded to col. 2.80

Had probably a dozen Remingtons in n last forty years. Their quality has surely gone down. A mistake they are paying for.

I personally know many guys who have taken an elk with a 6.5 Creedmoor and I would do so myself. Yes, you’re not going to perform the same as a 300 ultra, but with good shot placement within a reasonable range, they would/will be no issues.

I'll shoot my 700s all day but they're all before 2008 when Remington was bought out. Its owned by the same people that own chrysler essentially so yeah just poor quality in everything. Wont buy a modern Remington when there's much better guns such as Bergara and Tikka
